"The waiter messed up one of our orders. We wanted the salmon from the specials menu, but we were given the regular menu item. Neither the waiter nor the Maitre'd (sp?) did anything about it. They did not offer to swap out he wrong dish for the correct one. We did not receive an apology. We did not see any adjustment on our bill. There was no acknowledgment what so ever that we were given the wrong dish. They did not try to make the situation right."

"Susan's Downfall is a must. This is such a nice and friendly restaurant with delectable menu items prepared beautifully. Their specials are fabulous, crab salad or halibut is out of this world! Clean and crisp with white linen tablecloths and warm and inviting ambiance. It has been a treat to dine here, with friends, Aunts, co-workers, family since the year 2000 whether out on the patio in the sunshine or inside well-lit and comfortable!"

"Brought a few friends and family here during the middle of the week, and had a great time! The service was excellent, as the server paid attention to us, as needed, and had a witty sense of humor as well. He was engaging and friendly, and didn't make any errors in our orders. The place is a bit challenging to find if you aren't familiar with this area, but there is a nice parking lot right next to it, which is convenient. The food here was great (there were six of us in our party, and we all enjoyed our entrees), but I would recommend that you try their Susie's Downfall and Polenta. I had the Seabass for my entree, but I think it's a special item, so I'm not sure if it's available regularly. In all, our group had a great experience!"

"Cafe Pro Bono has been a special find for me. I am in the Palo Alto are at least one per quarter, ansd I always enjoy at least one meal per trip at Cafe Pro Bono. On my most recent trip, I took a party of 6, including three "new" customers. Our table was ready on time, the service was great, the food was fantastic (everyone used their bread to clean their empty plates!) and the overall experience created three new customers!"

"We celebrated a very special occasion and were thoroughly delighted with everything about the evening. The ambience of Cafe Pro Bono is great - candles on the tables, nice lighting and a very friendly and energetic staff. We started with the wine list and the wine manager was very knowledgable and suggested a bottle of wine that turned out to be just wonderful. Our food was great - the salads were fresh, well presented and delicious. The main courses were great - we had a fresh seafood risotto and a veal piccata with vegetables and small potatoes. And, our dessert was a wonderful house-made tiramisu."

"We had booked via open table 2 days in advance but when we got there the manager made us wait for over 10 mins. He said that he did not bother to look at reservations made via open table so he had no idea that we had booked a table. This to me is unacceptable and unprofessional,then why bother to be a part of open table? He was rude and argued with us about the fact that he was trying to set up a table for us especially. That should not have been the case, it was my birthday and it was meant to be a special evening, the managers attitude left a damper on our evening and I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone.

"We have been going to Pro Bono for several years. The food is excellent and the staff friendly and efficient. It is always a challenge to make a choice from a menu that is not too big but offers an excellent choices in every category -= fish, meat, pasta, etc. The main room is the most attractive but it is good that they now have additional space."

"i won't go back. it's not an authentic Italian place. the owner obviously was a lot more concerned about his regulars, than any one new coming in. We arrived before a group of his regulars and he gave us a bad corner table to accomodate them. the food was ok. the place was loud, but not energetic."

"Neighborhood Gem is the best way to describe this place. I had the Pro Bono salad and the venison medallions. Both were excellent. However the potatoes and carrots with the venison were not appealing. Presentation and service were excellent. Nice selection of half bottles. Dining in the main restaurant is much nicer than in the storefront next door. In winter there are cold drafts with all the movement between the two locations. Maybe if they become convinced that this is a permanent addition to the restaurant (which certainly appears to be successful enough to merit the additional space), they can make some better alterations."

"The food was exceptional as always. We were seated in their overflow dining room which I really didn't care for as it lacked ambience. Was a little disappointed they didn't acknowledge my bday since we had advised it was when making the reservation. They also made a great wine recommendation based on what we said we liked."

"Although the restaurant was very busy since it was Valentine's Day, our service was non-existent. I'm worried if we hadn't made the waiter take our full order the first time he came by we never would have received any food at all. I had to grab the hostess after an hour and a half to get someone to refill our long since empty water cups. We never got a waiter's attention again after getting our food. We waited over forty minutes after eating before I could grab someone to clear our plates and get us dessert menus. It seems like we got seated at a table with no server since most of the tables around us arrived later and finished before we did. The food was excellent as usual, but I had never experienced such a lack of service for 2 people."

"This has been one of my favorite local restaurants for decades. They update their menu frequently with innovative (but not weird) selections and still keep the old favorites, like "Susan's Downfall." This time I had two appetizers and a salad; all were excellent, but the sauce on the prawns was to die to for. I had to restrain myself from licking the plate.
I had made a reservation fro 12:30; parking was a nightmare and I was nearly a half-hour late; they were very accommodating and kept our table open."

"I've been to this restaurant before, and had a better experience then. Service was incredibly slow, although nice. I never had water or tea refilled and we had to flag down several servers to get the bill so we could get to a performance. Dessert took more than 10 minutes to arrive. I'm hoping they just had an off day, but it was a disappointment since I took my mom out for a nice dinner that fell a bit flat."

"waiters were coming from kitchen through people waiting at front for tables to go outside to go next door to serve food. tough for people to comfortably stand by the front. too long to get drinks and bread. ravioli gorgonzola- sauce was really good, raviolis were average. I had the rib eye steak on the special menu. it was a very thin cut like the valu pak at the grocery store. I asked for medium rare and clarified that would mean it would be quite pink in the middle. the waiter assured me it would be. it was medium to medium well. after quite a while he asked how it was, and I told him it was overcooked. After a long wait, he said the chef would re-make it. I told him I didn't want to wait that long. no credit. we paid and left"
