"I've been here twice and have dined in many restaurants in the Asheville area. I've got to say The Admiral has some of the most exciting unique cuisine I've ever had.
It's tough not to have a memorable experience here. It's a foodie's restaurant, and prices are quite reasonable considering the quality of the food."

"If you did not know where you were going, you most likely would not go into The Admiral. It is in a nondescript building in West Asheville and you enter by going thru the parking lot into a side door. Once inside, it becomes clear why devotees return here. It is a small, cozy restaurant that exudes a warm, rustic atmosphere. The best feature is the food. Much is locally grown or produced and the chef performs magic with it. The menu offers wide variety and the dishes are creative without being flamboyant. We make The Admiral a must whenever we visit Asheville."

"The food here is excellent, but the place turns into a nightclub sometime after 9 p.m. If you are still wrapping up dinner, the DJ is setting up. They are removing the interior tabes and chairs for the dance floor. This would be fine, but not as someone is finishing dinner. As such, unless you eat early, the ambience is awful for a romantic dinner."

"I have eaten at the Admiral since it first opened and it was hands down my favorite restaurant in Asheville. Let me give you my restaurant history- blackbird,chestnut,rezaz, corner kitchen, zambras, Vincenzo's, limones,marketplace, table, curate, laughing seed, bouchon, LAB, if its a new Top Chef restaurant i will be eating there ASAP! So yes I would consider myself a foodie! This last experience at the Admiral has gone downhill, I don't know if it has something to do with one of the owner/investors leaving and doin he's own thing with others or what. It was not up to par. I would not recommend the Admiral to my friends anymore but look forward to the two new restaurants soon to be opening."

"The Admiral is a favorite of mine! I took my mom and dad for Mothers Day and they too were very impressed, which is no small feat! I would recommend The Admiral to anyone, the prices range from 5-30 for food and the drinks are very reasonable. They include a few local beers on taps, drink specials, I recommend the manhattan and the dark and stormy, but have the full bar behind them as well. The wait staff is amazing, they are always ready with everything your table could need, but never hover and bother. If you want great regional gourmet food at a fair price, come to The Admiral!"

"So good I wanted to renounce all my worldly possessions and live the life of a ascetic monk in the himalayas or the andes (not sure which). Sopping up the broth from the mussels with bread will probably be remembered as the highlight of my 20's. I want to wear a tuxedo made out of the friend quail for my wedding.
The server was friendly and accommodating without being obtrusive. I want to adopt him, but I'm a single guy I think he's a few years older than me and I don't even think that sort of thing is even allowed under current adoption laws, so we have a lot of stuff working against us in that regard, and maybe we'd be better off just being regular friends."

"The Admiral is as good as it gets for food Not much in the way of decor or ambiance and the noise level is high but the food is the star, at a level most places never attain. We had a chilled soup, grouper, and scallops, all of which were superb. The real winner was a mussels in broth/stew that literally was the best thing either of us had eaten in memory- beyond description. The wine list was modest, especially by the glass, but more than acceptable. Overall, a night of great food."

"My wife and I have eaten at the Admiral on several occasions. Great food, awesome service, local. The only negative that we encountered on this last visit was that the portion sizes was quite small in comparison to what we have been used to. My wife has gluten sensitivity and they are excellent to work with in this regard. Lots of options available, great suggestions."

"As soon as I know I am going back to my home town ( (Asheville area) I make reservations at the Admiral. The food offerings are always amazing and always delicious - it is different - do not expect steak, potato and salad, well you can expect it, but it will have "flare"...This place is for the adventuresome foodie that is always looking for that different combination, that unusual take. OH - the mussels seem to always be on the menu, but I've never had them the same way twice,but they are always AMAZING. The scallops are also delicious... desserts - oh my !! One last thing - their specialty cocktails - fabulous - I had a prosecco/promegranate,lemon, mint... absolutely divine!! It's just great - find out for yourself... GO..."

"Overall we were disappointed based upon our previous dining experiences there. The menu had no small plate offerings as in the past. The salad was OK but nothing spectacular as we'd come to expect. We ordered the grouper plate and the scallop plate. Found both to be lacking in what we would have expected from the Admiral: "over the top" The black beans lacked flavor, and the drizzlings on the scallops were a disappointment and only 4 scallops? Perhaps we should have opted for the pork tenderloin. We don't like to write off a restaurant on one disappointment, but we now hesitate on a revisit just the same. I overheard another patron praising the chef over what she had... so, it must not have seemed like an off night for one patron."

"Amazing food. Steaks and Pork Chops all around the table. Mussels and Steak Tartare for appetizers. Our group was eight, and that was pushing it size-wise. A little pricey, for a steak, but it was Top 3 of all time for me, perfect. We sat down 30 minutes after our reservation time, that I made 2 months in advance. But that was the only minor issue, which I blame on the size of our group, and the other people that lingered for 20 minutes after their check was paid. Service was perfect, nice pace and very non-intrusive, she apologized everytime for interupting our conversations, just the right balance. All this in a cider block building, that looks like (from the outside)that it used to be an auto repair shop. West Asheville Rocks!"

"I was expecting both outstanding service and food. In fact, our waitress was inattentive, often forgetting to come by and check on us. We felt ignored. The food was also less than we expected. The grouper was as bland as it could have possibly been. While we might give it another try, w have certainly lowered our expectations."

"My second time delighting in the unique ambiance of The Admiral, I thoroughly enjoyed the menu selection and my choice of the Carbonara that included duck and ramps. Ooh! In our party of four, three had not patronized prior. Each was pleased with their choice: Flat iron steak, Grouper and Pork chop. My husband would prefer larger portions. The desserts were sensational, literally. The dry, red wine I chose was very nice, as well. Our only disappointment was that the selection of dark local craft beers was very limited. Though the seatings are always filled, we were not made to feel rushed, at all! What a delectable treat to partake of in Asheville!!"

"We love The Admiral but this visit was a little sub par. The service was startlingly indifferent. We arrived early (took the only reservation we could get) and then promptly sat for at least 10 minutes before our server came to the table. The service didn't really improve much from there. Three of the four of us were very satisfied with our meal but my wife's Carbonara, well, I can make better at home. Hard to do this to a place we love so much but this visit only merits a B, maybe a B+."
