Located in Chef Charlie Palmer’s new Mystic Hotel in Union Square, The Burritt Room is a hidden gem offering handcrafted cocktails in an intimate film noir-inspired bar setting. The adjoining dining room, Burritt Tavern, has a lively atmosphere where Executive Chef Luke Knox turns out regionally inspired tavern fare. Large groups are welcome, while curtained booths accommodate smaller parties.
"What a find! Read about Burritt Room and tavern when it opened but didn't get the chance to visit until the Dine Around Town last Friday. It was perhaps my favorite Dine Around experience ever in the City! Everything clicked- a well planned and executed 3 course meal with interesting and reasonable wine pairing and terrific service! The fun vibe and great music and energy just topped off a 4 star evening. Highly recommend! I will be returning for sure."

"Second time at this restaurant and still love it. We enjoyed the dine about town menu and it was delicious. We had a special occassion and they gave us one of the booths with the curtains. High recommend it and it is still somewhat of a hidden gem. Keep up the good work Burritt!"

"Wow, what happened? Was there in March and had a meal to die for. This time, not so much. Lamb shank tasted burnt, oysters were not super fresh tasting, spicy shrimp was covered on mayonnaise and the shrimp were rubbery, AND, the service was horrible. I used to live this spot and have recommended it countless times. Not so much anymore."

"Before dining here, I've only had their cocktails which were delicious (oaxacan crusta and poquito picante) ! Our waiter was very considerate and awesome. We split a couple dishes (baby spring mix salad with chicken sausage, and their handcrafted pappardelle) which was plenty. Of course, we added a bottle of pinot noir (Decoy by Duckhorn). Food was very good and drinks even better. Good place to go grab a drink and snack at the bar."

"The ambiance was great on a Friday night to celebrate a birthday dinner out with my friend - live music, fun bar scene, nice lighting. The main dining room had several open tables when we came in, yet the hostess tried to seat us in a side room back by the kitchen. When I asked for a table in the main room near the music, I got a bit of attitude. I don't know why it was a problem - the restaurant was not busy. It set a negative vibe on the evening. The food was hit and miss - lobster risotto and salmon were pretty good, the steak was dry and over done and the salad dressing on the petite lettuces was way to peppery. I would not come back here for dinner again, but I might come back for drinks in the lounge again, though."

"I 've dined here a couple of times and I always had a great time. The salmon was very good, in fact my husband wanted to eat it all off from my plate!! I did miss the broccoli salad with bacon ( they've changed the menu since the last time ive been there) but no worries coz they added more good stuff. I love the ambience, the lighting and overall appeal of the restaurant."

"Was looking for a place with California cuisine to take out of town guests to. This place more than hit it. The bar scene was great as was the restaurant. The food was excellent and we loved the live jazz. I will definitely be recommending it!"

Review 13 for Burritt Room & Tavern - Mystic Hotel
"The food was great. No complaints there. Drinks and wine were also great. However, the service was lackluster and inattentive. I would expect better, especially for a larger group. Waiting 15 minutes after sitting down to have a server ask if we want drinks is a little much. And given that the restaurant was only half full on a Friday night, there was really no excuse."

"but improvement needed on quality of service & food. We came with a large(r) group, and all started out well....until our server forgot our charcuterie & cheese plate orders. Finally got those, but our entrees were overlooked. Med rare steak was beyond well done, a d sending it back took another 20 min. Finding our server after these errors was next to impossible. Disappointing bc ambiance & cocktails were beyond expectations."

Review 17 for Burritt Room & Tavern - Mystic Hotel
"We had a great dinner with another couple here on Thursday nite. Food was excellent as was the wine. Enjoyed our private booth with curtains. Kept the noise at bay. The Mac and cheese were the best I have ever had. The only downside is they do not serve any light beer. Disappoint for my husband. With "tavern" in your name it is reasonable to expect a bigger selection of beer."

"The food is tasty and well-prepared, but service on our visit was rushed. Appetizers arrived before everyone had their drinks, and then plates were removed before everyone was finished eating. Our waiter kept blatantly interrupting our conversation. A little more attention paid to timing at our table would have turned a good experience into a great one."

Review 19 for Burritt Room & Tavern - Mystic Hotel
"Was on a business trip and meet up with a co-worker for drinks and a steak dinner during the work week. I used Open Table to find a steak place in the Union Square area. And the description and pictures seemed to entice me. All I can say is the description and pictures don't even describe who fantastic both the bar and restaurant actually are. The bar has their specialty drinks that are really great as well as a nice wine list. The food in the restaurant exceeded all expectations. And the service was exactly the right amount checking in to make sure we were doing good without being in your face and trying to kick you out for the next reservation. I will be back on my next trip into town."

"The menu was inventive and interesting. The food was marvelous--excellent, fresh ingredients--well prepared and presented. The service was excellent--timely, responsive, and cordial. The ambiance is comfortable, clean and sleek, and not fussy (yay!). The cocktails were fun and tasty. We're coming back! P.S. the bar scene looks like lots of fun with a 3 piece-jazz combo!"

Review 22 for Burritt Room & Tavern - Mystic Hotel
"Burrit room is definitely a top spot to go for the happy hour/ after work crowd. The dark lighting and upscale speakeasy decor, couple with its location (The hotel mystic is stuck right on Stockton before the mouth of the tunnel) really make this place seem like a secret gem that only the true San Franciscans know about.
Despite the awesome decor, I really only recommend this place for drinks. Their food was pretty bland and even their mac & cheese wasn't good. My entree was the Teres Major with collard greens. The beef was pretty good and tender but the greens had no flavor at all. They were literally just wet leaves.
I can't stress enought how good the cocktails are. I recommend the hanky panky for any Gin lovers out there."

Review 24 for Burritt Room & Tavern - Mystic Hotel
"The food was delicious but the service was terrible. We were greeted by an unfriendly hostess. When I mentioned that it was my mothers birthday and we would like a candle in her dessert at the end of the meal, the hostess replied 'take that up with your server'. Our drink order took 20 minutes to arrive and even though we asked the waiter to give us time to enjoy our cocktails, our first course came out minutes after the drinks. The waiter never reappeared unt the end of the meal and then asked people to hand plates across the table to clear. Our dessert order was confused and my wife revived green tea instead mint tea. At the end if the meal, the waiter gave us some one else's check! It was really too bad because the food was great."

"We enjoyed our evening at Burritt Room! The poutin fries, oysters, cowgirl creamery plate, and beet small plate were all amazing! Lovely wine list with a wide price point. Upon leaving we noticed their Easter Brunch sign. We returned at noon the next day to enjoy a fabulous 2 course brunnch complete with bottomless mimosa and bloody mary bar ( with bacon and oyster accompaniment!!) We have already planned to stay at this boutique hotel and dine here during next visit! Thank you Burritt Room staff for a delicious and entertaining 24 hours!!"

"These guys take pride in their craft cocktails, and for good reason. They put a lot of care into each one, so if you're a cocktail fan this is worth a visit.
They also had just introduced a mushroom bread pudding to the menu, and my wife (a pastry chef) was a fan."

"Absolutely loved this place. Great ambiamce and energy. Loved the love music. . Food was amazing - do not miss the Brussels sprouts or sweetbreads!! Duckhorn Goldeneye Pinot was delicious. Only slight negative was the wait for a cocktail but we were there on a Friday night so it was busy. And as at so many bars - just acknowledge and make eye contact letting us know you (bartender) know we're there. That lets everyone know they'll be taken care of shortly. Such an easy thing to do to make what was overall an incredible experience even better!"

"Loved it! It was our first time at Burritt and would definitely go again. The bar is a bit overpriced, but wait for the jazz trio and it becomes worth it. Food in the restaurant is terrific. "I've enjoyed many spirited libations at Burritt Room many times before & have always had an enjoyable experience. This was my 4th time dining at Burritt Tavern. The service, the same as each time I've visited this restaurant, was wonderful. The waitstaff was so friendly & fun! The food was excellent, & it was a pleasure to dine at this restaurant with a friend who was having her first experience there. I would definitely recommend this to a friend & come back again."
