"I was looking forward to dining at mankas as its a local / new restaurant that could potentially be our Friday night dinner choice for romantic date nights or happy hour gathering with friends. Sadly the poor service overshadowed the decent food. The wait was horrible and the staff were not as attentive."

"First experience at this establishment & (pre) Mother's Day. The parking is roadside, so drive slow upon your approach as it is nestled at a crossroads ;0) We were greeted & immediately brought to our table. Set up was clean, crisp & accommodating for a party of 9 (6 adults/3 kids). Nice wine selection, local Riesling-Yum! And the bread baskets were never ending. Sweet Potato Fries: Very Sweet! Fried Calamari: Yes! Dont leave the peppercini's behind! Mac & Cheese with Maine Lobster: Very cheesy & tasty Ahi Tuna Tartare - Yes! Butter Lettuce Salad, Wedge Salad & Mankas House Salad w/ Shrimp - Yes! Filet Mignon (both sizes) - Yes! Ribeye - made to order (med rare) - No dessert - too full. staff were excellent & helpful (see Ricardo)."

"The service started out good but faultered after a 2 1/2 hour luncheon experience. Too many periods when we sat waiting, wondering where was the server. They lacked attention to water refills. The outdoor seating was inviting. This was our first dinning experience there but I am willing to return and give it another try."

"The scallops were excellent. Their wine list is very good. We had the ribeye, too. It was just ok for $35. The service was not great. If they want to charge $35 a plate I think there should be exceptional service."

"My husband and I went here for our 10 year anniversary. The outdoor area is very charming so we sat outside. The food was terrific! We ordered many appetizers and shared everything. The service was wonderful. Our server made a mistake in telling us that the port my husband ordered was a tawny port when it turned out to be a ruby port, so he offered us dessert on the house. It was very unexpected and a generous surprise. It's upscale but not ridiculously expensive. We loved it!"

"Scallops were tasty and very nicely done but a tad salty. Steak fillet was very tender and perfectly done. Great selection of local wines! Attentive service of a very busy night. Pricey menu but a great place for that special occasion. Will visit again."

"Dining room could get noise due to the low ceilings when all tables are full. It's best to either eat in the bar area and/or outdoors if the weather is warm."

"Great close-by restaurant. very good food, though the cost is much more than it should be for the area- this really is not napa valley and so $35 for an entree is too much..."

"Ahi tuna on black lentils was interesting, but not for a second time. Disappointed to learn that they are within close proximity to local organic farms , but don't offer healthy alternative to conventional/pesticide produce (there are over 2,200 organic farmers in Solano County)."

"We had a wonderful experience. I may be too stingy with four stars across the board. Four and one-half stars would be more accurate. We have eaten in this restaurant over the last thirty years. Its current ownership and menu is most definitely an improvement. I hope they do well. Food quality was excellent. I had a petite filet, and my wife ordered scallops. Both dishes were superb."

"Not that impressed. For a time we were the only customers and could barely have a conversation without being interrupted by the wait staff. I'm guessing they were bored. We had salads and a Steakhouse burger. My salad was good my friend didn't care for hers and the burger was completely flavorless"

"Great food and excellent service. Our waiter was extremely well prepared and knowledgable. The food was very good. If anything I wish they would have separated the meat of my lobster tail from the shell, as I was afraid I was gonna fling some of it while doing it myself. I'm not a drinker but my wife said the petite sirah was an excellent pairing with her fillet and crab cake. We tried both the red wine reduction glaze and the chimichurri sauce and both were quite good. Be carefull the chimichurri has quite a kick but complemented the meat very well. We went on valentines day at 6:30 pm and expected the worst(too packed, slow service and mediocre food), but got the exact opposite."

"You'd expect to find this restaurant in downtown San Francisco. Located in Suisun Valley (just east of Napa Valley) and surrounded by vineyards, on the short drive from the I-80 freeway you get the feel that you're in the middle of nowhere. Once inside, the atmosphere is cozy elegance. There's a main dining room and bar, also an outdoor patio and 2nd dining room down a short ramp (request the main room). The menu is classic great American food. I prefer the steaks, but on this Fat Tuesday they offered jambalaya with hurricane cocktails and other New Orleans treats. All were excellent. The list is extensive, with lots of local wines and bottles price north of $5k. Not a place to take kids."

"I surprised the wife for Valentine's Day, but for some reason the wait staff thought we were celebrating our honeymoon. Unfortunately, we weren't treated like it; our reservation was for 7:15pm & we didn't get our meals until 8:45pm.
We ordered the truffled Mac n' Cheese app, a petite filet, surf & turf special, & bottle of wine. It took an hour for the app to come out, during which time our server Doug apologized extensively for the wait. When it arrived it lacked flavor, especially salt. We then waited an additional 30 minutes for our actual meals which were also underwhelming. My lobster tail was overcooked (tough; hard to get out of the shell), poorly seasoned, & served sans butter. Filets were ok.
Then they messed up the check :"

"Mankas Steakhouse is a gem. I have watched it's progress since before it's renovation from an old saloon. The staff added beautiful personal touches that made Valentines Day very special there. Every staff member we passed on the way and out greeted us and wished us a Goidelic meal. I am proud this eatery is in my neighborhood and rivals any four star restaurant in SF or Napa. it is my favorite classy spot. Looking forward to my next dining experience at Mankas."

"went there thinking we would order 2 full meals, an appetizer, a couple drinks and maybe dessert. We ended up ordering 3 small plates all excellent (mac-n-cheese, tuna tar-tar, crab cakes and a salad. My GF had 1 drink and I had 2 (Hurricanes). Cheese cake for dessert(delicious). The best part was is we were well fed and entire meal was delicious and spent well under $100!!!!"

"It was hard to rate our meal at Mankas - parts were excellent and parts were below par. Overall, we enjoyed ourselves. The vibe is interesting and you get the feeling that there are a lot of locals that hang out here though you feel a little like you're not a member of the club. The apps were extremely good, but the entrees were mixed. The local wine selection was great. Oddly, our very attentive waiter dropped out of sight during the entree and we had to flag someone else down or we would still be there. There was a major snafu on timing of apps which threw off the staff a little. A quirky place that is at times excellent and at others, not so much."

"This restaurant is a real "find" for the Fairfield area. Though a little pricey, the food was worth it and presentation was very classy. They had some unusual menu items such as the elk which was delicious. We loved the fact that they offered many of the local wines and the one we tried was very good."

"Unfortunately the food does not taste as good as when the restuarant first opened. The ginger infused calamari did not even have have a hint of ginger, but was overpowered by salt and oil. I found myself wanting to drown the calamari in the dipping sauce to disguise the taste. When I first tried the calamari a year ago (when the original chef was still there) there was so much ginger flavor there was no need to even use the accompanying dipping sauce. The crab cakes also had a very fishy taste to them as if the crab had gone bad. The lobster bisque was tasty but the 4-5 tiny shrimp that were added to it almost made it laughable (yes I realize it is an appetizer) but more shrimp should be added. The food needs to be improved!"

"Two had filet Mignon; one mackerel. traditional accompaniments of potatoes, spinach, etc. Two had a glass of wine. Competent meals, although nothing extraordinary. Pricey at $250 with tip and two slices of cheesecake to go for the three of us. A nice setting and indoor environment, but less expensive meals of equal quality can be had many places."

"Service was good once they got to us. Bartender was waiting tables because they were so busy. We had reservations. Big groups walked in and wanted to be seated w/out reservations. They actually ran out of menus. They also ran out of ribs and sweet vermouth (bar) very early in the evening....what? Overall experience was good because we weren't in a hurry and we have a sense of humor. Yes, we definitely will go back. Probably try lunch next time."
