"Overall I think that Jax's is a great restuarant. Our server was awesome (sorry I can't remember her name!) and the place has fun atmosphere.
I'm a bit biased when it comes to seafood because I have spent a lot of time in Maryland,New England and the Deep South.So I'm a bit of a seafood snob.
The Calimari was overdone and the batter had no seasoning. My partner had the catfish. The fish itself was very high quality and nice and flaky; no "pond water" taste. However, the batter was essentially flavorless.
I had the beef tenderloin which was absolutely amazing. If somehow a stick of butter could have a baby with a cow it would taste like that tenderloin. I've had steaks all over Fort Collins and this was the best one by a long shot."

"If you were to see pictures of the food, you would be very surprised by the atmosphere of this restaurant. The food is delicious, the chowder was the best I have ever had. But the atmosphere just doesn't match the price of the food. For a $30-$40 fish plate, I would expect a quieter, more relaxed setting. Jax has paper tablecloths and crayons for coloring on it, as well as the walls. The music was surprisingly loud, more like a bar. Perhaps because of the music volume, all conversations were loud making it hard to talk at a table. Perhaps because my experience deviated significantly from my expectations, I would be hesitant to recommend this restaurant. It is NOT a romantic evening. The food is phenomenal, though IMHO VERY pricy."

"We were visiting from California during a blizzard. We were surprised to see the restaurant hopping on a Monday night. It was great that they had the all-night happy hour, so we got to try more dishes than we otherwise would have. Our server was well-prepared and helpful with regard to our dietary restrictions. He was attentive without being intrusive. Our favorite were shrimp and grits and key lime pie."

"It's not often that you're able to get great seafood in Colorado but Jax is an exception to the rule. We ordered a bowl of muscle steamers, the crab trio and blackened catfish: all three were excellent. The Old Town Fort Collins location is fun and energetic. Make sure you have a reservation on a weekend night: our table was waiting for us when we arrived and we enjoyed good service from Sam."

"I have dined at Jax many times, but was dissapointed in the newer presentation of the Colorado Fried Catfish...it was OK Good, but really had my taste buds set for the cream sauce with the fried Okra and Pickle....would not order this current presentation again. My date had the bass, thought it was way overcooked, but we still had a good time.

"Hands down, this is my husband and my favorite restaurant in downtown FoCo. Every time we have gone we have had a great experience with the drinks, food and service. It can get a bit pricey so we reserve this for special occasions which this one for our 5th wedding anniversary.
We started with the fried calamari which is anything but the traditional calamari you find in most restaurants. The pieces are mostly thick strips that have a spicy-sweet chili sauce that balances perfectly.
I must mention my cocktail which I have promptly forgotten the name of but had huckleberry vodka, ginger, lime and a housemade huckleberry ice cube. Every time I go to Jax I always get an infused vodka drink because they know what they are doing. So mu"

"Fun evening. The staff were wonderful they were very welcoming. Our hostess suggested sitting next to the So.wall so the noise was less. We are seniors on a budget so we ordered from the happy hour menu and made a meal of the appetizers. It was fun to try different dishes so we know what to order when we come back. The atmosphere was very laid back and we visited with other diners, even held a baby so the parents could eat. I love the food and will order the clam chowder, the fish sliders and hush puppies when we go back. We just had a great time, they even validated our parking."

"For a seafood restaurant I was very disappointed. I really enjoyed the calamari we had to start. Then the clam chowder came. I would have considered it more of a potato chowder as I may have had two bites with clam. I was really looking forward to the swordfish as it is one of my favorite fishes. It was rather dry and the worse that I have had. The mashed potatoes that it was served on top of were less than desirable. I think I had one or two bites. We took the dessert home and had one bite each and trashed it. It wasn't good enough for the waste of calories. Overall we were rather dissapointed especially when we recieved the bill after a disappointing meal."

"The menu is eclectic but the food is not memorable. The most flavorful items that our table of 4 ordered on the menu seemed to be the gumbo (great flavors)and the collard greens. The crab cakes, shrimp and grits and bread all had no flavor at all but when we put the gumbo over the shrimp and grits dish, it was excellent. "The food was excellent- well prepared and presented. I was certainly sated. My husband did not have the three courses that I had however and felt that the portions (nouvelle style)was a bit skimpy....
We loved the potato chips- wow!! the clam chowder was excellent, swordfish moist and tasty, husband's tuna was beautifully rare.
Our service was outstanding- Alexis was the main server- but everyone who came to our table was personable and attentive.

"The menu is very limited for a "fish house." I would have liked more choices in regard to the sauces the fish is prepared with. Some of the choices just turned me off so I ended up getting the crawfish pasta, which was delicious, but not what I had in mind when visiting a fish house. "The service was perfect and the food is unbelievable! we especially enjoyed the oysters shooters and calamari. There is beautiful metal art around the resturant. The ONLY negative experience during our dinning was during the happy hour, 4-6 I believe, the self seating bar which is located in the middle of the restaurant becomes very crowed and customers that are waiting for a seat become vulture like waiting for seats at the bar and crowding seated customers. We had a booth across from the bar which we had reservations for and when the bar became busy for happy hour people here literally standing with their back sides touching our table. It was very uncomfortable. So we will eat here again very soon!! but request a seat away from the bar."

"There's not much memorable about our experience at JAX except for the amount of noise in the restaurant. We were warned about this by several couples before we went (and thought we should go to the one in Boulder instead of Fort Collins), but thought we'd try it anyway. The food was acceptable, but overpriced for what we received. Unfortunately the bar was out of what I wanted as a before dinner drink, and that disappointed. The waitress was almost too nice, or phoney...we couldn't tell for sure.
We probably won't be back."

"We had dinner there on Valentine's night. While our reservation was early at 4:45 the staff was ready and very cheerful. They didn't rush us even though this would be a busy night. The drinks were good and the food was even better! The service was outstanding and we greatly appreciated all she did to make our dinner special. We will definitely go there again. You have to try the spare ribs with creamy polenta even if the restaurant is called Jax Fish House!"

"It was a great spot for a belated Valentine's dinner. Our first time at Jax, food was great, the Jax Hill wine was tasty, staff was super helpful and attentive. My only complaint is that it is very noisy. We had a great time!!!"

"This restaurant is like sitting in someone's basement - dark and dreary. The clams tasted like chemicals, the sweet potatoes were rubbery, the greens were as bitter as could be. I was really looking forward to some good seafood but this place did not serve any."

"The food at Jax is great. He had gumbo and a crabcake sandwich (4 of 5 stars)with Imperial Stout and I had salmon served over black eyed pea cassoulet with duck sausage (5 of 5 stars) with Allmand Malbec. My dish was truly fantastic (though the salmon was unnecessary given the sausage and the amount of meat in the cassoulet). So - great food. However, the noise level and the crowded bar ruins the ambiance. We paid $73 for dinner for two (including tip) and for that kind of money, I don't want to eat in a noisy bar. To be fair, the waitress did say that this vibe is what the owners are going for."

"This particular Tuesday evening - at 5:30 - was a relatively quiet one at Jax, which was great for us since it can be quite noisy, even in early evening because of happy hour. The happy hour margarita was outstanding - very fresh tasting but not sweet. For appetizers we enjoyed the happy hour oysters and calamari. The short ribs entree (with bones removed) had a wonderful silky texture. The meat was very tasty and not your typically sticky sweet preparation. The shrimp were perfectly cooked and were served with their tasty heads still on, which is a rare treat in the USA. The cheesecake dessert was rich enough so that half of it went home, to be enjoyed the next day. Coffee was excellent. Service was attentive without being intrusive."

"Had oysters, calamari and lobster chowder for appetizers and all were excellent. A great deal if you eat during happy hour! All our cocktails were well made and at happy hour prices were easy on the wallet. Very nice wine list. My wife had a glass of Don & Sons Pinot Noir, which went well with her grouper and I had Jax's house white, which I enjoyed with my scallops (and I'm not much of a white wine drinker). Both dinners were excellent and my wife and I are very much looking forward to our next meal there!!"
