"Waiter was impatient, going thru motions and even dismissive ... didn't care that steak had come waaaay over cooked and guest hadn't eaten a morsel. Very homogeneous crowd including waiting and management staff and gave a sense of arrogant pomp that was false at best"

"I have dined at Nolen Kitchen several times and generally have a nice experience. Mother's Day was an exception. The service was slow and the food was below quality. The chicken and pasta dish tasted as though it had been on the stove all day. The steak was undercooked...we ordered medium but received medium rare. On the other hand, the salmon was delicious. Perhaps the wait staff and chef were just tired from a busy day."

"It would have been nice to have at least one special on Mother's Day or to somehow acknowledge the mom's with some small gesture. My wife always gets the pancakes and they are always big and delicious. This time though, she got 3 teeny cakes for her entree order (which oddly come with no sides so not sure what makes them the entree portion). They are $6.99. There is also a short stack available for $3.50. We are pretty certain that my wife received this "short stack" which on the menu is $3.50. When we asked what the difference is between short & entree order we were told they are all the same size but the short stack is 2 and the entree 3. Well that makes no sense because you could just buy 2 short stacks and get 4 pancakes."

"From beginning to end the dining experience was remarkable. The wait staff was extremely attentive, they were very knowledgable of the menu and specials. And the meal, a foodies dream! The chef actually came out to check on my guest and me, perhaps because I ordered his pick. This restaurant is a neighborhood gem but it could definitely thrieve in a big city (like New York or LA). Highly recommended."

"The pork belly Tacos were fantastic as an appetizer. Went on a Saturday night and the restaurant was very loud with some live music near the bar making it a difficult spot for conversation without having to shout a little. Service was fantastic. Overall the food was just okay."

"Excellent food and price shows they know it. Louder than expected. Popular and starters and sandwiches can keep cost down. Reservations recommended. Parking is difficult due to other popular resturants and bars in same locale. Trendy. As noted food is excellent in all categories. Service leisurely and we think that is normal; they want you to relax and enjoy. We had two rounds of half price cocktails, one appetizer, two dinnet entrees for $92."

"We met some friends the other night and we always love the food and this was no exception. The food was great. We did experience slow service. I believe the outdoor dining was taking our server's time way too much."

"Nolen's is one of our favorite restaurants and we are always looking for a reason to go! However we were disappointed this time when we found out they had changed the calamari app. We order it every time we go and rave about it to friends but found out they had recently changed the way they prepare it. It's now very bland and the amount you get is not worth the price. But the rest of the meal was very good and we will definitely be back soon."

"Food was great but there is never any parking available in the lot associated with the restaurant. Every time we go we always have to park far away. Also, I would recommend making a reservation no matter what night you are going. They frequently have a wait, even on week nights."

"After eating at Ilios Noche and Big View Diner, I wanted to try Nolen Kitchen. It did not disappoint. The French Omelet was delicious as were the dishes ordered by my husband and daughter. Hope to return again soon."

"Food was excellent. Staff was friendly and helpful, but service was slow and the restaurant not busy. One of our orders was served to another table and another order had to be reminded to the staff. However, overall we had a lovely time and would both recommend the restaurant and done there again."

"Way too loud . . to point of distraction/annoyance. Suggestion -- need window treatments overlooking Selwyn for both noise buffering and aesthetics. Won't go back for dinner. Food took a long time to come out and chicken was overdone."

"Off night for the restaurant and our dining experience. We had a reservation, they seated us a half hour later than the reservation. Food was delayed by a large order ahead of us, thus some level of frustration. Compensated by a coupon offered by the staff, being an ex-waiter I can understand one of those nights!"

"The restaurant was recently done over and looks trendy and fresh but they would have been better off spending time upgrading the kitchen. Whe we sat down for lunch, the restaurant was not half full. When we ordered, we noticed no one was eating. Lots of wait help scurrying around but no food coming out. A simple salad and wrap finally arrived about 35 minutes after ordering. Food was mediocre."

"We visited on Feb 23 and had a delightful meal and excellent service. Our waiter was super friendly and attentive but not intrusive. The 4 dips were a gem and we brought them home and snacked on them next day. We both got the steak frite...meat was tasty and tender, but a bit chewy for my palate. We have been before and will return again to dine under the lights and stars outside."

"We had an early Sunday dinner. The patio was full. Not very crowded inside. Nolen recently re-opened after a nicely done re-model. Well done and clearly a refreshing modern look. We weren't too hungry, our focus was more on cocktails; 2 gin and tonics and 2 basil martinis. Our server/bar tender prepared great drinks; kudos to her. Our food choices were simple; chciken souvlaki sandwich (always good). I tried the Pasta Piccata. My first time having this dish-it was OK, lemony, capers and generous amount of marinated chicken with the pasta. It has a nice flavor, but wasn't a wow. It was a challenge to finish. If I could score today's visit more precisely, I would give it 3 1/2 stars."

"Food was okay but not as good as other local options. Service was friendly but very slow---1 1/2 hours before the salads landed on the table. The meatloaf was recommended by the server as being superior but was fair at best. Great feel to the place but very average food and service."

"We went for brunch, my omelet was a little overdone. The atmosphere was ok but not great, they were starting a renovation the next day so I will be back to see how it looks. I was also told they will be changing the menu a bit."

"We typically enjoy Nolen Kitchen as one of the few Charlotte restaurants offering more upscale food at reasonable prices, but we were very disappointed on our last visit. The shrimp Cobb salad was extremely bland, and the vegetables and add ins were cut into tiny pieces and barely existent. The chicken dish was extremely overcooked. We will give it another try because we genuinely like the place and want to see it do well, but if we experience another underwhelming meal, it will be our last."

"The food was very good, everyone at the table was pleased with what they had ordered off the menu. Service was excellent for us, especially since it was a lunch date. We all decided that Nolen would be our once a month get away from the downtown area for lunch. Love the open table reservation!"

"We had a great meal at Nolen Kitchen. The Parppadelle Funghi was delicious as was the Chicken Picata. The service and ambiance was excellent. The experience was so good that I returned the next evening to celebrate my daughter's birthday. This restaurant is a real value for the level of food and service."

"My husband and I regularly eat at Nolen Kitchen and love it. The food is great, the service prompt and friendly. After eating, we like to sit and enjoy a glass of wine for a while. We never feel rushed to have to leave. Excellent dinner!"
