Tinto, an expression used to describe red wine served in pintxos bars throughout Northern Spain, is the ultimate expression of what a Basque wine bar should be. "We were out here for a long weekend and came to this restaurant for the restaurant week menu. All of the food was excellent but i think being able to pick 2 starters and 2 mains per person was too much food- but it was all excellent. loved the restaurant itself but we sat on the patio and the misters were turned off so it was too warm and the noise from the pool and other ground areas was very distracting. the dishes also all came at once- there server apologized but said the kitchen couldn't keep up w/ the orders- there was not room on our table to put all the plates. will come back but will sit inside."

"I never leave this restaurant hungry and always have a good experience with the wait staff. Food is imaginative and prepared in a healthy fashion. If you have a date and are worried about what you will talk about I guarantee you will have something to say about each interesting and tasty course."

"My 3 girlfriends and I decided t enjoy a night at Tinto during restaurant week. It couldn't have been a better experience for us! We went with the 3 course meal for $38 with the $15 wine pairing. With their being 4 of us, we were able to try almost everything on the menu. Our waiter Steven was very attentive and accommodating. The assistant servers were also wonderful, refilling water glasses and taking empty plates. This was a fun way to dine. We were able to discuss every dish we tried as we were eating. I could see where it would get noisy on the weekend, but we went mid-week and it was fine. The manager came by our table too. Only issue was a few of the dishes were a bit salty or got lost in too much ham or bacon. We recommend Tinto."

"Went during Restaurant Week (RW), so expected to have a choice of doing the RW prix fixe. But learned that there are RULES. Everyone in the party had to do the same thing; i.e., if one person the RW prix fixe everyone had to. Same with ordering a la carte or the regular $65-75 prix fixe. They said it was too hard for the kitchen to handle it any other way (huh?). Nonetheless, we had a terrific meal. We ordered a la carte. Since there were four of us we got to sample many dishes. I can't think of one I didn't like. The total bill was, to me, very reasonable for the quality & imagination of the dishes (about $50pp w/o drinks). One person in the party thought that was high for "what we got", he said. The rest of us disagreed."

"I have been to Tinto numerous times but this weekend the riff raff at the pool party next to the patio was overwhelming. Although we had a reservation for dinner, we had a glass of wine and left to another restaurant to enjoy a much more civilized surrounding with an excellent chef (Citron at the Viceroy). Our service person at Tinto understood the situation completely and was not surprised that staying there for dinner was not going to happen. I eat at upscale restaurants about 5 nights a week and this one is off my list for the time being."

"We dined at Tinto for the first time on 6/7. While the food was interesting and skillfully prepared, it was hampered by poorly paced service and a very noisy environment. Tinto serves tapas primarily, small plates to be shared and lingered over. We were told that dishes would be brought to the table as they were ready. Our cold dishes were delivered en masse and the hot ones arrived moments later. It would have been nicer if they brought a couple dishes at a time, gave us a chance to savor them, have a little break, and deliver a few more. We felt very rushed. The restaurant was busy and VERY noisy. We dined during Restaurant Week when prix fixe meals are discounted. Otherwise the meal would have been expensive and overpriced."

"went restaurant week to check the place out. We live clode, but have never gone. Glad we went, food was very good. All items served family style so younshare everything, but these wew tapas, small portions of everything which was great for tasting many different items. The gazpacho was over the top delicious and the scallops melted in your mouth. We opted for the white Sangria and it was very refreshing. Save room for dessert....WOW.
Hard to have a decent conversation as it is really noisy, but will definitely go again on a week night, with hopes of a less noisy experience.

"Second time at Tinto, both times for Restaurant Week. The $38 prix fixe and $15 wine pairing is a great way to sample small plates (some plates not so small!). Anything with dates included in the dish is great. However, this is a very meatcentric restaurant - vegetarians will be quite limited in their options, although the waiter accomodated the request to eliminate the ham from the salad."

"Historically the Coachella Valley has some kind of weird magic that seems to take perfectly great restaurant concepts that are world class in other locations and reduce them to pedestrian (meh) dining experiences.

"We had a large party of 10. The food was excellent. Everything is served tapas style. We were fortunate to go restaurant week, and we had a good deal and excellent options to choose from. Only complaint was the order was screwed up with one of the items, but no biggie. Only other comment is that the recommend 4 tapas per person. I was more than satisfied with three, when the fourth came out. And I can eat. Something to keep in mind."

"the first time we went to tinto, everything from food, to service, to ambience was excellent. this was our 5th time in just over a year and our opinion has been declining with each visit. while the presentation of each dish is beautiful, the portions continually get smaller. since we go there to eat and not to admire the decoration on each plate, we've been disappointed. example: the octopus has so little actual octopus that we could find less than a teaspoon full--but the sauce was great. there's a difference between "small plates" and plates with very little on them. bottom line, tinto is expensive and i'm not sure it's quite worth it."

"I was amazed to see such an advanced option in Palm Springs. We did the expanded tasting menu, since we had a large party of 7. The flavors were layed, exotic and creative. We had more choices than we ever expected. Not all were superstars, but we all had our favorites. Our waiter was very helpful in guiding our decisions, but the runners that brought the food were inexperienced, frenetic, and at times clumsy. Two in our party ended up with food dumped all over them. There was no offer to assist or any apology. Other than that, we all had an amazing experience. The Cuaduja for desert was positively revaltory. Jose Garces is doing really great things in Palm Springs."

"Have been to Tinto twice before. The first time, about a year ago, was exceptionally good. Returned a few months later and felt it had slipped a notch or so but was still a B+. This time, the food was of a much lower quality (except for the pork belly and the bomba rice which were both exceptional). The salt content was too high and the sauces rather bland. Would love to see them concentrate more on food quality and less on presentation. Felt to me like the emperor had no clothes. Unlikely to return for this quality at premium prices.
The server was knowledgable and attentive.
Have been to the Basque region many times, so I'm quite familiar with how wonderful this food can be."

"This review is for the second occasion at the restaurantand it was as good as the first. A very good restaurant anywhere, outstanding for the desert. Warm, dark interior in sharp contrast to Saguaro. Knowledgable staff, diverse tapas menu. Don't drink, but wine list looked good. Good place to return to."

"It may be unfair to be critical here since our biggest, and only criticism, is that the noise level was really high. Part of it was the music volume within the restaurant itself, but part of it was the crowds which had gathered in the hotel lobby and patio outside the restaurant, all there to enjoy and celebrate the Coachella Music Festival. The place was abuzz!!! I'm not sure we would go back. HOWEVER, the food was DELICIOUS!!! We loved the small plates/tapas-style approach. The servers were experts at describing the dishes and explaining the menu. I would love to eat off that menu again!"

"prior dinners at tinto were better. probably coachella music fest traffic in the hotel contributed to this. parking was impossible with shuttle buses and cabs lined up to go to music fest. we were finally allowed to park in the area reserved for hotel guests only. but on to the food-- several dishes overly salted. menu is interesting and eclectic. presentation beautiful. small plates sufficient for sharing/tasting. artichokes, paella & lamb chops very good. tho, this dining experience wasn't as good as in the past, we'll be back but not on a super busy nite."

"Excellent hip trendy Spanish Tapas dinner restaurant close to downtown Palm Springs at the Sag! We tried almost all the Vegetable dishes and loved them all including the Wine paired with the Madrone peppers! We also had the Breakfast at El Jefe at the Sag which was awesome in a great decor/ambience! Overall highly recommend for a memorable occasion/trip!"

"Best meal I've had in Palm Springs. Amazing food! Love the tapas dining experience. Portions were very generous. We had the "chef's special," which is five courses of the kitchen's choosing...each was absolutely yummy. Favorite was the mussel stew. And as a little side, the bowl of roasted/smoky almonds was perfection. Also loved the variety meat and cheese platters. I highly recommend dining here for a special occasion!"

"We were blown away by our meal here, and we didn't even have entire swaths of the menu. We had a few of the pintxos, and they were amazing, especially the pork belly and shortrib ones. Definitely get those. Also had a delectable arugula salad. Pretty much everything we ate was fantastic and a symphony in the mouth. Finished the meal with the donuts - also a pure delight."

"I have always enjoyed Spanish tapas, but have never had Basque food. We made reservations for dinner at Tinto on a Saturday. At the time, there was a huge pool party happening at the hotel, but it must have been scheduled to end by 6:30. Our waiter was excellent in describing how the menu worked - it was divided into six parts. We ordered eight different tapas between the two of us plus one dessert item to share. Everything was delicious! Yes, the plates are small, but that's what tapas are - you need to sample a few to enjoy more than one flavor. A great dining experience and great service."

"Love the restaurant and food, and have visited several times. I do have two peeves, however: 1. The restaurant was half full and they sat us at a tablke close to the kitchen/service area, so we asked to be moved. They did this but not graciously. 2. It's a small plates restaurant and the servers elaborately desribe EACH dish as it arrives at the table - this is excessive and interrupts onversation at the table, and is redundant once youy've been to the restaurant more than once."

"Excellent food and service. Small bites served at a slower pace than we are normally used to, but the quality of the food is well worth the wait. Perfect if you are looking for a dining experience! The outdoor dining area is very nice. The restaurant opens up into the center court of the eclectic Saguaro Hotel, which makes it seem as if you are on a quirky movie set. Can't wait to go back. The pork belly, diver scallops and bunuelos were to die for, although everything was delicious!"

"Have been to Tinto in Philly and loved it. Food here equally good once we received it. Not sure what happened the night we were there but first two tapas arrived in a timely manner. An hour went by before we had anything else. It was not a busy night. Adjacent table had problems also. The Manager did address the problem and made amends. I hope they get the problems worked out as food is very good but not sure what is happening in the kitchen. WE greatly appreciated his approach."
