Taj Boston, the landmark hotel at Arlington and Newbury streets overlooking the Public Garden, has long been a favorite spot to enjoy the gracious tradition of afternoon tea. The inviting experience includes a variety of menu options and tea selections for adults and children in two sittings on Saturdays and Sundays, at 1:30pm & 3:30pm. The French Room, the classically styled second floor tea room with expansive views of fashionable Newbury Street, has been refreshed to offer a refined, relaxed ambiance that's just right to savor tea and convivial conversation.
"I was expecting a lot and was rather disappointed with the Taj experience. I've heard it is the best tea experience in Boston, which is rather sad. No tablecloths, tea was not poured for us, and many of the canapes were dry and bland. I was also shocked by the accompanying cheese plate - for $28, literally 3 teeny tiny wedges of cheese, a handful of grapes, some crackers and some not-so-fresh bread. The desserts were tasty, but not tasty enough to make up for the other mediocre aspects of the service. I've been to many tea services across the world, and this was among the most disappointing."

"I went there with my friend. We ordered 2 sets of the "Taj Royals". The mini sandwiches were a bit below average, the pastries were excellent. The server was attentive, but he refused to let us share only 1 set of the "Taj Royals"... My friend and I were still a bit stuffed from lunch prior to getting afternoon tea at Taj, so we weren't pleased with the service since he didn't make any alternative arrangement or suggestions for us. We still left him a generous tip since the atmosphere in the Frenchroom was pleasant and the noise level was low enough to enjoy a lovely afternoon tea. I hope to book another reservation for myself along with 5 other friends, if the issue with the server could be addressed or "fix"."

"My daughter and I love to have tea at the Taj to celebrate our birthdays and entertain out of town guests. It's a nice way to spend quality time with people you love."

"My husband an I came here for our fourth wedding anniversary. Since it is the fruits and flowers anniversary we thought having high tea would be a fitting way to celebrate. It certainly was! The decor was ornate and lavish. The waitstaff were extremely courteous and friendly. The tea, sandwiches and desserts were divine. We even received complimentary champagne and additional sweets in honor of our anniversary (including a chocolate disc with the words "Happy Anniversary" printed in gold). To top it off, there was a violinist playing romantic classical music while everyone dined. What a wonderful treat! The only drawback was that the room felt stuffy and a bit too hot. Other than that, it was a luxurious afternoon!"

"The only glitch with our tea at the Taj was that they cancelled our initial reservation due to a booking error, but they did make good on free champagne to make up for it. A lovely afternoon spent with a friend."

"The bread was a bit crusty and the service was not great. We were seated by a large party which made the experience somewhat noisy, less secluded, and less romantic. This was a special romantic occasion for us so it was a bit disappointing and we did not feel that we were well tended to."

"My friends and I went to the Taj for a long awaited get-together and truly enjoyed ourselves. There was a violin player, excellent tea selections, and tasty food options. We will be back!"

"If afternoon tea is on your bucket list, then by all means, make a reservation. Other than that, it was just OK. Food was good but for the price it could have been much better, for a $30 cheese plate I was expecting amazing cheese and fruit and it was nothing more than average. And a boozy pot of tea for $50 was also not that great."

"Afternoon tea was excellent. Sandwiches very good although not 'finger' length but small squares - doesn't matter because they were very good. Only comment is that I would have preferred at least one scone with currents as in a traditional English Tea. Liked the cherry scones but not the gingerbread ones. Wonderful ambience and musical accompaniment - single violinist and another time harpist. Ask for table by window so you can see Newbury Street."
