Sette Osteria
Sette is Italian for seven, the traditional "lucky" number. The restaurant design is comfortable with a traditional Italian tone, and with a great "feel and flow." Sette Osteria is a destination place for people as well as a place for people walking in the area to come in and enjoy.
Decor: Sette Osteria has an open kitchen and an action station viewable by guests. Pizzas are cooked in a wood-burning pizza oven.
The best decor in a restaurant is people. Windows give guests a view of the active passing scenes on busy Connecticut Avenue and R Streets. And, people walking by are able to view a very inviting and appealing restaurant. The decor is soft and appealing but still carries a theme of sophisticated Italian culture and international buzz. Guests can view the young people going in and out of the chic clothing stores Benetton and Sisley.

"We visited to enjoy the "bottomless mimosa" brunch. The brunch selections were tasty and generous and the service attentive. Very pleasant atmosphere on a Sunday morning. (We suspect the ambiance could be energetic in the evening.) The outside sitting area is a must in nice weather."

"Osteria has a policy to not seat you until your whole party arrives. Thankfully, even though some of our group was 15min late, they did not give up the table to other people. There was enough seating on a Sunday night to accomodate everyone."

"With less than 30 people in the restaurant my guest and I were totally neglected at our outside table. The waitress' excuse was that they were making and serving drinks as well as waiting tables. My guest and I even had to ask for our check."

"Sette is a lively scene with a fun vibe, especially on weekends. The food is good and reasonably priced, standard osteria-type food - nothing fancy. Mixed grilled seafood done correctly, i.e., nothing overcooked. The staff handled the crowd well, and our food and drink (for 5) were delivered in a timely fashion and the orders were correct. Outdoor space is OK - heated on a chilly May night, but not particularly cozy as it's on a pretty busy street just off Connecticut. Some more tall plants would be helpful. One real quibble - the bread is far below standard. It was sliced pita or the equivalent. A good Italian bread or a real focacchia (not thin, flat and hard, as this was) would be much better."

"Took over 45 minutes to get us seated, even though we had a reservation, but they were nice and stopped to say they're working on it a couple of times. We hung out by the bar and weren't really in a rush. The food was very filling as we didn't have appetizers nor any room for dessert. So even though their pastas might not look large, they are filling. Food was tasty, we liked the salmon special, gnocchi (to which we added chicken) and crab special pasta.
The sangria is good too, both white and red.
Good ambiance, a bit loud at times, but not too loud to have a good conversation.
Outdoor seating is nice, although it was a bit chilly for us, so we stayed inside.
Would come back."

"The good-spirited hustle and bustle of this lively Dupont Circle bistro fueled our appetite on this our first visit. Yes, it took a while to get our drinks, and the watery Grey Goose martini with second rate olives didn't get us off to the best of starts, BUT the rest of our meal was very satisfying including impeccably fresh & flavorful salads, pasta, & fish. And extra credit goes to Sette Osteria for the pepper mill, good olive oil, and bowls of parmesan and hot pepper flakes which were with us throughout the meal -- a very welcome practice in which all too few restaurants partake. Am giving a 5* rating because this happy dining experience was greater than the sum of its parts."

"We very much enjoyed our dinner - delicious food and great service! We had a little boy in our party and our waiter was very kind to him - we appreciated this immensely. I love the outdoor seating area and definitely plan on returning to this restaurant. Perhaps not on a Friday or Saturday night at 8:00 because it was lively, but definitely a great find for us in Dupont - thanks for a great start to the weekend!"

We used a Capitol Deal which was pretty restricive (only 4 entrees were available and only 1 red or 1 white wine, or sangria was available) but our waitress (2nd day on the job) was very attentive and tried to be more accommodating than the Deal allowed. Sette is consistently good and I never hesitate to return."

"Coming from out of town I used Opentable to find a restaurant. My friend had the homemade pasta and said it was outstanding! "It was so light and delicious!" I enjoyed a nice side salad and the Branzino special. The drinks were good too. The tables are a little tight but the food made you forget how close your neighbor was. The service was also wonderful. I am going to come back to Sette Osteria the next time I am in town!"

"I had a great birthday dinner at Sette Osteria on Saturday night. We had a table for 15, and though the whole restaurant was small/crowded, we had a great time. The bartender was nice and gave me a glass of prosecco, the hostess and wait staff were excellent, and the food was delicious. They serve dinner quickly...not really a place to linger with such a large group. We enjoyed a great dinner and then walked to one of the Dupont area bars where it was easier for the whole group to mingle."

"I booked this restaurant on the knowledge that it is corkage free. But when I arrived, the waiter told me the corkage was $10-15. It is only after I mentioned that it was listed as a BYOB restaurant in Open Table that he agreed to waive the corkage. I wonder if there is any way to avoid such embarrassment from the very beginning, e.g. by including this in Open Table's booking form.
