Open since October of 1990, The Dakota has been a pioneer in the culinary industry on the Northshore of Lake Pontchartrain. Their cuisine is influenced by the flavorful Creole cuisine, with Contemporary Louisiana. Other influences include the Southwest, California, and Asia using fresh local and seasonal ingredients. The carefully selected wines pay tribute to the well crafted wines of California and Oregon while offering a few of the traditional styles of Europe and Australia. Rich mahogany millwork and earth tone colors set the stage for a comfortably elegant dining experience. The Dakota continues to set the mark for what people look for when they dine – well crafted food, detail-oriented service, plush surroundings, and genuine hospitality.
"Dakota appears to have retrieved itself. Dinner last evening was bright and sparkling. The lobster carppaccio sang with the springtime flavors of tomato, basil, and the sea. Our filet mignon was perfectly done and presented. An excellent compliment to our Sine Qua Non grenache. Our favorite desert, coconut cake, topped it all off."

"We had a great meal at the Dakota and they recommended an excellent wine to go with the meal. Service was good but the waiter was a bit oversubscribed and we overheard some of his comments which were not appropiate for a 4/5 star restaurant."

"Food was amazing, my wife and I even exclaimed how we thought it better than Commander's Palace. A group next to us killed the ambiance as they played with their ringtones. The bar needed to be better stocked as they were unable to make two of their "signature" drinks. Get the Maine Lobster Gnocchi and Brie Soup. Their seafood mixed grill was shockingly good and the cedar plank grilling was divine."

"This was probably the best food I have ever eaten. Dakota is with out a doubt an amazing restaurant and I encourage people to try it. It is worth every penny. The service and food are great. Great place!"

"Lunch on a Thursday. Service was excellent! Very attentive wait staff, but subtle as well. Did not feel interrupted by the service. Crab soup appetizer was wonderful. Grilled fish of the day was good. Pork loin special was very good. Will go back to try more dishes."

"We've been eating there for 25 years! It is a very good, sometimes outstanding restaurant. It is, however, inconsistent. This time we had the 5 course lobster meal with wine pairing at about $95 per person. The dinner was okay but we thought the Sommelier's wine selections were not great. The bisque (with far too little lobster meat) was paired with a very sweet Madeira; it just didn't work. The aforementioned notwithstanding, we'll return, though I think we'll pick our own wines."

"Celebrated my wife's 65th Birthday! Wonderful entrees and great service. Great wine list, though pricey! Loved the incorporation of veggies in the entrees, rather than carbs! Just very delicious food!"

"Fool me once -- shame on you -- Fool me twice shame on me -- this is the second bad experience in succession -- at Dakota-- this time --waited 10 minutes for the Mater D -- to appear -- before we were seated -- drink order took at least 15 minutes to appear --- lamb chops were tough -- could only eat half --- veal very mediocre --- waitress very personable but severely over worked --- And this is supposed to be one of the top two North Shore venues -- ?????"

"We live on a tight fixed budget, and prices are on the high end. But not unexpectedly. The food is more than worth it. I've never ever tasted better food. The service is and always has been above exceptional. We can only afford to come here on special occasions, but when we do, we never forget each experience. This last time was the third time. It was for my wife's birthday. The time before (2012) was for Valentines, and the time before that, the first time, was a "just because" outing. That "just because" outing paid off exponentially. I am a police officer, and I have recommended this place to attorneys, judges, and other officers state and local. Dakota is by far our number one place to go out for a romantic date night."

"For two, it was $150. Food & drinks were VERY good, but a little pricey, drinks especially for the quantity you get. Waitress was awesome. Good atmosphere. Low noise level. I have been before and definitely would go back."

"File this under one of my favorite categories: I really wanted to like it but I didn't. There was nothing oustandingly bad or good. It wasn't mediocre. But I did think it was overpriced for two ($175 no wine and one cocktail). It's nice to have a fine dining restaurant on the Northshore. But don't punish your patrons for location = price. If I did go back again, I would. But it seems like all the "new" restaurants are copying each others' menus, and then tacking on a hefty price increase."
