"I invited friends for lunch at Petit Jacqueline and they were very impressed. Every aspect of the experience was great. Lovely place with friendly staff and interesting menu. My husband and I go there frequently for dinner and always have been very pleased. Highly recommend!"

"My wife and I were trying to decide where to go to dinner when we stumbled upon Petite Jacqueline; We had heard about the James Beard award nomination and decided to book a table to see for ourselves what the buzz was about. We were warmly greeted upon entering by Michael and were quickly seated. The menu, wine list, and cocktails were all very well put together and showed depth. We had a bottle of the Chanteleuserie Cab Franc and Ashley had the olives into the Red Snapper special and I had the Moelle into the Pork Chop. I have to say that we were both truly floored by how well the food was prepared - perfectly cooked, seasoned, and absolutely delicious. Outstanding Food & Service Thank You for a memorable meal and we will see you soon."

"Petite Jacqueline transports you to a neighborhood bistro in Paris or a lovely French village. The food is superb. Do try the Chicken.... yes, we know - who orders chicken in a restaurant??? well, do try it here - it is most, full of flavour, melts in your mouth.... The prok chop is wonderful, and the fish.... ahhhh... last night we had local red fish, perfectly prepared.... We make a trip all the way from Portsmouth NH to eat here about once a month...."

"We love the food and the ability to have a nice lunch outside with our dog Tess. Homemade pea soup was great as well as the array of cheeses. Also staff was knowledgeable about gluten allergies and made my wife feel comfortable that they were making sure she had a gluten free meal."

"This was our second visit. Both times we had dinner, and each experience was outstanding in every way. The bouef bourguignon alone is worth the hour & 1/2 drive each way for us. After our first visit, we recommended PJ to friends who spend weeks in France every year. They were very pleasantly surprised with their lunch and said the would like to go back again for dinner."

"The food is terrific for real country French cuisine. Everything was perfectly cooked and the service was terrific. No long waits for any course. The only problem is that tables are stacked on top of one another so conversations can be heard and that is a little uncomfortable."

"Took a chance and booked this last minute through Open Table as I had read some good reviews on Petite Jacqueline before. We were not disappointed. Our server, Chloe, was the perfect waitress! She asked up front if we had symphony tickets (which we did), she was helpful with recommendations that were spot on, the food was delicious. She was attentive and genuinely caring. I would go back and request her for a server any day! Our only disappointment was that we didn't have enough time before the symphony to try their desserts but we will be back!"

"The food was great had the burger and fries, that is the cheapest meal on the menu. The menu was also in French so being able to read that would help when ordering."

"Fabulous spot in Portland's Art District. Excellent preparation! Thoroughly enjoyed my culinary experience. Seating is a bit illogical - a bit awkward at times, I felt like I was sitting with the couple next to us, but the food and attentive service make up for this minor imperfection."

"One of my absolute favorite spots in Portland. Great bistro atmosphere and faithful French cuisine. Oysters, salads, steak-frites and risotto were amazing. Highly recommended for a snappy casual romantic evening."

"We had a great meal at Petite Jacqueline. Everything we ate was delicious. Service was friendly, but a bit informal. Our only complaint was that the chairs are bit uncomfortable, and should be upgraded. But we'll definitely be back!"

"We really enjoyed the "French Bistro" food and atmosphere at Petite Jacqueline. We had difficulty choosing our dinner items as so much on the menu sounded interesting. Prix Fixe was superb as was the fish of the day!!! We chose well but there would have been other things we'd have enjoyed as well. Great little spot. We'd go back!"

"We were visiting from out of town, and Petite Jacqueline was recommended by a local Portland friend. It was excellent - great food starting with the fresh warm baguette, a nice wine list, and a warm lively ambiance. We'll definitely be going again when we're in Portland next."

"Very enjoyable evening at Petite Jacqueline during a recent weekend trip to Portland. My duck served with lentils and greens was delicious. My husband had the onion soup and Boeuf Bourguignon which he enjoyed very much. I began with the Monet's Muse cocktail which was light and refreshing. We also had the house red wine which was good value. The service was attentive and the waiter pleasant and cheerful. The noise level was fine- maybe Maine diners have less loud voices than other American diners we have experienced. We will return here next time we are in Portland. My only slight quibble was that the waiter didn't pronounce the French names of the dishes quite correctly but that is very minor and easily sorted."

"This was our first time at Petite Jacqueline, but it won't be our last. From the time we were welcomed by our lovely hostess, Sara, to our attentive server, Rebecca, our dining experience was outstanding. We started with the cheese fondue appetizer, which was delicious. The salads we had prior to our entrees were also quite excellent. For entrees, we enjoyed the steak frites, pork chops, and fish. All were prepared perfectly. Plan to save room for dessert. We had the creme brulee and chocolate pear. Scrumptious! If you're looking for a special place to dine in Portland with outstanding food and service, head straight to Petite Jacqueline."

"Taking a bite of my gnocchi, I was immediately impressed as well. Never before, (including when I was abroad in Italy) have I ever seen gnocchi that was so large! Size, in this case, didn't matter, since each piece ended up being more flavorful than the last. Nothing overpowering, just simple food and large! Size, in this case, didn't matter, since each piece ended up being more flavorful than the last. Nothing overpowering, just simple food and large taste. A perfect entree for the evening.
The cremé de la cremé of the evening, ironically, was the Chocolate Pot de Cremé, a perfect blend of rich and creamy, with a touch of sweet and salty from the small pinch of sea salt. It was, in a word, lovely."

"may not be located on the west bank of the Seine or in the old city in Quebec, but as good a french cafe vibe as you are likely to find in a city where French is not the native language. How many restaurants have a roasted bone marrow on the list of appetizers?"

"My daughter and I thought the food here was just fantastic. We liked the look of the restaurant, but like most places, the tables were very close together. We could hear every word of the conversation of the two women next to us; I realize that more tables mean more revenue but it did spoil the intimate nature of the restaurant.
The onion soup was great; the cheese on it just right ..my fish was tender and moist. Pot du or au chocolat ( I can never remember which it is!) was excellent.
We wished that the waitress had seemed a little more interested in us. She failed to ask if we wanted wine, if I wanted a second glass of wine, and if we wanted coffee after dessert. We felt she just wanted us to leave! Not very French!"

"I really wanted to love this place, and I'll say the food didn't let me down. The server though was awkward and forgot half our order. He didn't even attempt to make it up which was really too bad. I wasn't looking for anything big but a simple gesture or sincere apology works well. The food we did receive was great though overall."

"We went for a lunch during Restaurant Week this year. The service was pretty slow, especially for a lunch. The soups we had - Potato/Mushroom and Onion, were both good. We liked the onion particularly as it was thicker than most. The Croque Monsieur was nothing special. We were both hoping for a more interesting lunch."

"My mom and I loved it! The food was absolutely delicious and the atmosphere very livelY! There were only two tables free when we walked in at 1:30pm and one of those tables was ours as it was reserved in advance. Our waiter did a superior job - he was eloquent, kind and meticulous. What a wonderful way to spend the afternoon."

"Portland, Maine is a city filled with excellent restaurants. And yet, from the day it opened, Petite Jacqueline has been our favorite. The environment is fun and lively, the wait staff is attentive and knowledgable, and the food is excellent.
My one problem with it is the french onion soup and the steak frites are so good, I find myself unable to order almost anything else. I've never had a french onion soup as tasty. The steak is always perfectly cooked and the twice-fried fries, drizzled with a nice aioli, are crispy and wonderful. I did try the fluke once, and it was absolutely delicious, and yet I keep getting drawn back to that same meal every time. It's simply too good."

"We were seated right away with our reservation. The Prix Fixe offering is always a bargain considering the excellent preparation of all the food. There is always a Plat Du Jour, which on Saturdays, is a very nice crispy duck portion. Both the duck and chicken were crispy outside and velvety inside, quite filling with its side. A great spot for couples who want to have a fancy night out without being stuffy. The only thing that I would change is the amount of fries with the steak entree, a bit overwhelming."

"My entire meal was fantastic-I had the pre fixe after a few refreshing Pemaquid oysters.oyster I on Sunday (movie night-we watched Ratatouille, which always led me hungry). Salad was inventive and appetizing, then the chicken....which I which have dreams about, the skin was that crisp and the meat was that juicy. The pot de creme was delicious with just the right amount of salt, but too rich to finish. Well, I had just eaten a ridiculous meal. It was lovely and romantic, thank you for adding the roses on the table. The Syrah was excellent."

"Our Valentine's Day dinner was exceptional. On the Prix Fixe menu, we were offered options for all tastes (meat, fish and duck). The duck option was the specific reason I choose Petite Jacqueline for dinner, as duck is one of my husband's favorite dishes. We also loved our waiter who was able to accommodate our desire to have just a flavored specialty coffee for dessert, since we both were not eating sweets. We will definitely return to Petite Jacqueline."
