The Food Market focuses on approachable, really good food, in a smartly designed industrial-modern space, featuring an open kitchen. Award-winning Chef Chad Gauss’ value-driven menu offers our guests a complete dining experience, by combining recognizable ingredients with unparalleled technique. The Food Market strives to provide real good service, in a comfortable environment, where our staff & diners can be themselves. We invite you to come relax, enjoy, and allow us to do what we do best, for you. Located on the Avenue in Hampden, and open every night, The Food Market serves brunch on Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 9am – 3pm. Dinner is served on Sunday – Thursday from 5pm – 11pm, and on Friday & Saturday from 5pm- 12am. Valet-Parking provided at no cost.

"Reservations are extremely difficult to get on a Saturday- we had to try numerous dates for a party of 6 and even had to pick a very early (5:45pm!!!) time slot, which we reserved four weeks in advance. Everyone agreed the food was excellent, as were the drinks. The cheese ball appetizer was delicious. I look forward to dining here again with a smaller group, but I wouldn't go here on a romantic date. Tables are close together and the noise bounces off the walls. There were a few children at other tables early in the evening, but the prices are a bit expensive and the ambience is "hard" for kids younger than middle-school. The bartender and our server were very friendly and attentive, without being disruptive."

"The food and service was very good. My rack of lamb was cooked perfectly. They were very flexible about changing vegetable sides for those of us whom asked. And someone else wanted his Bison cooked more and they were fine with that as well. I would recommend other friends to go. I didn't give it 5 stars because the restaurant was very loud. It was hard to hear the person sitting across from you."

"Found it on Urban Spoon and reserved on Open Table. Warmly greeted and seated immediately. Fried oysters, fried pickles great apps. Ordered steak fries extra rare and they got right. But the "star" of the evening was the Bronzini. Absolute perfection! Will definitely return each visit to Baltimore."

"This is the 5th time I have dined at the Food Market. The first 3 times it was flawless. The last time my dish was overcooked. No one is perfect. This time one of my pieces of tuna should not have been served. It was like gum."

"Second time coming here. Absolutely LOVE the food. But the service was terrible this time. Andrew, our server, seemed to be more interested in flirting with the hostess than taking care of his tables. He didn't help us out with descriptions, for food nor drinks, didn't explain anything on the menu, and left our drinks empty. Ask for a different server to make this experience fantastic."

"My wife and I are always looking for something new to go to and we had just been down the street at another local wine bar and noticed this one. The wine list was somewhat short but the food listing was very long but not to long. Food was good, drinks were good, and service was good. We went at 9:00 on a Saturday night and was very loud when we got there and slowly started to die down as the night went along. Will defiantly be trying again."

"We went with a group of six friends and all ordered different entrees from the menu. Everyone raved. The food was so fresh tasting, beautifully prepared and had an excellent presentation. The service was outstanding and our waiter was friendly and very helpful with making recommendations. The atmosphere was definitely casual, energetic and noisy, but that didn't bother us much. We all had a great time and are really looking forward to returning sometime soon."

"I loved the relaxed feel of this place. It had great service and the food was unbelievable. The amish soft pretzels with beer cheese fondue dip was so tasteful and a great appetizer. The crab cake with string beans and lobster mac and cheese was to die for and the best crab cake I've had in Maryland. My boyfriend had the steak with asparagus and fries was delicious and the sauce for the steak was out of bounds. To finish our relaxing and romantic evening we split the heathbar bread budding which was incredible, very soft and the perfect ending."

"Don't bother, the best thing was the foccacia. It was nice that they split the salad for us but they didn't bring plate for the shared entree and the chicken was extremely dry. The waiter, while nice, never asked us about the food, as we would have been clear about our disappointment. Lobster fingers might as well have just been cod, it was all bread."

"I had a wonderful dining experience the last time we ate at The Food Market. This time was less satisfying. I was disappointed that the portions were quite small--I ordered two appetizers--the salt and pepper tuna and the greek salad--both were extremely small and undistinguished. My husband ordered the beet salad and the scallop entree. The beet salad was tiny but flavorful. The large scallop entree was delicious."

"I was looking for a somewhat light but interesting meal and found it in the salt and pepper tuna! It was delicious! Our server was nice and not aggressively attentive. But the restaurant is a bit out of place for Hampden, and a tad overpriced. (Pints of craft beer for $9.50? Really? This isn't Federal Hill!)

"I was unimpressed. There was a lot of hype about The Food Market, and it took me a while to get a reservation. Other people have said that it is a noisy restaurant, and it was, but it didn't bother me too much, although I did find myself leaning in towards the ppl at my table. The food was just okay. I had the bronzini and it was not so flavorful. My husband had the bison steak, as did my friend, and they said it was "good," but nothing special. Glasses of wine are expensive. I don't have any intention of going back. Alchemy, 3 doors down, is better. I also was very surprised that there were only 1 bathroom (with one toilet and sink) for men and for women for the amount of seats in the restaurant. Always a line for both! :("

"This is my fourth time and I have every time left the place with a feeling of great discovery. The food is delicate, delicious and original. The service is plesasant without being obnoxious as"Hi my name is ,bla, bal bla." The cadence of the service is great,. we ordered our wine and out food but before we got them , we were served a dish of warm bread with a dip of nutty oil. I know it is not original but the taste was!.A very satisfying experience for my husband' birthday. It was a late dinner around 9:00 but we avoided the crowd and there were still a lot of people so the ambiance was a happy and busy one without to much noise! The customers areyoung and older together it is a good mix!"

"The waiter we had was very helpful. I didnt have to search for him when i needed something. They refilled my water a lot too without having to ask. The cream of crab soup was excellent. This is my favorite soup and they did not disappoint was flavorful with nice size chucks of crab meat in it. The ceaser salad was good as well. I did order lamb meatball kabobs. I think i shouldve went with something less adventurous as they werent my favorite. I also got a side of the lobster mac and cheese. Wasnt my favorite either. It wasnt as hot as i would have liked and the cheese / lobster combo just wasnt doing it for me. I did see other appealin dishes around me. The complimentary valet parking was a huge plus. I cant wait to try more of their food."

"The food is semi-tapas style. You can choose to get several things from the small menu or dine on the "big" menu. Scallops are amazing. For a mixed drink, try the Pimlico Playboy, their version of the mint julep."

"The food was delicious. We had the crab cake dinner, fresh fish, beet salad, the shrimp appetizer, and for dessert we split bread pudding. Every bite was excellent. Our only complaint is that it is still a bit noisy and that one glass of wine was $9.50."

"The cream of crab soup was excellent, the combined crab and shrimp club sandwich good. Unfortunately, it's a difficult place to have a conversation due to the extreme noise level. In addition, if you want to discuss private issues over a quiet meal, this is not the place to go. The seating conditions make it uncomfortable-especially if your table is in between two others which are very close in proximity.
I've been to The Food Market several times and try to arrive when they open so it isn't so crowded and noisey. But as the evening progresses, it becomes impossible to engage in a quiet conversation. Otherwise, the food is good, service is good, and everyone is friendly."

"Very crowded on a Tuesday night. Seated right away, but the noise level was over the top. Very difficult to hear the person next to you or even across the table. Food was very good and fun. Service was not great. It seemed our waiter forgot about us a number of times."

"Dined here on the recommendation of Open Table's "Hot Spots" list, and it did not disapoint! The main vibe here is fun; the decor is a neat combination of rustic and industrial, the service is friendly, efficient, and personal, and you can tell that folks are here to have a good time. The food was terrific - started with innovative cocktails and couldn't resist the spicy fried pickles and lobster fingers (decadent? yes!) The truffle fries that came with my steak frites were delicious and the steak itself was perfectly prepared, though in hindsight I'd probably choose something more "interesting" since you can get steak frites lots of places. The shrimp and grits entree my dining companion had was phenomenal. You should go."
