"This is our second time to go to this outstanding restaurant. They are one of the first in the area to utilize area farms for the freshest meats and produce. They have small plates and large plates which I personally love. We shared a small plate of mussels which were wonderful and then a lamb parpadalle dish that will knock off your socks. Their mac and cheese small dish is also outstanding. Another member of our party had a beef dish which they said was incredibly good. No room for desserts so can't tell you how they are."

"We were looking for ramps. I ordered the lamb with ramp puree. The dish was delivered with quail. I showed Matthew the meat off a quail leg and suggested he talk to the chef. Matthew returned to the table to inform me that the chef had served me lamb, not quail. I'm either dealing with 2 morons or I'm one. I stir through the dish and asked my wife, "Is this lamb?" I was assured, "No, that is poultry." It was quail. I know quail and I know lamb. The dish was delicious but too much pot smoking. If you have food allergies, be careful at this restaurant. The food is wonderful, but there may be too much pot smoking going on if you want what you order. Don't get me wrong, I go there every time I'm in Asheville and will go back next time."

"Not our first meal at The Market Place, and we continue to find the food consistently fresh, interesting and wonderfully prepared. . Yummy cockatils, too! Love the atmosphere and jazz. The pace of the service to place our dinner order could have been accelerated, but when we made our concerns known to the server, we enjoyed exceptional attention for the rest of the delightful evening."

"I was in Ashevile for Mother's Day weekend. I decided to go eat at The Market Place. I saw the online menu and that the prices were reasonable and they had a lot to chose from on the menu. Price was not an issue. The small portion served was the main issue. My husband had a tiny piece of fish with an even smaller portion of potato au-gratin. My daughter's Mac & cheese had ham & broccoli on it-the waitress didn't tell us that before hand. my daughter couldn't eat her food. We had to get my daughter something to eat on your way back from the restaurant. Not kid-friendly either.
I wouldn't recommend it to anyone."

"The food was outstanding. It has a similar concept to Table (locally sourced food vendors), but I thought the food at Market Place was better and the service much more friendly. Everyone MUST order the mac and cheese. It is absolutely the best I have ever had and everyone at the table agreed. We went on a Friday night and they had live music (solo musician), which we found enjoyable. The atmosphere is fairly urban and trendy, but I think any age of diner would be comfortable here. The menu isn't huge, but we found everything ordered to be amazing. I think I will go back for the mac and cheese alone."

"We found the Market Place on line and decided to give it a try for someplace different for us in downtown Asheville. There is a relatively new owner/chef who is very young, and he has done an excellent job. The decor is very chic and upscale, the food was outstanding, as was our server who made our experience all the more pleasurable. Our only criticism is that the menu is somewhat limited. However, we love that all of the food items are purchased locally. We'll be back!"

"We went to Marketplace for our 31st wedding anniversary. Started at the bar (of course) where we were greeted by a very friendly bartender who promptly told us the specials and delivered an extensive wine list. We had with our beer their home made pickle appetizer which I have to say was right tasty especially the bread and butter ones.
Hostess seated us promptly and Server came to us right after. The only negative was she forgot the bring the bread until after the meal arrived and she apologized for her mistake. Food was wonderfully prepared (I had pork chop wife had steak) and the sides quite tasty. Our server made sure our water did not make it down the glass half way and was pleasant in doing so. Overall a really good night."

"By which I mean too many ingredients and flavors. I ordered the lamb on arugula with mushrooms garlic tomatoes but very salty and difficult to separate the flavors. Spouse had roast quail which he really enjoyed. Large group came in while we were there which put the noise level up. We enjoyed the visit but not in a hurry to return."

"Me and my husband have been there 2 years ago and didn't like it, but reading high reviews I decided to give it another try – nothing changed. It isn't that the food is bad and just simply not good enough. There wasn't even one idem that was prepared the way it should be: the Vinaigrette dressing was out of balance, the cheese plate had not even one memorable cheese... I wouldn't go back nor recommend it to any body."

"We had a wonderful meal at The Market Place while visiting Asheville for the weekend. We loved that almost all items on the menu were marked as coming from within 100 miles of Asheville. The chef then used these ingredients in creative ways without sacrificing the essence of the seasonal flavors. Notable were a small plate of Brussels sprouts with lardons and a squash puree, as well as a house-made pate and an entree of spring pea risotto. Waitstaff was attentive and knowledgeable without being intrusive. The bartender created a fabulous drink for us when we asked about a particular liquor. This was a really memorable experience and we're glad we found the Market Place!"

"This was our first time at The Market Place. It is in a great place and even though we didn't sit on the patio, we will try it when the weather warms up. The food was fantastic and unique, which is tough to do in the competitive Asheville market. We especially loved the edamame and the pea risotto. And the service was blue ribbon. "Enjoyable time with friends. Food was beautifully presented and delicious. Many items are presented as small plates; the potions could have been larger. I chose several; one was the delicious potato gnocchi, but I went away hungry. Our server was knowledgeable and friendly. He could have been more attentive. Empty plates he sat in front of us too long, one diner never got the tea she requested, and we had to ask for additional bread. Overall it was a pleasant experience that had room for improvement."

"This restaurant has good food but did not allow substitutions (another vegetable for the starch which I don't eat due to diet restrictions).
The portions were small and with the minimal amount of meat and tiny dollop of vegetable, I left hungry.
The waiter seemed more concerned with the chef's feelings than advocating for the customer.
It all added up to an unpleasant experience."

"Four of us had dinner here and were very impressed. The food is fresh and interesting and surprisingly inexpensive. The wine list was appealing and the decor was made for Asheville: high quality, artistic craftsmanship and comfortable. It was so nice to find a place where you could carry on a conversation too. Our waiter was helpful and then disappeared only to reappear at the perfect times. Try the papardelle and the pear and blue cheese small plate. Both were wonderful."

"We've eaten at the Market Place now and then for 16 or 17 years. We like the modern menu and the innovative food offerings. I would say that, while it was quite good a decade or so ago, it is even better now. The bar at the entrance is attractive and quite the crowd pleaser.

"We had an absolutely incredible time at The Market Place. We we're visiting Asheville, NC and this restaurant came highly recommended. It did not disappoint. The food was off the charts delicious. The restaurant was beautifully decorated. They had a great wine list, and our server was wonderful. She knew the menu, she recommended wines based on our entree choices, she gave us a little history lesson on the restaurant and their "farm to table" approach to their menu. We loved her! If you are ever in Asheville, this place is a must for dinner! You will not regret it!"

"The Market Place offers exceptional main course dishes. Everyone at the table was impressed with the creative cuisine and rich combination of flavors.
The menu is divided by small and large plates. I started with the the delicious smoked potato gnocchi "small plate", but take note, the portion is minuscule for the price. You'll empty the dish after a few bites and long for more.
Service was acceptable, but there was a long lull between the first and second course. After waiting for sometime, we had to flag down a waiter to bring us an extra slice of bread.
Overall, the experience was good, and I look forward to a return trip."

"This was a first-time visit for our group, which was celebrating 3 birthdays. Overall, the food was inventive and tasty, though one person in our party disagreed. He had ordered the pork chop, but sent it back because it was tough and dry. The steak he chose as a replacement was cooked rare, instead of medium-rare, but he didn't want to complain again. Our server was enthusiastic and knowledgeable, and she kindly treated us to complimentary desserts for the birthday bunch. However, service was slower than we would have liked: drinks took a long time to arrive, as did bread after we had been seated, and even then our server forgot to pour olive oil for dipping. The glowing reviews may have led us to expect too much."
