NICO Kitchen + Bar, the “Italian without Borders” restaurant concept from celebrated New Jersey Chef Ryan DePersio of Fascino and Bar Cara fame, is located in downtown Newark at NJPAC. "It's a great location for dinner before NJPAC events. Menu has limited but appealing dishes. Service was great. Ambience ok. Martinis seem to be in smaller glasses than last time we were here. Two in our party had the short ribs for dinner -- and they were drier and tougher than they should have been. Portions are smallish -- you will not need a doggie bag -- but adequate."

"The food is good, the service was good. Staff is helpful and friendly. The best part is its location in NJPAC. If you have tickets to an event at NJPAC this can't be beat. The prix fixe menu was diverse and it allows you to get great parking and avoid the crowds. It has a door direct to the center. The staff does a great job getting food out, so you can be on time to your event without making you feel rushed. I had 5:30 reservations before a performance at 8. It was a perfect place for dinner and a drink in a relaxed atmosphere."

"I went to this restaurant under another name, years ago at NJPAC. I expected the same - no way!! I made the reservation two weeks ago. When we arrived, they seated us in the bar. I asked for a table in the dining room - there was nothing. The sservice was terrible and the food mediocre. We arrived at 6:20 and left to go to the theater at 7:45. We still had not had dessert. We asked to come back at intermission to have dessert. I have not had such an unfortunate dining experience ever. I am writing a letter under separate cover because it is longer than allowed here."

"Servers and hostesses were polite and helpful. The building is very nice. Other than that the food was mediocre and very expensive for what you were getting. My busband and I had salads, two short rib entrees and two small desserts with 1 glass of wine and a cappucino and that came to $99.42. Convenient but will not return because the quality of the food just doesnt stand up to the prices."

"This well designed restaurant is a lovely space with very good service. The food is good, but not up to the price point charged. Dining before a concert, there was a 3 course price fixed dinner only option for $42 pp. I had a good yellow fin tuna tartar as an appetizer, and tried an rather unexceptional beet salad (3 of 5 appetizer choices were salads, a 4th being cooked vegetables). My entree was 4 large well prepared sea scallops, which was very good. Finally, my dessert was a unexceptional tiramisu. My suggestion, consider if attending NJPAC accepting a good meal at a moderately high price, but one could do better otherwise, either in price or quality."

"We went to Nico Kitchen & Bar before a performance at NJPAC. I wasn't aware that only the Prix Fixe Menu would be available, not the regular menu as available. We enjoyed the food but the choices were very limited, as most prix fixe menus are. The prix fixe menu on the website was a sample and not the one that was available. My entree was delicious, but I had a difficult finding an appetizer or a dessert that I liked. The service was excellent and they are very aware that you are making a show, so they make plan accordingly. The restaurant is somewhat noisy and the bar is crowded, but I enjoy that environment pre-concert."

"Very nice architectural space inside the NJPAC. Food was very good, tuna tartar was excellent. Prix Fixe menu for evenings when there is a show, which is what we partook of. A very nice range of choices so different tastes can be accommodated. Our main waitperson was excellent, the wrap-around service was a little spotty as the bar was very busy, (ie bought the drink for my lady) but the correction response was good. Food presentation was excellent as was preparation we had the scallops and short rib entree, both were excellent. Great pastry chef who lived up to the hype of our waitperson. Decent prices for the Prix Fixe. Reasonable wine list and prices on by the glass. All in all a very good choice."

"Went for dinner before the Fleetwood Mac concert. The service was slow and got worse from there. They didn't bring us any bread until we asked for it (others who came after us received it clearly without asking). The food was very good but minimalist - no a la carte side dishes to be had. Dessert was good, but came out long before the espresso, so it was not possible to consume the two together. Would not recommend - there are many better places to go for an enjoyable dinner."

"The menu is so limited I had to study it to find something to eat, let alone enjoy....not even a steak on the menu!!! Nothing plain and simple, without fancy add-ons was available. We have been coming to the PAC since it's opening and we are not renewing our season tickets because the restaurant is so lacking and the performances are equally lackluster."

"Arrived at 6 PM. Seated in the bar. Complained about the noise. Dining room was empty but were told they were saving it for people with reservations. Said we also had reservations from three months ago. Even telling her might never return got no response at all. Waited ten minutes to finally receive our drinks. People came in afterwards on both sides of us received appetizers before us. 6:45 dinners showed us. Refused to accept them. We said we wanted our appetizers first and would not accept the dinners if they just kept them warm. 7:00 the appetizers showed up. 7:20 the people on both sides of us received their dinners. Asked the manager for our dinners. Showed up ten minutes later but one was wrong. Almost missed the start of the show."

Seems that us and the table next to us ordered second drink and was almost finished dinner before we got them. It was an early reservation and did not look filled yet. Possibly the bar. "We thought the prix fixe of $42 (on performance nights) was a little steep - particularly when the scallop entree came with three scallops! When we ordered coffee, one of us asked for steamed milk, another for milk. The waiter told us to "make up your minds". And then the milk was served in coffee cups not creamers. We also had to ask for bread several times before it was served. All in all, disappointing."

"At was refreshing to see a vegetarian entrée and not to have to make a special request...We did have to ask for bread and two courses we had to correct who was eating which dish. It would feel less like a cafeteria and more like dinning if you were able to order your dessert after your meal or even not be "forced" to have one. Would it hurt the bottom line too much to offer either a two or three course option? With all the emphasis on obesity how about opting for good nutrition."

"When I made the reservation I was not made aware that the only menu available was for a $42 price fixed deal. I was put off by this at first, but, went for it anyway and was more than pleased with the result. However, after being told by our wait-person that on performance nights at NJPAC, the deal was what was offered, period, two old biddies sat next to us and had desserts and coffees, period.
I'm glad that everything we were served was really good and well worth the price, but, I still feel bamboozled."

"We had been to Nico before, and had a very enjoyable dinner. So when our party of 8 bought tickets for an event at NJ PAC, it was a no-brainer to make reservation for dinner at Nico.
Our reservation was honored. The food and service were, as usual, excellent. A good time was had by all. Highly recommended!"

"Service was a little slower than normal this time, which shouldn't be the case as they simplified the menu from Theater Square Grill to speed things up. They also initially seated us by a very large and noisy table, and it took a while for us to get moved. We still made the concert (barely though)."
