After nearly 3 successful years in Midtown Manhattan, owner of Sofrito, Genaro "JR" Morales decided it was time to expand and begin his search for a new location. Shortly thereafter, Sazon was born. An exciting and unique addition to Manhattan's downtown scene, Sazon brings authentic Puerto Rican cuisine to the heart of Tribeca. This dual-level establishment encompasses all the vibrancy and delectability of its sister location but adds a downtown flavor all its own. Open for lunch, dinner and Sunday brunch: Sazon offers its patrons a variety of ways to experience Puerto Rican cuisine at its best. Buen Provecho

"I would definitely go back! The food was tasty and it was a nice atmosphere. I just think that they could utilize the space differently by creating partitions (adding booth seating on one side) rather than a big open space. My server was not the most attentive or friendly. Overall it I enjoyed it."

"Great service. I went here for an early Sunday dinner around 6PM, the noise was moderate at this time as there were not many people dining at this time. The service was great, our waiter took our orders when we wanted and brought our drinks, apps and entree out fairly quickly - though we did have to wait a bit for the check to arrive. The food was really great, this was my second time coming here and it was as good as it was the first time. I've also been here on a Thursday or Friday night and this place was packed! It's certainly a popular restaurant in this neighborhood with decent prices for the quality and amount of food you get. Best to come in groups and on the weekend. Gazpacho, Paella, pinuelos are great! Recommended!"

"We had some of the best Spanish food since our trips to PR. The Pernil is huge . The food is outstanding. The prices are decent (except for the drinks, they do not make the drinks big enough to charge $14.00). Other than that, we loved it and will definitely return.
Wepa!!!!"

"Took a co-worker there for lunch for her birthday and had a nice meal. We were seated quickly and the wait staff was very patient with the indecisive b'day girl! Good food and good drinks...nice sized portions. Would definitely go back again."

"My first visit but won't be my last! Only went with 2 other friends but based on the fun and noise level, this place was made for groups! Great red sangria ( I understand the white was too ) and the plates are HUGE!! And Delicious! I typically don't like sauces based on peppers but truly loved what I tried here. The mofongo was magnificent - as was the arroz con calamari - a must try!
If you want something other then the million Italian restaurants in NY, go to this fabulous place in Soho. Be advised - the music is loud but fun!"

"I had high hopes....but ended up getting disappointed. I ordered an appetizer and a salad The green plantains with shrimp was very dry and tasteless. I asked for both to be brought out as my entree but they were both brought out as appetizers. The drinks were also disappointing. I personally would not go back. The rest of my party felt the food was tasteless as well- i would not go back."

"Food was great. Our waiter was very nice and offer great suggestions. I have been to their sister property Sofrito's and they are amazing so I was glad the quality was the same."

"Restaurant has great food, similar to Sofrito (their parent company restaurant). However, my only issue was waiting. I made a reservation through open table for 9:15, and when I arrived, I still had to wait 30 minutes to be seated. The purpose of a reservation is to be seated upon arrival-- not being seated was annoying. Fortunately, the manager was apologetic and gave my boyfriend and I complimentary shots. They weren't amazing, but at least they acknowledged our frustrations."

"My husband and I had a late night dinner at Sazon. We were startled by how crowded Sazon was at about 11:45 pm! It is clearly a late night scene. The ambiance was festive, and many tables seemed to be celebrating birthdays (or at least liked having the waiters crowd around their table singing along to the Latinized version of "Happy Birthday"). Dinner was a mixed bag. My husband and I shared an avocado salad, which was enjoyable, albeit rather pedestrian. We also shared an order of Tostones Mandaditos with shrimp, which were kind of odd. There was a pinkish, slightly salty, but otherwise tasteless spread of "shrimp" in some kind of sauce on top of the slices of fried green plantain. However, the pernil that we ordered was delicious!"

"My boyfriend and I came to Sazon to celebrate Valentine's day. Their special valentines 3 course menu with complimentary champagne sangria was absolutely delicious and reasonably priced. The music was great so was our waiter. I see us coming back often especially since their regular menu has so many options it will take a few visits to get through it all. ;-)"
