Leis Family Class Act Restaurant
The Leis Family Class Act Restaurant is our student run fine dining room at the University of Hawaii Maui College. Students enrolled in the Maui Culinary Academy are your chefs and servers under the leadership of their instructors. We serve a 4-course prix fixe menu priced at $33 per person on Wednesdays and Fridays with reservations available from 11:00am - 12:30pm. The globally influenced menu changes weekly. Be sure to call early for reservations as we are sometimes sold out weeks in advance. Menus can be viewed at www.mauiculinary.com and click on the Class Act Menu button. We look forward to serving you!

"This was our second visit to Leis and we enjoyed it thoroughly. Although we know staff is learning and not experienced, that is really not a problem for us because we know they are so committed to trying hard and doing a good job. We want them to have a good experience with us as happy customers, and we always show our appreciation.
Our only issue with this lovely dining room is that even with just four of us at the table, the acoustics (high ceiling?0 are such that it is rather hard to have a conversation. During our visit visit, our table was by a window, and we don't recall that much noise interference. But in the center of the room, even though other diners and staff are not noisy, we had to strain to listen to each other."

"Been here several times and really love it. Very creative food and well prepared. We are "foodies" and always enjoy whatever they prepare. The students are "learning" all aspects of service and are all polite, well spoken and "gently" supervised. Always enjoy it. Wish they were open evenings. Nice experience to see new and local products being used so creatively."

"This is a cooking school with students doing the cooking, serving, and reception on the order of the CIA at Hyde Park, NY but with a Maui vibe. The food is excellent. The service is professional. The view spectacular overlooking Kahului Harbor, the West Maui Mountains, and the North Shore of Maui. The students are at times a bit nervous but very willing to please. Remember, these are the future chefs, bakers, and owners of your favorite eatery. Help them learn. Whether you are just vacationing or Kamaina this is an experience to enjoy."

"Had a great meal. Servers were all well trained and very friendly. They should be proud of what they have accomplished. Having a son who had four years of culinary training at Paul Smith's College, I know how hard these students work. We have told several groups about this great place to dine, and look forward to eating there next time we are on the island."

"This Culinary Academy restaurant is superb. One of the best places on Maui for a truly gourmet lunch prepared and served by students who are more professional and enthusiastic than most of the restaurants on Maui!One of the few places on the island to sample authentic international cuisine.Extra dividend-it's BYOB so bring a good wine. Great overall value. Limited days so suggest checking website for hours and menu."

"Fantastic view out onto the Bay. For being located on a college campus, I was duly impressed with the ambiance. Our server was some shy but made up for with sincerity. There is a fixed price and menu. They are only open limited days, hours and times of the school year. So you have to hit it just right. Worth the effort to fit it into your schedule."

"It takes some effort to arrange for a reservation here but it is very worth it! They are available on Wed. & Fri. only and only during the school year and only for lunch. The menu varies from month to month and has different ethnic emphasis. The one thing that you can always count on is excellent food! Creative presentation and combinations. The view is over a beach & harbor area from the second floor. The service is by students in the culinary program at the college so is sometimes not totally professional but always eager to please and enthusiastic. A real plus for me is that you get to bring your own wine. They are happy to provide stemware and ice buckets and of course, open the wine for you."

"I attended lunch primarily because my son is a culinary student working in the facility. I've been in the hospitality industry for 35 years and have traveled and experienced many of the finest resturants. The service was average in a positive way - from my understanding they are all kitchen students; but I do believe by working the floor they will gain valuable experience of what it takes to fulfill a customers full exspectation (great concept). With regards to what came out of the kitchen I must say was very good on a scale of 1-5 I would give it a 3.75 - 4.00. The old Chez Paul resturant would have recieved 3.5 - 3.75. And to set a scale Le Cirque would be the 4.9 My complements to the students, chef and UHMCC"
