Mattar’s Bistro, located in northwestern New Jersey, has been serving customers since 1984. The menu at Mattar’s Bistro features modern American cuisine with a strong emphasis on fresh and local products. Using the finest ingredients, the elements of each dish at Mattar’s Bistro are made from scratch with the up most care and attention to detail. Guests will enjoy their meal in a casual contemporary atmosphere. Outdoor dining is available on the new heated veranda, elegantly wrapped around the building.
The bar at Mattar’s Bistro features a diverse selection of wines by the glass and over 50 beers. For those wishing to dine in the bar area Mattar’s Bistro has Happy Hour Monday through Friday from 3pm to 7pm and all day Sunday. Entertainment, featuring local talent, begins at 9PM every Friday and Saturday night.

"I chose Mattar's because it has a reputation of being one o the best reputations in the area. We took my parents out for their birthdays so there was a party of 6. Drink orders were taken quickly but it took another 20 minutes for the waitress to take our food orders. After an hour wait with nothing but bread, water and wine, the whole party was getting irritated. The waitress came over and asked, "they didn't bring your appetizers yet?" She appologized but how does a waitress not know that he table didn't get their food? Btw, our appetizers were sushi, oysters and salad so nothing too difficult or time consuming. Our food arrived 30 minutes later with appetizers and dinner coming at the same time. There wasn't enough room for all plates"

"The wine list was good with a substantial selection of $25 bottles. I had a glass though. Watched other diners not eat their fish special and had it wrapped so I didn't order it even though the waitress recommended it. Had the veal Marsala Milanese with mushrooms. Mashed potatoes and green beans were excellent. However the veal was paper thin and breaded in a hard oily coating. The demiglase sauce was excellent and not overly thickened. The fondue desert was a bargain at $8. If I had it again I would ask for all fruit. Overall a good dinner with on a cool evening outside with electric heaters."

"Normally Mattars is excellent, this time, food came out only warm, slower service,Saturday night 6pmm the waitress got my drink order wrong twice and our spinach tasted like "rubber". Must have been an off day as I will go back because that was the first "bad" experience I've had there."

"The restaurant has a great layout for dining and the bar area is not separated or enclosed away from the dining area. Our waiter was excellent, he was upbeat and accommodating to our requests. The food was great. We enjoyed the Cauliflower Fritters - AMAZING! and bruschetta which was very tasty. We also shared herb cheese fondue which was great but i wished i had more things to dip into the fondue. It came with apples, foccaia bread and vegetables but i wanted more than carrots and cucumber. The lump crab brulee was also great. They offer $25 bottle of wine list. Only negative was the DJ started blaring music making it hard to talk over dinner. Also DJ ventured into dining area where some weren't intersted in bar antics."

"Mattar's converted from a fine dining establishment to a bistro with great success. Service is prompt and attentive; the owner is on-site and actively interfacing with customers. The menu choices are wide, the wine choices numerous and fairly priced, and the overall experience very good. The crowd included a range from families, to couples and groups. The bar has entertainment and was pleasantly busy. Will definitely return."

"There are not many nicer places to go out in the area- so this place is a find in that regard.Had been here once before & had a very different experience. I think the main difference was the server, although they were busy with an event taking place downstairs (?) later that evening.First though I had a negative interaction with (I think it was the owner)- he was entirely unhelpful, even negative- really?I was unimpressed with the items we ordered- why would a cheese fondue be served with raw carrots? When I asked if we could get some brocolli or cauliflower to have with it we were told the kitchen had none.Was I unimpressed? Absolutely! Will I probably return? Yeah, probably, bit only for lack of other choices in the area"
