"My boyfriend and I came here for our anniversary. The ambiance was great! A great selection of beer and wine as well as cocktails. We had the bread, salads, short rib, gnocchi and chocolate parfait, and it was all delicious. We will definitely go back!"

"This place was just as good as we've been dreaming it would be for the last two years. We are two huge foodies and this place has been on our list. I took my boyfriend here for Sunday brunch around his birthday. We laughed when our waiter said "Unfortunately we only have brunch right now." We didn't know the difference--or care because the menu looked delicious!! We ordered The fresh spaghetti (egg, bacon and pecorino), hanger steak and eggs (w/ asparagus and bernaise), and the sunnyside up pizza (fontina, mozz, and arugula). Our server had the good idea to put our pizza in first as an 'appetizer' for us since our table was small (We thought that was amazing!). I want to go back and eat it every day!"

"Nothing Outstanding but worth a visit if you like trendy spots. The host staff was very unorganized. The service was not great at all and the waitress was not friendly. The food was brought all out at the same time and very quickly, it felt very, very rushed. Not to mention our food was not even hot. Makes me wonder if it was even made fresh when we ordered it or if it happened to be sitting there. I will definitely not go back for the food or service but I may go back for a drink. The restaurant vibe and atmosphere is cool and trendy."

"The food at Nellcote was good, but it was definitely not worth the price. All cocktails AND beers are $12. The rest of the menu is small plates priced as very reasonable entrees but a lot of money for the little food you get with each order. We enjoyed the decor, and our service as good -- not stellar, but good. We won't be back, though. In that neighborhood there are too many other choices to repeat this one."

"Went there with a friend Friday night. Had 5:30 reservations. Ate outside. Food ok. Service was annoying. Stopped by every 5 minutes asking if they could take a plate or drink away. Server took my friend's drink glass away without asking if she was done. Felt rushed the whole time. Not sure why they were rushing us since there were at least 6 tables outside. Not coming back."

"Asked for a quiet area a were seated right under the speaker in cramped area. Waiter kept knocking our purses off the chairs and moved them to the floor without asking.
Food slammed down and no wait staff return. Had to ask for wine and finally were able to get the shoe leather ribs returned.
Will not be back or recommend. Too many great restaurants in Chicago to waste my money or hearing at this place."

"Nellcote was one of the best dining experiences I have had in quite some time. The service was outstanding and the decor/ambiance is very nice. The menu is so unique and since they are small plates, you can try a number of the items. The server did a great job at pacing the meal so we could really enjoy each dish. The pastas were cooked to perfection and the mix of flavors were amazing. The drink menu is equally adventurous and has a unique blend. I loved the experience and will go back to try their weekend brunch."

"Loved the room itself, the food not so much. I ordered the spaghetti which I thought was mediocre and rather tasteless, but my friends liked their food more so maybe I ordered the wrong thing, although it had been recommended by our waitress. Who brought the check without asking if we wanted anything else. We shared a cheese danish with coffee and that was the best part of the meal."

"The place is in a cool location and decorated in a very modern way but the food is nothing to write home about. My husband ordered the bagel with creamcheese and lox and it was a mini bagel. I know this place is fancy but people still need to eat so that shouldn't mean reducing the entree sizes. Nothing stuck out to us and I wouldn't go back unless someone else made the reservation for a group of us."

"Menu is varied and very creative. Lots of great things to choose from. Our server, Lena, was awesome with a through knowledge of the menu and great suggestions. The ambiance is very nice and weather permitting, the outdoor seating is great. Only downside is the price. Our relatively small pizza was $19. Ouch."

"This was not my first time here. I've previously thoroughly enjoyed Nelcotte. I'm not sure if it's me or them but the menu options for brunch, especially on Mothers Day were disappointing. I am foodie - very rare I don't have a hard time making a choice because I want to try everything - so much looks good. This trip I seriously saw 1 choice that interested me. Our server did not talk to us about the food, anything - we were only a twosome and she was much more interested in the two tables adjacent with big parties. Felt like an invisible duo. We had 1 entree, the quiche. My daughter had a bagel, sausage and fingerling potatoes (3 sides) I had water she had coffee - and our bill was over $50.00 - really overpriced for the food."

"The pasta dishes were good but really meager. The meat dishes were weird & unappetizing. My guest had something with guan isle. We expected it to be crispy. It was mushy. Not appetizing for a fat based food. I had the short ribs. It was slivered, pounded bone, fat & gristle. Honestly, I would have complained but I had an out of town guest & I didn't want to embarrass her. This set me back some & it was a terrible disappointment. I've been here in the past & enjoupyed it very much. I gave it a big build up & it was a food tragedy. Was it the Monday Chef? The wines were the only big winners. And the waitress was lovely. Please share with the restaurant."

"Our first time at Nellcote. We are older--in our 70's so we were the oldest people in the restaurant. Probably better for a young crowd. The tapas format is nice. The food was well-prepared, original and came at a steady pace. The waitress, tho a little young and a little uncertain of herself, still did a pretty good job for us. I would recommend the restaurant but probably to a younger crowd."

"The service was friendly and knowledgeable, the decor was impressive, and the food was quite good (though the potato gnocchi was little salty). But the music was at an unbearable level. I realize that the concept is built around the mansion in Southern France where the Stones recorded "Exile on Main St.." But the Stones did their recording in the basement; I'll bet that they didn't blast themselves silly while enjoying great food and wine on the seaside deck. At the least, get a sound system that can handle whatever level that the music is going to be playing at. The Stones deserve better."

"I love this restaurant! The food is incredible and the service is great. It is well decorated and I love the ambience here. I've had the pizza here as well as the venison tartare and several other small plates and haven't found one thing I've disliked so far. I've also had brunch here a couple of times and love everything I've tried so far (steak and eggs, lobster hash, sunnyside up egg pizza, and quiche lorraine) I've only been for brunch a couple of times but tried everyone else's food that I went with as well as my own."

"This place is nice, open space, love the chandelier lights, the only thing put me off were the 2 large TV by the car, it ruined the classiness of the place. Food was excellend, I had the smoked trout salad and yoghurt. Mimosa was good too. I enjoyed it and would come back again."

"The food was good but the cocktails were weak and have not been updated since the prior year. I was constantly being interrupted by the wait staff while having a conversation at the table. I know they are busy but they can afford to wait 3 seconds for me to finish my sentence. More than anything, I was insulted by having to pay $16 for cheap Scotch that costs $9 everywhere else in the city."

"Disappointing! This place is trying too hard. The decor is cool but service and food are marginal. My entree arrived almost five minutes after my boyfriend's did. The food was ok but the portions were ridiculously small. He got a tiny piece of halibut and the smallest portion of noodles I have ever seen served in a restaurant with the simple pasta. The chestnut agnolotti was good but left me feeling hungry... Won't be going back!"

"Wonderful setting with a great sounding menu. Our server was nice & efficient in getting us fed & out in time to go to theatre.
Unfortunately, the food is not as good as it sounds,
The chestnut agnolotti was outstanding BUT the piazzas were mediocre. I enjoyed the venison tartare but the other people at the table did not. They had some interesting wine choices by the glass and a good cocktail menu. Would go by for drinks but not for food as we heard the agnolotti is going off the menu."

"The whole concept here is overdone, from the over-attentive server, the over the top decor, to the very confusing food choice concept. "This was our second time here, and it was disappointing on April 20 to have made the reservation in advance, and mentioned it was for my Birthday and I think we were seated with our friends at the worst table you had. We were on the balcony level behind the DJ in the corner near the server station. Along with making a reservation for my B-day we were with 2 out of town friends who dine in Chicago often and it was their anniversary. Too bad because I made the reservation based on our first visit and being seated on the main floor and had a good experience."

"I felt so bad for the bartender. She was the only one behind the bar on a Sunday brunch, therefore the drinks took an easy 10 minutes to get. I noticed the manger on the floor and wondered why he wouldn't get behind the bar and help her. My server was very nice and apologetic. It seemed as though understaffing behind the bar on Sundays seemed like a common occurance. I hope she made a mint that day. She deserved it, but until management decides to ACT like mangement and address some issues, I probably won't return."

"We went to celebrate a birthday and had a fabulous time. Every dish was delicious. My husband particularly liked the venison tartare and we all loved the shortribs.
