"The food and service were fantastic. Anu, (maybe one of the owners?)was extremely helpful in picking the dishes that suited every person in our group. She was really nice, the service was excellent and the food was even better.
We used a Groupon for a first time visit to Indian Garden and will definitely go back.

Review 7 for The Indian Garden - Chicago

Overall Rating 4.0 out of 5 (Very Good)
"This is an inviting restaurant just east of Michigan Avenue. The atmosphere is relaxing and takes the diners away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. The menu is extensive, and I believe there is a dish for everyone from the neophyte to Indian food to people familiar with the cusine. The patrons reflected this variety, ranging from medical personnel from the local hospitals to tourists to Indian families. Prices are moderate, the service is attentive but unobtrusive, and the dishes generally are ala carte. Liquor is available and there is a good wine list. This was my first visit, although my wife had dined there before. We look forward to returning."

Review 8 for The Indian Garden - Chicago

Overall Rating 3.0 out of 5 (Good)
"Even though we had a reservation we ended up waiting more than half an hour to be seated. Also, when we got there we weren't on the list because they took only the opentable reservations made before 5 pm and they were supposed to close opentable after that, but never did so this caused a long delay. After complaining a few times we got seated at a very small table that couldn't even fit 2 plates. Eventually, the owner did stop by and moved us to a regular 2 persons table before our food got there, which made us much more comfortable. The food was good, except for the Murg Methi Chaman, which was too salty. This is my favorite Indian restaurant so I will go back, despite this frustrating experience. I will try going on a less busy night!"

Review 10 for The Indian Garden - Chicago

Overall Rating 2.0 out of 5 (Fair)
"Service was strange. Nobody really knew what they were doing. I felt like I was in the twilight zone. Nobody spoke English and if they did, they spoke extremely softly. It was really strange. Food was okay. I mean, it's a buffet. We went for restaurant week, but nobody knew what we were talking about. Bizarre. will never go back."

Review 11 for The Indian Garden - Chicago

Overall Rating 5.0 out of 5 (Outstanding)
"I came here for Restaurant Week '10 last night with my boyfriend (who is half Indian and very into his culture, and knows good food when he tastes it!). We LOVED it. Wow. For a restaurant week menu, we ate like kings. TONS of food. Not just appetizer/main/dessert, but we also had a rice dish AND naan to chose (we each got to pick our own) and after dessert they sent us home with full size mango lassi (it was like a smoothie). We each have, easily, left overs for 2 more meals.

And how much do we love a menu that is divided by Vegetarian/Non Vegetarian?? So much.

Our waitress was very nice and accommodating. We also got a couple visits from what looked like the manager and perhaps his wife. Also very nice people. I felt like I was eatin

Review 12 for The Indian Garden - Chicago

Overall Rating 1.0 out of 5 (Poor)
"We went to try the restaurant and were very disappointed at lunch. The service was horrible. We asked for more water several times before a busboy came unhappily over with a pitcher. The food was fair when ordered. They obviously want you to choose the buffet because then they don't have to do much in terms of service. They never asked whether we wanted dessert or coffee, but threw down the bill as they cleared the plates. We had heard great things about Indian Garden, but our recommendation is DON'T GO!!! There are other excellent Indian restaurants in Chicago. Go to anyone of them."

"I had a very enjoyable experience here. It was a Monday night and the place was empty, but the staff was attentive and food was well prepared. There are many more choices north of the city, but IG is a gem downtown. I will be back again."

Review 16 for The Indian Garden - Chicago

Overall Rating 3.0 out of 5 (Good)
"Although we had reservations, it took over a half an hour to be seated. We sat at the bar but could not get any drinks while waiting, although we asked several times--we were ignored. Other than that, the food was absolutely excellent. I would recommend going on a less busy day than a Saturday night, I have been to this restaurant several times before and never experienced service this bad."

Overall Rating 4.0 out of 5 (Very Good)
"The best of the Indian restaurants in the Streeterville / River North neighborhoods. Service is outstanding, the menu is extensive, and the ambiance is pleasing. With such a large variety of menu items, it is difficult to select just a few items. Do not be afraid to ask for help; the wait staff is knowledgeable and friendly."

Review 22 for The Indian Garden - Chicago

Overall Rating 2.0 out of 5 (Fair)
"At eight o'clock on a Sunday night the restaurant had the air of post battle fatigue. Following their no doubt busy Sunday buffet session staff seemed exhausted and in consequence the level of service left much to be desired. What's the point of having hot food delivered to the table when the dinner plate is stone cold? On requesting a replacement it arrived five minutes later and was also cold as was by this time most of the food.
Talking of the food, the mixed pakora single portion looked as if it would comfortably feed a family of four but unfortunately was so bland that it was difficult to identify which were which. The Murg Chilli Masala suffered the same fate - boring food, bored waiting staff. A return visit? no thanks.
