Review 2 for Quince Restaurant

Overall Rating 5.0 out of 5 (Outstanding)
"This time, I tried the Mixed Greens appetizer that the server recommended, served with a crispy, lightly fried goat cheese. I recommended the Liquid Cauliflower Ravioli to my dining partner, and he loved it. For my entree I had the Winter Squash Agnoletti, which was delicious, very hearty but delicate at the same time. For dessert, I ordered the Almond Pound Cake, but they accidentally brought me the Organic Apple Water at first. When I pointed this out, they were very nice about quickly bringing me the Almond Pound Cake and letting me keep the Organic Apple Water - which tasted great as well. We were then brought adorable mini carrot cake cupcakes with chocolate frosting to finish the meal. Another excellent meal. I will return."

Review 3 for Quince Restaurant

Overall Rating 4.0 out of 5 (Very Good)
"It was great to see the dining room retransformed from it last iteration at Trio back to a gracious, pleasant room. The food was quite good. Except for a somewhat overcooked halibut entree, our party really thought the food was very nice. Some interesting concepts like the liquid cauliflower ravioli harken back to Trio. The wine list was thoughtful and fairly priced. The cheese selection was very good and everyone enjoyed their desserts, which were quite creative, such as the panna cota with apple water, which was very refreshing and just right. The noise level was fairly high, but that may have been due to the specific party we were seated next to. Overall, the service was fine, but sometimes we were waiting longer than expected."

Review 10 for Quince Restaurant

Overall Rating 4.0 out of 5 (Very Good)
"Service was friendly and very helpful and knowledgable. Ambiance was quiet and elegant. Several dishes were perfect and unique without being over the top. Including the Squid Ink pasta appetizer. One disappointment was the coffee. While French Press service is delicious and special, each pot was $4.00 and only provided a cup and a half, with no refills. Also, the temperature of the coffee dropped quickly, so the second 1/2 cup refill was luke warm at best. At a high quality, high expense restaurant, its nice to linger over coffee and this service didn't allow or encourage that."

Review 11 for Quince Restaurant

Overall Rating 4.0 out of 5 (Very Good)
"I had heard good things about the prix fixe dinner on Sundays, & this just happened to be for the Valentine's Day menu. My first pleasant surprise was that they had several half bottles of wine. I like good wine, but my wife & I just don't drink that much so it's hard (& not a great idea) to finish a full bottle by ourselves. And the Pinot Noir was really quite nice.

The appetizer was a delicious pork dumpling (really more of a fried egg roll). The texture & flavors were wonderful. Both of the subsequent courses would have been enough food on their own (for me) and were lovely, particularly the salmon (with just a touch of flour to be crispy without weighing it down). The short ribs were very good as well.

We will definitely return.

Review 12 for Quince Restaurant

Overall Rating 4.0 out of 5 (Very Good)
"Excellent food!!!!! very smoothly run. friendly but very professional service. Warm and inviting.Charming but hip at the same time
we opted for the tasting menu and highly recommend it very creative and fun!
The only thing was dessert was not up to par to top off such an excellent meal.Especially for Valentines day should have been in the chocolate family with raspberry or some type of berry not pumpkin.

Review 14 for Quince Restaurant

Overall Rating 4.0 out of 5 (Very Good)
"The food was well-prepared and tasty. The plates looked beautiful, and the portions were a good size--neither skimpy nor too large. I had the duck breast and confit and appreciated the different flavors and the different vegetables included: celery root puree and the chard inside the adorable canneloni. I did not so much like the frisee salad: except for the roasted tomato bits, everything else was shredded so finely I occasionally thought I was munching on hay."

Review 16 for Quince Restaurant

Overall Rating 5.0 out of 5 (Outstanding)
"We went for an early dinner before going to the theater. The room was warm and inviting, very quiet and calming. We are on a diet so we were very pleased at the small portions of delicious gourmet delicacies. The quail artichoke salad was wonderful, as was the rib eye steak and fish entrees. The portions were just right for us, and any normal healthy eating adult. We even treated ourselves to dessert - pear and blood orange sorbets. Everything we ate was within the limits of our diet (except the delicious bread). The food was just the right portions and made with very healthy ingredients."

Review 20 for Quince Restaurant

Overall Rating 4.0 out of 5 (Very Good)
"The food at Quince was lovely, but inconsistent, and the portions were meager; we left hungry. The quail in the Artichoke & Quail Salad was excellent, but more than two slivers of artichoke would have been nice & the citrus dressing overwhelmed. The ribeye steak was perfect, if petite, but my companion's scallops, a special, though beautifully cooked, arrived in an unceremonious clump buried under the cream sauce without sides or garnish. We had to ask for more bread to try to fill up. The Chamomile Crème Brûlèe was deconstructed, which worked well for the brûlèe but not the crème. Of the Chocolate assortment, the single chocolate-filled donuthole was divine, the mousse passable, the rest disappointing. Service was slow but solicitous."

Review 21 for Quince Restaurant

Overall Rating 4.0 out of 5 (Very Good)
"The food is innovative and skillfully presented. Interesting ingredients are brought together and textures are unusual. Overall the dining experience is interesting but not always successful. We had salmon which was tasty and well prepared, sweet breads with short rib and grilled scallops with sturgeon; the accompaniments were more muddy than complementary. The chef needs to keep working to insure that the innovations are satisfying as well as new. The environment is very pleasant and the servers are congenial and knowledgeable."

"Nice and quiet restaurant. Appetizers were tiny but delicious. Both the entrees were very protein heavy. I was disappointed since there were no vegetable dishes to order on the side. The desserts were cleverly deconstructed yet this deconstruction took away from the classic taste one expects."

Review 26 for Quince Restaurant

Overall Rating 4.0 out of 5 (Very Good)
"Food at Quince was high concept, but the flavors backed up the presentation. All the soups, appetizers and main courses we ordered were very good indeed. A crab cake appetizer with "mustard foam" was excellent, as were lamb, ribeye and duck plats. The wait staff was a bit scattered -- we had to request a wine list, for example -- but very pleasant. We'd definitely go back."

Review 27 for Quince Restaurant

Overall Rating 5.0 out of 5 (Outstanding)
"This was our first time at Quince. I chose it because it was close to the Light Opera and the regular menu looked interesting on-line. I was a little worried when I found out there was only going to be a special New Years menu which had some ingredients we could not eat. The staff was very accomodating to the special diet needs of our group and made sure the kitchen removed pork from the third course. The food and service was outstanding, even serving sparkling juice to my fiteen year old son so he would not feel left out. We would certainly go back again to try the regular menu and will probably make it our restaurant for Light Opera nights. This is a true gem of Evanston."

We asked for the recipe of the cauliflower soup because we loved it so much. The waiters were polite and unobtrusive. There was a fire place that made the room warm and inviting. My youngest daughter, who is a picky eater, with the help of our friendly waiter found something she liked to eat and commented later that this place was definitely a keeper."

Review 35 for Quince Restaurant

Overall Rating 4.0 out of 5 (Very Good)
"It is always a pleasure to dine at Quince. The atmosphere is reserved and away from hustle & bustle without being stuffy. Service is attentive and helpful. The food arrives hot and the presentation is beautiful. Flavors are fresh, creative and varied. We both had fish entrees which were excellent. The chocolate dessert was delicious!"

"Everything was wonderful til the server forgot to enter our dessert order - but the restaurant made up for it by comping the coffees and dessert and being quite contrite - very inventive and delicious entrees - a great place!"

Review 39 for Quince Restaurant

Overall Rating 4.0 out of 5 (Very Good)
"We had a great dining experience at Quince. The service in the restaurant was perfect. Food was delicious. Only problem was in the cocktail lounge across the hall. We thought we would have a drink before dinner but the room was crowded with only the bartender to service all the guests. We left to have our drink in the restaurant. The cocktail lounge is lovely though, a huge improvement over what the room used to look like."

"It was fantastic! The only comment I would have would be to dim the lights a bit. There is a fireplace, but with the lights on full, you sort of miss the feel that a fireplace creates."

Review 41 for Quince Restaurant

Overall Rating 5.0 out of 5 (Outstanding)
"Our meal was fantastic... The ribeye melted in my mouth, as did the pork & brussels sprout entree. I'm not often in Evanston, but my meal at Quince definitely gave me a good reason to head back soon! No joke, it's that good..."

Review 42 for Quince Restaurant

Overall Rating 5.0 out of 5 (Outstanding)
"This is an excellent restuarant in downtown Evanston, a bit off the beaten path. Aside from being seated in the patio enclosure which was sort of chilly, the food and service we over the top. I strongly recommend the "Fall Flavors" appetizer for a taste treat. The entrees were beautifully served and delicious. They also offer a wonderful cheese platter for dessert that is a treat and a break from the traditional sweet fare. The service from valet to hostess-waitress-bus boys--was all you would expect from this higher ticket restaurant. Delicious martinis and nice wine list. Cost was just over $400 (with tip) for 4 of us but we did order wind and, as mentioned, martinis. Well worth it."

Review 43 for Quince Restaurant

Overall Rating 5.0 out of 5 (Outstanding)
"Lovely restaurant. The setting is different then the usual restaurant open room layout. This is more like an old house or something, with different dining areas divided up. It has a charm to it. The food is elegant. Represents the CHEF in every sense of the word. Excellant for special occasions, and romantic outings. Our seating request via Opentable, for a nice table was fullfilled. The service was terrific, the server knew everything about the food, and answered our questions. I couldn't afford to eat here on a regular basis, but for special occasions, I would go back and try another dish, and recommend it to others. They had valet service, there is parking on the street, I parked in a public self park around the corner."
