Zin American Bistro
Zin American Bistro is an attempt to modernize and Americanize the traditional French Bistro concept. With Zin recently receiving 3 ½ stars and a review of “quite possibly the best food for the money in the Coachella Valley” from author Peter Osbaldeston’s Palm Springs Dining Bible, Chef Nicolas Klontz and wine director Mindy Reed have indeed raised the bar of casual fine dining in Palm Springs. Zin has over 200 wines on their list and has won the Wine Spectator Award of Excellence for 5 years. With choices from the Kobe Style Beef Burger ($16) and Mussels & Frites($18) to the Rabbit ($25) or a Prime Hanger Steak ($26) there is something for everyone. Be sure to save room for some house made desserts and a glass of port for a perfect finish. "Dinner was amazing! We had a great table on the patio. Nicole the hostess was, as always, exceptionally warm and inviting. Our server Susan was delightful and quite attentive. We were happy that the food was exceptional as the last meal was not quite up to their usual standards. The new kitchen team seems to have hit its stride. Our party ordered the Hanger steak, schnitzel, and Zin Burger and everybody was really pleased with the food. Service was prompt but not rushed, and we had a wonderful bottle of wine to accompany our meal. Can't wait to go back!"

"Saturday night on a holiday weekend is not the place to train staff). The server took our order, but the trainer returned 20 minutes later stating that the trainee never put the order in and apparently took a break. By this trainee not putting our order in put us in this restaurant for over two hours total. We had to wait for an additional 40 minutes to finally receive our dinner. The part that upsets me is that the manager or the wait staff never came over to say anything or offer anything in return. A simple (i'm sorry this happened) would have been fine, but it seems that the manager or owner is out of touch with there restaurant."

"They need to update their web site. I was disapointed that they no longer serve Ahi Tuna. Difficult choices when one is trying to watch what they eat. Overall the food was very good, though (just not figure friendly) and service was attentive."

"Zin American Bistro can be a busy spot during Palm Spring's high season and like many seasonal restaurants it can effect service. During off season it's much more laid back and enjoyable. A good table outside on the rail offers a great people watching spot which is a big part of PS dining. The food is good to excellent. Our service was outstanding. Our waiter continued to check with us even after he was moved to work behind the bar. There is not doubt we will return."

"Food was ordinary, some of it blazing hot, some of it cold. Server took forever to take drink orders and then wanted our orders. We had to ask if there were any specials. Server and busboy had such an attitude, it was unpleasant for us all. They couldn't have been more disconnected and bunched together with the hostess, obviously unhappy with things. Place was so noisy you couldn't talk because the bartender was busy playing with people at the bar making lots of noise.
A friend insisted that we go there- claimed it was just great- but said that the place had really gone downhill. It was pretty evident that others have the same opinion because there were quite a few empty tables on a Saturday night during a big weekend in Palm Springs."

"Zin is one of those restaurants you go back to each and every year because you are never disappointed and this year was no exception! Was surprised to see so many changes -- much more outdoor dining and a new bar since last year's visit. The food is always consistent and if you go, don't pass up their fried chicken and creamed spinach -- a signature dish and it's fantastic! It's also very reasonably priced for a very nice dining experience in Palm Springs."

"We have eaten at Zin every time we come to PS. This visit was a real disappointment. The service was less than adequate, the portions of salmon were the size of a hot dog and the chichen schnitzel had no taste along with the banana dessert. No one came to offer us pepper on our salad, nor could we get our server's attention long enough to ask for and salt or pepper for the table. Since we are staying at a resort, it was not an experience we will recommend again. In fact, not sure what happened to your menu? Not the Zin we knew before...shame."

"Was there for dinner before THE FOllIES. I hear the place is really busy later on each evening, but for us, we received a very nice welcome and a place of our choice. We enjoyed the filet of sole... perfectly prepared, and a dish of mussels, which per our choice, we tried it in a lemon grass sauce. YUM. Started off with a Pomegranite martini, made with FRESH fruit. A bit sweet, but delicious! Id go back. Then, walked right over to the follies without having to find more parking. Another plus!"

"We wanted a special dining experience to share with our visiting grown children. We had a mix of menu needs. At Zin we were semi outside dining without being concerned by passing people. Each of us had a delightful and pleasing choice including the prix fixe selection. Our waitperson was a delight, took good care of us and made us laugh. The food was well presented and the whole meal from hors dovers, wine, desert left us all feeling we made the best choice for our evening."

"I recently had a great experience at Zin. I feel like it is a hidden gem of downtown PS.
Our waiter was very knowledgeable and steered us to the best choices on the menu. We both had great salads (burrata & goat cheese w/ greens). I had a fantastic filet of beef and my partner had a rich rabbit dish. We both had a 1/2 bottle of wine (white & red). After desert we were very content. The bill was also remarkably a great value.
There was a big table next to us that was overly loud but they left soon after arriving so we had a peaceful dinner. Thanks Zin."

"What a huge disapointment! We had been to "Zin American" last year and liked it so much we thought it a good place for our friends visiting Palm Springs from out of town who wanted American cuisine. We turned up on time to a half-full restaurant but for 10 minutes, there weren't any menus for us. Why not? It then took 20 minutes to order a bottle of wine. The salmon dish was quite good but the chicken was almost uneatable. Service was generally poor. We will never return."

"Excellent food, professional and friendly staff, great setting. The vegetables, particularly beans, asparagus, etc., are always undercooked. Al dente means slightly firm to the tooth, not crunchy I have eaten here many times since they open and rarely are the vegetables edible."

"Having visited Zin as a tourist three times now for lunch and dinner and each time feeling complete satisfaction on every visit. I feel totally comfortable saying that this is one of the better high class restaurants in Palm Springs.
Each visit we used their $29. 3-course Prie fixe meal deal from the Palm Springs visitors site and always found the food to be superb, the service very professional, and the ambiance exquisite.
The owner runs a tight ship and this attention to detail is always evident.
You wont go wrong dinning at Zin!"

"After having a disappointing experience at Zin's when it opened years ago, I haven't been back until last night. Many friends rave about the food so we decided to give it a try with out of town guests. Nothing was horrible, mind you, but nothing was great, either. Two of our party had the chicken schnitzel which was thicker than it should have been, others had the rabbit, fried chicken and hamburger - all "just okay" and everyone commented on how salty everything was.
Our waitress was fabulous, the service was great but for the price, I would expect much better on the food."
