A visit to Indian Garden is a culinary voyage of discovery to the exotic tastes and textures of India and the warmth and hospitality of her people.
"I went to Indian Garden for Mother's day brunch as my usual Indian haunt (India House) is currently closed for renovation. The first sign of trouble was that they raised the price for the buffet by $6 because it was mother's day (they did throw in a glass of champagne or free mango lassi, but it didn't justify the price increase). The food was fair: a nice selection of vegetarian entrees, specifically a good paneer tikka, several lentil dishes, etc. The meat selection left a lot to be desired- dry chicken tikka, the standard goat curry, and a mediocre, fishy-tasting shrimp curry. Dessert was poor- rice pudding, a dry milk-based confection, and a carrot pudding. Service was atrocious (it took 15 mins to get the check). I would not return."

"Positives 1.) Good food 2.) Extensive menu, many choices 3.) Relatively reasonably priced, particularly for the Streeterville area
Negatives The service was terrible. We arrived and were ignored by two people at the reception desk. After finally being seated, we sat for over 20 minutes with no menus and no one coming by to take a drink order, or bring menus. When we finally were able to flag someone down, the service was not very friendly, attentive or helpful."

"We had a 730 reservation and were seated promptly. Lovely ambience and our request for window table was granted. We had a gluten free diner with us and they seemed to know what had gluten/wheat in where at other Indian restaurants around the country they say all Indian except naan is gluten free. The restaurant was busy with many big groups but our waiter was very unfriendly and didn't come to acknowledge that we had been waiting for over 45 mins to get our food, we ordered just mains and still a LONG wait with no "sorry for the wait". The food was delicious yet spicy!! I ordered the Korma, generally a lightly spiced curry but boy it had some kick!it also had bone in chicken which made it hard to enjoy as I found chicken bones everywhere."

"Atmosphere was very nice. Authentic Indian artifacts. Temperature was a little too warm and the construction site across the street was very unpleasant (especially with bright safety lights glaring through big plate glass windows in the restaurant). Maybe some shades or curtains would help until construction is finished.
Food was very good but still not as good as India House (which has been closed for renovation for months). Owner was very friendly and waiter (who was at Gaylord's for years) was very enjoyable. Once the order was taken, however, service was quite slow.
Overall an okay experience and we'll return (especially for the noon buffet which has a great reputation)."

"I was a little disappointed with the Indian Garden. The staff did not make any effort whatsoever to make you feel welcome. They probably thought we were just passing through. No time was given to look over the menu. When I questioned the server about the ingredients he looked at me as though I was speaking in a different language. Okay I am not from round here but I know my curry! The did infact prepare it how I wanted and the food was reasonably good. The drinks were pretty poor so stick to the bottled variety. The only time the attitude changed was when I asked if they did take out. They then relaised I actually live here and then things improved but by then it was too late. Will not be back."

"Food, service, ambiance, valet were all terrific, but skip any kind of martini, their liquor is seriously watered down, which just makes me not trust this establishment. I had a gin martini and my dining partner had a vodka - both tasted 1/2 strength. Not really acceptable for a downtown restaurant. The food was very good and I'll go back - just skip the drinks."

"Our group of 4 arrived 15 minutes before the kitchen closed. They were so nice & accommodating, they took our dinner order while we waited at the bar for our table. Top notch service !!!Oh and food was amazingly delicious!"

"We went to the buffet lunch at 2:00pm on Easter Sunday. The food was running out and they did not replinish the dishes. The Murg chicken that I love was just a pan fill of sauce (no chicken left) for the last hour. I have always had good food here but it was very salty this visit, I don't think I can recumbent the buffet, maybe if you arrive early?"

"We've been coming to Indian Garden for a number of years and it pleases every time. The ambiance is warm, inviting and very intimate with the curtained and cushioned seating areas, ideal for couples or groups. The food was delicious, portioned right and the staff were very responsive to our time needs and equally accomodating with our request to minimize oilyness as well as offer other dietary preferences. Would highly recommend to a new comer to Chicago, to Indian food and for the long time supporters, all around, a great eat!"
