Frank Fat's Restaurant located just a block away from the State Capitol at 806 L street in Downtown Sacramento, has proudly served the Sacramento Community since 1939. Frank Fat's takes pride in continuing to serve the finest Chinese cuisine from the four provinces of China (Peking, Szechuan, Canton, Shanghai) and Hong Kong in a superbly decorated surrounding with warm, friendly and cheerful service.
"This is my favourite Chinese restaurant in sacramento. The food is always good & the service is friendly. We never needed to ask for a waiter for extra water or refill for drinks. Someone always handled those matters before so it was so convenient. Now they have great set menus for really crazy low price with well known dishes that includes the famous banana creme pie! It's a must to try..."

"Heard a lot about Frank Fat's, they won national award. Food was good, not exceptional. Davy Wong in Stockton could show them how to do it. Prices about 30% above what should be charged. I traveled from Lodi, picked my son up at UC Davis then to Frank Fat's. will not do it again!"

"Like other recent reviewers it was the James Beard award that got me curios , then it was all the positive reviews . This is a great downtown dining expierance , from the service to the desert . Eating dinner here was like eating Chinese food for the first time . The flavors that was produced here will make you rethink the Chinese cuisine nothing is ordinary . And if you decide to get the banana cream pie for desert , it will be a continuation delicious and extraordinary flavors . You will be doing yourself a favor coming here !"

"Having just won the James Beard award, the restaurant lived up to its reputation for traditional Chinese cuisine. Had dinner with my new husband, a Japanese American who truly knows fine Chinese food and even he raved about the food. My son also wrote on Facebook: "Had a great time with my mom and her husband at Frank Fats restaurant! It is one of a handful of Chinese restaurants that doesn't overdo their food with heavy sauces and spices.""

"Fat's is always good but the special menu offered in recognition of winning the James Beard award is over the top. The steak, scallops, honey walnut prawns, and lots more topped off with that delicious banana cream pie. Heaven."

"After reading all the great reviews, my expectations may have been too high. Our server, Ken, was very good. The food looked very good when it came out but tasted kind of bland. I would still recommend it because the overall experience was a good one. Service, ambiance, soy sauce and the banana cream pie made all the difference. I will go again. I'll just try something different on menu next time!"

"We took some friends there who are moving from Sacramento in a week. They'd told us they'd never had great Chinses since living here. So my husband said "we've got to take you to Fats". It was fantastic as always. We've been about half a dozen times, and they never disappoint. Our friends were delighted. It was a great sendoff dinner, and we let them take all the leftovers (except for 1 piece of banana cream pie). The New York steak with grilled onions is the best steak I've ever had in a restaurant (hubby grills the best in the world). Mongolian Beef, honey-walnut prawns, fried rice, green beans; it was delicious! Thanks again - B&L"

"Six of us came to dinner. Each dish on fixed price menu was outstanding! Server was most attentive to serving and any additional needs. What more could you want for a memorable dining out evening!"

"We hadn't been to this Fat's for a long time. However, we weren't disappointed. The food was great, our servers were courteous and competent, and it was a lovely night out with friends."

"I go to Frank Fats every time I'm in Sacramento. I always order the gooey walnut shrimp and they didn't disappoint as usual. The potstickers were also delicious."

"Expected a lot more since this is supposed to be the most famous Chinese restaurant in Sacramento. Food was ok. The place was pretty empty, if you go don't get the booths in the back, they are near the kitchen and feel old and dated. Although I've never been, the food at PF Changs is probably better, its a lot more busy than this place."

"Been going here for a while and it is a very nice restaurant. I would say I only prefer booths just because last time we tried sitting in the table section, it was way too noisy, I couldn't even hear my date! So now every time I go I prefer to get a booth. Overall, the food is fantastic, the servers are pleasant, and the place is just great!"

"The original Frank Fat's has the best chinese cuisine in the Sacramento Valley. I have tried many Chinese restaurants in the area but nothing compares. Kung Pao is great- they will cater to your level of spice. In fact the staff will go out of their way to individualize any meal. Great chow mein and chow fun. Food always tastes fresh here. And don't forget the banana cream pie- no one can beat Fat's"

"We rediscovered an oldie which we found to be better than when we last dined there. Food was delicious and arrived hot except for one appetizer which was lukewarm (although still tasty). Service was prompt yet unobtrusive. Setting as always, is beautiful."

"Overall rating is only good due to the extreme saltiness of my dish (Singapore Curry Chicken). Other dishes were fine. When I expressed my concern, the waiter just asked if I'd ordered it before. No, not at their restaurant. Since then, others have told me that they also thought that the saltiness of the food was high. So...I won't return, since I don't like over salted food, but if you like salt - go for it!"

"We waited over half an hour for a table for three, even though we had a reservation. The room was noisy and chilly. Our server seemed distracted. The food was well-made, but not inventive in any way. I would not go back."

"Nothing special. Mediocre Chinese food. The pot stickers came out cold and obviously had been precooked or frozen before. Not promising if this is supposed to be the best Chinese restaurant in Sacramento!"

"We enjoyed our experience from the moment we entered until we departed with little black boxes of leftovers. Frank Fat's food is (to our Americanized-palates) utterly delicious. Beautiful presentation. Warm and welcoming staff. Comfortable seating for singles, families and romantic couples. We look forward to our next visit to Sacramento, because we'll certainly be eating at Frank Fat's again."

"The food here, as expected, as excellent. All except the desserts. Their specialty is banana cream pie, which I don't like. There are only 2 other dessert options - chocolate cream pie and ice cream. You'd think that with only 3 choices they would all be excellent. So I ordered the chocolate cream pie. What a disappointment! The filling was grainy and bland. The whipped cream was flavorless and the crust was hard, dry, and also flavorless - not at all flaky or tender. After such a stellar meal you'd think they'd put more effort into dessert."

"I hadn't been to Fat's I years. My mistake, as this place is excellent on all levels. I can see why it survives and other restaurants fail. Classy, but not stuffy decor. Friendly service, My steak was perfect and my wife's scallops with bacon were very flavorful."

"Frank Fat's has been consistent over the decades, since 1939. The service was also good on our Saturday night. You can't go wrong at Frank Fat's. If there is any drawback, it would be a bit too much oil used in some dishes. But overall, very good."

"Until our dinner on Saturday, it had been a few years since our last visit. We had forgotten how truly special this place is. Notable this evening, as always, were the service and outstanding signature dishes. We chose the Chinese New Year special dinner for two. Each course was exceptional, and, after all these years, Frank's style New York steak, honey walnut prawns, and the banana cream and chocolate cream pies remain second to none. We were the first seated for dinner this evening. When we left, the dining and bar areas were full to capacity; a testament to the enduring quality and unique dining experience of Frank Fat's flagship venue."

"I've always wanted to go to Frank Fat's and I finally did yesterday. The food, service, ambiance was nice and had a pleasant dinner with my girl friends. The lettuce cup was excellent, the mabo-tofu, eggplant dish, the special chowmein and the peking duck was delicious. The hot and sour soup could have been a little better but over all it was a wonderful experience. Getting one entree free plus a slice of their famous banana creme pie was an added bonus, thanks to my friend's birthday being in February! Will definitely be back!"
