"It is getting better. I will continue to go there again and again until Dean's knows how to do it right. There is a great tendency to overcook fish. Happened again this time but not as bad as the previous time. Still edible. Ask for butter with bread because the concoction normally served is bizarre at best. The desserts are overly generous as are some of the main courses. Those who value quantity over quality will do well here. However, there are some good quality dishes that are well prepared. It all depends on your tastes. Service wonderful and we will return and hope for improved results from the kitchen."

"I wanted to celebrate my birthday with a great seafood dinner and had a great experience at Dean's. They have a wide variety of freshly caught fish and shellfish, many locally. The wait staff was very knowlegeable and helped my make some good choices. It is a good choice for casual dining. The menu selections are not overpriced, so this is a place to go for those who want good seafood, but don't want to break the bank. Dean's also have a very good wine and beer list. Dean's offers fried seafood, which seems the mainstay of many seafood restaurants, but they offer much more than that. Also good for those who don't like seafood."

"Calamari was so-so (chewy and greasy), Sea bass is much better at bone fish, the waitress was nice but.service was badly timed ..forgot to bring bread, we had to ask for water, another glass of wine, didn't know if any of the pinot noir's where from Sonoma County?? The sauteed vegetables and asparagus were good, so was the wine. The atmosphere seems nice for conversation and wine. Nice outdoor/patio area. First and last time going there."

"We went to Dean's for Mothers Day. It was sadly disappointing. The server, coming off of a vacation as was explained, was not as attentive as we would expect. Drinks went unfilled for periods, our order was mixed up upon delivery, and we had to call our server back as my father was not asked if he wanted to order a dessert item (he did).
Food was mediocre and we didn't feel was a value for the price. Although, we look to support the local guys, we probably won't be back."

"The food was delicious and prepared well. Justin his an excellent waiter. The fried seafood platter tastedd good according to one member in my group, but it did not look attractive. Fried too much, too dark and looked like it was just thrown on the plate. The french fries were very dark also."

"I took my wife and children here for Mother's Day. We arrived at 10am and was seated promptly. The staff was very nice and cordial. Although the initial line for omlettes and waffles was long. The line moved quickly. The items available were unlimited. I love seafood and they had a bounty of delicious dishes to choose from. I was truly impressed and the food was very good. My wife and children enjoyed the food and the ambiance. I would definitely recommend this restaurant and will be returning."

"There are very few decent brunches in this area. Dean's brunch was the best that I have found without having to drive to Pinehurst. Great seafood dishes. The omelet station was well organized and moved very quickly. The quality was just as good as table service.
They have very good regular bar specials as well. I went by last night for the half price raw bar special on Mondays."

"We enjoyed the seafood brunch at Dean's on Mother's Day -- the food and service were great, especially considering the enormous crowd. However, we were shocked when the bill arrived and the price of the brunch was 50% higher than it was on Easter Sunday (also a very popular and busy day at Dean's)."

"My wife and I went to Dean's for Mother's Day. We order a bottle of wine and two appetizers and an entree of Sea Bass. We asked that they Sea Bass be divided. Our waiter replied that they were not allowed to divide entrees. She brought the manager over who explained that the restaurant did not allow dividing, we could do it ourselves. I told the manager that we do not revisit such restaurants. I cannot remember being refused anywhere in the past five years.
It is a shame. The food was very good, but we never revisit restaurants that will not divide dishes. We don't mind paying an additional fee, but it is a condition of our patronage. We like appetizers and two entrees are too much food.
I guess this is a choice a restaurant makes"

"Great neighborhood restaurant. I loved the mixed grill - shrimp, salmon, scallops - my wife had the low country favorite - shrimp & grits. She loved the generous portion of shrimp and the tangy bbq sauce. Also, the grilled veggies were fantastic. The banana white chocolate bread pudding is to die for!!! The service was prompt, courteous and our server new the dishes and was not afraid to make recommendations."

"If you like seafood you will want to check out the newly opened Deans in Cary. They have an excellent selection of fish and other seafood served how you want it. The service was really great and knowledgeable about the menu and the food was very well prepared. Definitely recommended."

"I remember the "old" Michael Deans of Raleigh. It was very good. To be fair we went to Sunday brunch late and that is not the best thing to do. You could tell that there was a good variety and appropriate for both breakfast and lunch appetites. However we arrived
just prior to the end of serving and so we got the experience one would expect at that time. I would go back again but at an earlier
time or for a different meal, probably dinner in order to properly access the restaurant and service. The reputation of the prior establishment warrants us to give the new one another try."

"We've eaten at a number of Rocky Top restaurants in the past and have always liked their approach. Dean's is a great addition. We like the mix of local (NC) food and interesting food from all over. The meal at Dean’s was really really good. Our group had fun; we got great service, tried some new dishes, and felt very welcome. Some might think its a little pricey but it was worth it for a great evening out. We’re already planning to go back again!"

"Very good seafood. This is our second visit both times the food was cooked perfect. It is easy to over cook fish; they do a great job at Deans. The salmon was perfect! Our server did seem a little distracted. We never got the bread refill we requested and our water glasses did not stay full."

"Very small fish portions for the price. Fried oysters are OUTSTANDING! My seared tuna ended up well done after sitting in hot broth which was part of the dish. (Bad combo). However the manager took it off the bill and comped the oysters we loved so much. The menu is huge and complicated. Will give it another try because of the great service. Oh, and the bartender definitely knows how to make a cocktail!"

"This was my second visit to Dean's. The service both times has been incredible. In my opinion, the food is not worth the price, and the portions are somewhat small. I had surf & turf this last time. The steak was bland and flavorless. I got the grilled shrimp along with it. They were delicious, but the meal only came with 3 medium-sized shrimp. We also ordered the $15 dozen gulf oysters. They were also very delicious. At the end of the meal, split a dozen oysters, had a side caesar salad, surf & turf, two beers, and $82 + tip later, I left hungry.
My previous visit to Dean's was similar. I ordered the crab cakes--they were amazing. But again, the portion size was very small."

"Service was great. Lots of variety - waiter was very helpful in describing the 'accompaniment' portion of menu. We had pan-friend scallops and skewered shrimp. Both were jumbo-sized and the portions were generous. Very un-rushed atmosphere, even for a Saturday night. An oyster-lover's nirvana. A complete thumbs-up."

"Went here for my husband's birthday dinner. I am NOT a seafood fan, but he is. That being said, he totally enjoyed the raw oysters and mahi mahi. My steak was awesome; my son's cheeseburger was fine. They try too hard with the "extras" -- a good steak is perfection itself; put butter on top, but don't put spices and such in the butter - it would have been awesome without it. Same with the sauces...they are offered with the fish dishes, but in a restaurant who's claim is seafood....your fish should stand pretty much alone. Fresh fish (and beef) is a glorious thing - you don't need to hide it by slathering on sauces.
The bread pudding: a work of art - order it. The service - meh. Our waiter was inattentive. Others seemed fine."

"Our first vist and we were very disappointed. We had already heard about the spills and lack of ability to fill water glasses without spilling and droping ice - we weren't disappointed.Two in our party ordered salmon which unfortunately was overcooked and dry. No one else had much to say about their meals. The noise level was high and frankly the music did not appeal to anyone in our group - an 85 year old, and 20 year old and others in their 50's and 60's.
For the quality of the food, the lack of ambiance and far from attentive or smooth service, they are way overpriced.
Normally, i would try again but something tells me not much will change."

"An improved version of the original Raleigh restaurant. The restaurant is larger, more intimate setting - quiet to moderate noise - conducive to conversation. There is live music in the outdoor dining area on Fri and Sat after 9:00. The menu had many favorites from the Raleigh restaurant plus many new things. The food was wonderful - we had shark and blue marlin - perfect. The choice of sides includes many healthy options. The wait staff worked together to keep things moving. Very nice. It will be a regular for us."

"Disappointing experience...Meant to order steamed oysters, but ordered raw by mistake...server never offered to have them steamed instead. Beer ordered was barely cool, had to pur ice in it to be drinkable. Diiner entree (bowl) was like soup, if I knew this in advance, would have ordered something else."

"Nice place. We will repeat. Great selection of fish that you don't see at many other places. I had the Mako steak at the suggestion of the waiter. It was good, but personally, I would try something else next time. My wife got the Halibut and it was awesome. She gave me a bite and I immediately wished I had chosen that. My two sides we roasted vegetables and the Brie Mac and Cheese. The latter was phenomenal and I would highly recommend. The vegetables, on the other hand, were not so good. They cauliflower was very dried out and lacked flavor.
We skipped dessert because we had limited time, but the menu looked tasty."

"My husband and I used to love the blue cheese burger when it was Rockwell's, so that's what we ordered. First, we each had a salad...me, the garden salad, and my husband the apple salad. Both were wonderful and were pretty to boot. The burgers were good also, altho not quite to die for as they were before. Not sure what was changed when they "upscaled" it, but it isn't an improvement in taste. Neither of us like the fat steak fries, much preferring the skinny fries from the Rockwell days. That said, we plan to return, and often, so we can try out the rest of the menu."

"Went for their Easter Sunday brunch. Had reservations and had to wait only a short time. Food was very good, lots of great choices. Access to the line was a little cumbersome, with long lines. Wait staff was attentive. Will be going back! Want to try the evening menu."
