"Four of us went to Paxia for the first time. At first glance it looks like your typical Mexican restaurant with the usual decor. But when you open the menu, you realized it is not. There are a lot of central Mexican dishes with imaginitive combinations of spices, salsas and peppers. We chose appetizers of warm manchego cheese with poblano peppers served with homemade tortillas and salmon ceviche layered on guacomole rosettes and garnished with a citrus salsa. Both were outstanding. Main courses of slow cooked pork loin melted in your mouth as did the Yucatan salmon cooked in a plantain leaf. The wine list is minimal but there are a number of interesting cocktails and beers to choose from. This restaurant is a gem and worth trying."

"For me, yes. Unusual, vibrant, tasty food. Looks like a high end Mexican restaurant in a Mexican big city. Beautifully presented, delicious food....forget the usual slathered burrito stuff. The salmon Yucatan was delightful, as was the salmon ceviche. Enjoyed the chicken mole as well. Wonderful place, and reasonably priced. Worth visiting again and again."

"My major complaint is no chiles en nogada or molé on the lunch menu! (I know they'll bring you molé if you ask.) The food is awesome, not at all your typical "Mexican food." In a city where you can get a perfectly good shredded beef burrito smothered green on almost every street corner, each one the same as the last, Paxia is a breath of fresh air. I could eat a whole plate of the guacamole all by myself. I love the owners' other restaurant, Los Carboncitos, too -- Distrito Federal street food with authenticity. Paxia is quieter, a little fancier, and off the beaten path so there's no enormous lunch rush to contend with."

"We have been coming here since they first opened. Paxia remains one of the best for Mexican fusion cuisine. This was the first time we have seen the service so poor. The restaurant had only 3 tables filled and yet it took 15minutes for our cocktails to be served after placing our drink order. We waited a long time for the table made guacamole show to arrive. Same with our entrees... It was as if the 4 of us were invisible. We had to keep reminding the staff we were waiting on everything from chips, drinks etc. None of us were in a hurry either it just took forever.
Of course, we brought a nought another couple who had never been so that was a disappointment."

"First time a week ago for lunch, again on Memorial Day for Lunch/Brunch. The food is the best and a great surprise as we didn't know what 'authentic Mexican food' was. The fajita burrito is very large, filling is delicious and I will order it again. My husband commented that the Huevos Rancheros was the best he had ever had. We will go back."

"I am a Chicago transplant, and grew up on regional Mexican cuisine prepared and sold by the families who came to Chicago and Indiana to work the steel mills.
After moving to Colorado, I have been hard pressed to find high quality Mexican cuisine that has not fallen victim to the green chili / Texan /New Mexican scourge that seems to be prevalent here in Denver. At Paxia - you don't have any "smothered" options.
Instead, we have a delightful ambiance and decor, with dishes that pay homage to regional Mexican cuisine - but are substantially updated and modern, and presented wonderfully.
Tableside guacamole preparation, desserts individually made to order. Flourless chocolate cake unmatched anywhere else!!"

"Our party of 10 enjoyed Paxia for the most part. The food was good and with a group that large, we almost had one of everything. No one was disappointed in the taste or flavors. The portions for the shared molcajetes and fajitas (the menu said they served 2) were kind of skimpy, especially if you are sharing with a hungry spouse. Regrettably the service was quite poor. We had to ask 4, 5, 6 times for things like utensils, plates (for appetizers and shared entrees), and refills on water/iced tea. The food actually got cold as we were waiting for something to eat it with and on. I appreciated our server's warm smile and accommodating personality but we desperately needed her to ACT on the requests and not just take them."

"Stumbled upon it and gave it a go. It was wonderful! Authentic mexican foor and yummy yummy! Save room for desert though!! I am not a desert person but gave it a whirl, the flourless chocolate cake with a dollup of ice cream on top was to die for! Came out warm out of the oven made to order and delicous!"

"Their menu listing has appetizers, entrées and drinks that you cannot find at any other restaurant in Metro Denver. The entrée that we had ("Molcajelte") was simply outstanding (we would definitely order this again - they offer three varieties of this dish and it is served in a Mexican mortar, lava rock vessel hot out of the oven!)
Ambience was colorful, well lit and pleasant with large heavy wood tables to enjoy your meal. Their corn tortillas are fresh made and they offer them to you continuously while your dining."

"This was my third time going to Paxia. I introduced a Russian friend to more authentic and gourmet Mexican food and she fell in love with the Chiles en Nogada, while I had the Tlacoyos, native to the Mexico City area which is completely different to my North Mexican home town. We also had the chips and different salsas along with Queso Fundido with Rajas and freshly made corn tortillas. For dessert, the flourless chocolate cake is decadent, although a bit small but good enough to share with one other person."

"I was introduced to Paxia through a group of friends via a lunch date. I was immediately impressed with the restaurant itself; clean and vibrant. Although the food and the staff was what put it over the top for me. I have been bragging about Paxia to friends and family for a while so for my brothers 45th birthday, this was my restraunt of choice. And now, it is their first choice as well."

"This was our second time dining there. Food is excellent, very authentic and some unique dishes. Margaritas are fantastic, especially the mango with jalapeño. Guac is made table side to your preference. Service the first time, on a crazy busy Saturday night, was really slow and spotty. This time we dined earlier and everything was great. Since the guacamole is made table side, the wait for it depends on how busy they are. Both times it showed up just minutes before meal. Staff need to communicate this to diners to let them know. We knew what to expect, having been before, but they really should tell people. Other than that, great food, great place!"

"Ate at Paxia for the first time and thought it was great! Excellent fresh Mexican food, which is difficult to find in Denver. So many Mexican places are SO average, wonder how they stay in business. They have great margaritas, home made chips/salsa/guac/beans/tortillas. Plus was easy to get a table and park at 7pm on Saturday night (not for long!). Thought the combination of very good Mexican food plus a non-stuffy/expensive atmosphere (like Tamayo) was great. Given the lack of any other good Mexican restaurants on the west side of Denver (lived in Berkeley and Wheat Ridge the last 20 years) and location in the next hip neighborhood of Sunnyside, this restaurant will do very, very well."

"I LOVED, LOVED, LOVED Paxia. The menu is amazingly delicious! I have tried many things and it's more of an Aztec type of Mexican cuisine. This is not your typical Tex-Mex that you find and love in Colorado. It is a very innovative but tasty dining experience. We got this pepper w/ ground beef, pine nuts and pomegranate seeds. It was so amazing. The table side guacamole is wonderful also but we got medium and it tasted so mild, it was like avocados and some lime. Get spicy. The jalapeno, cilantro margarita is to die for. I found the mango cilantro margarita to be too sweet for my liking. The atmosphere is quaint and romantic. The service was great. I WILL be back and am already having dreams about the delicious food here!!!"

"The only complaint I would have is the seating. It was so tight that our chairs kept getting bumped by passing waitstaff, as well as the guacamole cart. The food made up for it, though."

"The food was good. However, the waitress seemed frazzled and over extended. It took 15 minutes to get a drink from the bar. We ordered the table side guacamole. It took 25 minutes to get our appetizer and then he did not do it table side, but stood over in a corner and put it together. We then got our meals quite literally at the same time as our appetizer. Overall very disappointing."

"Our experience at Paxia was AMAZING. The food was insanely good, and VERY fresh. You can't complain about a place that makes the guacamole right in front of you, or the fact that you can watch them make the tortillas through the view window. The environment is very very nice. We had NO complaints!"

But the server took our feedback really well and actually spoke with the kitchen about it. I expect they just were just eager to keep people happy on their first 5280 restaurant week experience."

"Made a reservation for 7pm, table was not available when we arrived. We went to get a drink at the bar and waited about 15 minutes before we were even greeted. A table was finally available about 745pm. Once seated we asked for waters and ordered additional drinks for 4 people. We received two waters and drink order was incorrect, took another 10 minutes to get the correct drinks. Table side guacamole was great and the food was excellent, drinks were good when they were correct. Despite the terrible service and long wait times, I would go back again. Have been there before and have had great service. Perhaps just a extra busy night or not enough staff?"

"We went here for the 52.80 menu. While I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed my food, the timing between courses was terrible.
There was a long wait for drinks and an equally long wait before our first course. Then the first and second courses were served almost simultaneously. Then another long wait and our third and fourth courses came out at almost the same time as well.
Overall I might go back for the food, but definitely not on a busy night where this timing might impact the service again."

"It seemed as though they were short on wait staff. We waited 15 minutes to get our first drink, then when we reordered drinks she forgot mine. Finally I got my second marg as I got the bill. A bit late! Food was good, not great. If they don't get the service problem under control they are doomed to fail. Worth a try..."
