"This restaurant was referred to me by a colleague. We had a table for six. The experience as a whole was good. The wine selection was excellent as well as the appetizers. We had good service and didn't have much of anything negative to say except that we had to ask for extra bread a few times, and the noise level in the restaurant was a little high. This is a good environment for groups or family, not one on one romantic time."

"I chose Union Kitchen to celebrate my birthday dinner with my family. The food was great, we were all pleased with our choices. The only thing I would say needed improvement was that the service was slightly lacking. A couple of times we ran out of water and had to look around for the waiter to refill. Seems like most restaurants have someone who just wanders around refilling glasses, but I did not notice anyone filling that need at U.K. that night. Need to provide more chips with the spinach artichoke dip! They were very accomodating by keeping a pie cooled in their frig until needed after our meal. There were actually 3 birthdays celebrated that night while we were there! We will definitely return again."

"All I have to say is 3 sea scallops in the entire meal for $25! Food was above average in taste and quality, but not for the money. There are better bags for your buck elsewhere in Houston."

"I don't think anyone will ever confuse this with fine dining, but I don't think that's what it aspires to be. It has an interesting, enticing menu that will keep you wanting to come back for new things you haven't tried, and some favorites that you love. The ambiance, however, is the real draw. It's just a very nice, relaxed, reasonably priced place with good food and good service that doesn't feel like a chain at all. The food doesn't quite measure up to the caliber of the menu, but it's pretty close. It's a good, easy standby when you feel like an easy, relaxing, good meal. Loved the goat cheese w/ lemon zest & the veggie pizza. Might splash a little more dressing on the salad. The calamari is a tad sub-par in quality. Frozen?"

"I held lunch here for my sister's bridal shower and it was wonderful. Since we'd just finished snacking at the painting class in the next center, we weren't overly hungry but the food selection looked so good we settled on getting a bunch of small plates and sharing. Everyone loved everything they had. The food was fresh, flavorful, the dishes with seafood in it weren't fishy. I would definitely come back and bring my friends."

"Our group of 5 really enjoyed our visit. We sat outside under the fans and Heidy provided excellent service. We got a great deal on some "clearance" wine, shared the Crab Napoleon and Lolo Hawaiian Tostada appetizers (beautiful and yummy), everyone loved their entrees and we also shared the Chocolate Tower (meh) and S'more Brownie a la mode (really good). We would definitely go back."

"Union Kitchen did not fail to deliver again from a food and ambience perspective. There were a group of 5 of us.. they gave us a table outdoors away from the live band. Just far enough that we could continue our conversation uninterrupted but yet enjoy the live musci.
The food as usual was spectacular especialy the small plates and main courses. The dessert was just OK - not their forte.
I had the the veal which was delicious especailly the risotto that it came with... yummy. The filet mignon which my partner had was cooked to perfection with a great sauce.
The only downside was that the waiter was not the most attentive waiter. He forgot butter for the bread and also the steak knives and unless asked the waters were never refilled."

"Very Good food and okay atmosphere. Seemed to be 2 sets of customers. Families with small kids and couples out for a nice time. Food was very well prepared and presented well. Wine costs were high. Arriving at 630, the restaurant quickly filled up and became 'energetic'. Multiple staffers waited on us and they didn't communicate well between them regarding our service. Free parking in strip center."

Their bread is very enjoyable, but was a tad stale on this visit. I'd enjoy more veggies on the side, just in case anyone is asking..hubby doesn't, so was kind to share his broccolini. Didn't have starters or dessert as we were in a storm and heading across town to a concert.
Hopefully, they'll have some big umbrellas handy in the future to help guests get under the awning where they were waiting to open the door - no covered entry. Bet I remember MY unbrella next time !"

"We have been here many times but something went wrong last Saturday. The service was VERY SLOW and they had to come out to tell us they had one more meal to prepare as they knew it was stretching patience for even the best customer. I was embarrassed as we had told our guests about how much we liked the restaurant. There use to be Saturday live music inside and there was none this Saturday. Also, did you all do away with the bread before the meal? Or am I remembering wrong that it was part of the experience?"

"The place was not as crowded as previously pointed out by other reviewers... we got a nice corner table which was perfect becos we had a kid in our group.
The food was excellent.. the steaks were melt in your mouth....yum... Service was good.. not the on par with the food... often.. we were left waiting for more water or more bread.. but it was eventually taken care of.
Overall it is a great find... would recommend anyone that want to try it out."

"We have eaten at Union Kitchen many times since its opening in the Memorial location. The experience has ranged from great to just OK. This last visit was in the latter category. The restaurant has become very popular and quite busy. I don't know if our waiter was new or just not very good. We had to ask for bread; water glasses were never refilled; we had to ask for dessert and coffee. Tables are close together and, even though we were there early in the evening, it was quite noisy. The crab stuffed avocado appetizer was good as was the stuffed shrimp and the salmon. We'd order the entrees again; maybe the appetizer. In general, the desserts are just OK. We have tried a number of them; they are good, but nothing to wite home about"

Once again, we were genuinely pleased at the great menu options, terrific food and prsentation, the value received and the well trained wait staff. "Have been there on busy nights before but this one was not a great experience. Although Ryan was very nice he really had a hard time taking care of all of his tables. We had to ask for bread 4 times before we got any. When our salada arrived they were served on plates that had just come out of the dishwasher and caused our salads to wilt. Our food was good but the pizza was a little burned on the bottom. We will go back but maybe not on a Saturday night."

"Nice, relaxed neighborhood spot with an extensive, enticing and interesting menu. I'll be back because it's easy, reasonably-priced and there are plenty of things on the menu I'd still like to try, but I'll probably never really rave about it. The service was remarkably prompt, responsive and friendly. The asparagus appetizer isn't as good as the same thing at Piatto's, and the lentil soup was a tad blah. The Portobello mushroom was exceptional. Not at all crowded on a rainy Wednesday evening."

"We live in the area and go out for dinner 2-3 times a week. Except for the grand opening of the restaurant we have generally had poor service. Seems like the wait staff is overwhelmed by the number of tables and duties that a busboy should be doing. Dinners are coming out hot, but then we are lucky if the waiter checks back again to inquire about dinner, drinks, etc. In all cases, it takes a long time to get the table cleared and by then, we just want to get our check and leave. Love the location because there are not many choices in the area except at city center. Parking here is great."

"The restaurant has a nice appearance but because they have televisions, it's more like a sports bar. The tables are very close together, and my husband was bumped by one of the waiters because there just isn't much room for servers to get around. The restaurant was very loud as was the music. Although the website states that the dress is business casual, there were many people there who were dressed very casual.
The food was good, but on the expensive side compared to other casual restaurants. Our chardonnay was served warm, which was not a good start. Fortunately, they brought out a chiller, but I had to put ice in my first glass.

"I've been here twice, both times the food was pretty good.
The second time was on a Sunday but it seemed like they were prepared for a Saturday night because there were a lot of tables packed in there like sardines. It seemed like the party next to us was sitting with us they were so close. This was a Sunday evening and they were not busy. Remove or move some of those tables and give us some space. Even on your busiest night it shouldn't be so tight between tables.
Because the food was decent we'll be back I am sure. My dad really liked his filet and it looked really good for the price too. I had the black drum special myself and it was ok. I think they went overboard on the butter and salt though... Not necessary."

"We have dined here quite a few times. However, this time, and the time before, we had similar experiences. Service was slow. It took forever to get bread brought to the table. The crab napoleon was great, as always. The bass was prepared well, however, by the time it made it to the table, it was barely lukewarm. There seems to be plenty of wait staff. Must be a shortage of kitchen staff. Not sure we will return. Too many other places that are better."

"We went for brunch - the food was mediocre. We were seated in the back with a large party, so that wasn't great because we were having a birthday celebration. The staff was attentive but they came across as not really wanting to be there. This is the third time that I have dined here and I have never been impressed. Because I live in the neighborhood, I might give them one more chance and try the hamburger, which is supposed to be very good. Overall, though, this place seems to be just average."

"After discovering Union Kitchen through some Travelzoo promotions, we have enjoyed both brunch (the steak benedict and lobster omelettes are outstanding!) and dinner, we returned on our own for Valentine's Day dinner. To be expected, the restaurant was packed! They sat us in the private dining room in the corner, which turned out to be the one freezing table in the restaurant. Even though they were sold out, they managed to find us another table in the main dining room. Thank you for that! We went on to have a wonderful, delicious meal. Can't recommend them enough!"

"I've visited the Memorial location a few times and have always had a good experience. Good food, service, and atmosphere. Most recent visit was on V-day. The mussels were delicious and the center cut ribeye order medium rare was cooked to perfection, and they provided a flower for all the ladies, nice touch. Only good things to say about this gem on Memorial so far. I hear the pizza is good, need to give that a try next time."
