Sophisticated Southern and Gourmet Country are great ways to describe the cuisine at the charming Mack & Kate"s Cafe. Named after two sisters, MacKenzie and Kathleen, our family owned and operated establishment will make you feel right at home. Started in a small, sleepy town, Mack & Kate's humbled beginnings took place in a small service station. This charming little destination dining spot grew over eight years, resulting in the Strawn Family relocating Mack & Kates to Franklin, TN.
We enjoy seeing our friends from our early days and our new friends here in Franklin.
We use the freshest and finest when it comes to our ingredients and always support local farmers and growers. We pride our self in our accommodating and knowledgeable service team and the ability to consistently feed our customers what they are looking for; the freshest from the best.
"I rarely review, but had a very mediocre experience at a restaurant that charges like it is something it is not.
Made a reservation, and our table was a seat at the seat yourself table top bar top area. Arrived on time and notified the server that we had a movie at 830 (90 minutes from our reservation). Took 15-20 minutes before we had drinks, 45 before salad, and 75 in before we were told food was the No. 2 ticket. Finally, a bread basket arrived. Our food was out 15 minutes later. It was good, but certainly not on par with the many other options in the area similarly priced... Our server was apologetic about the kitchen delay, and offered a dessert. So, not his fault I suppose, but will likely go elsewhere for our next date night..."

"The food was great but the service was disappointing. You know it is bad when you have to ask another server for help. Maybe not always like this but our server also had a large table that seemed to monopolize his time. With that said, I would still go back. In my view, once is an outlier, twice is a pattern."

"First time to Mack and Kate's for a business dinner. Food and service were great. I was suprised of the 'feel' of the restaurant with it being in a little strip center, but it was much nicer than I expected.
Two of us had the scallops and we both agreed they were outstanding. The other two in our party were please with their choices as well."

"We waited a long time for our food, which was blamed on a big party that was ahead of us. My husband and I both had the lobster macaroni and cheese, which we get at restaurants often. It was watery and a couple bites of the lobster didn't taste that well. The friends we were with had the burger which was described as "okay" and the chicken pasta which was described as "good". It's not on our list to go back."

"The food was really good. Their menu changes seasonly. Mixed drinks are a little pricer than they should be. Only complaint is they didn't update their website with the new spring menu (and the online menu didn't say winter), so what I planned on getting wasn't available. But I loved what I ended up getting, so it still worked out. I had the chicken, pasta, asparagus dish - delicious. My hubby had the meatloaf, which he loved and said he'd get again."

"My husband and I enjoyed a lovely dinner at Mack and Kate's last week. He had the pork loin (superb) and I had the pasta. The pasta was very good, but very rich (probably more rich that I would've preferred). The coconut cake was divine! Aside from good food, our favorite part of the restaurant was the ambiance and romance. The decor is romantic and the restaurant was lacking children (which was a nice change from many other Franklin restaurants). Our server was outstanding, made great recommendations and read our table well (which meant that he was scarce so we could enjoy a nice, romantic dinner)."

"Brunch at Mack and Kate's was a delight! From the 'at home' atmosphere to the service to the food, an A+! Have been to Macke's many times and now must try M's. This family knows how to do it! The "Fried Green Tomato Benedict" is a must!"

"Mack and Kates is one of those places where you don't even need to look at a menu. The servers were outstanding, offering a wonderful wine that suited my taste and a meal to match it. They had many ideas on how to mix and match seasonal items that were all delicious. It was comfortable, tasty, affordable and a find!"

"Cozy atmosphere with good food. The fresh fish, mahi mahi, was perfectly cooked with creamy orzo pasta and a salsa on top. No heavy sauces, just fresh food."

"My wife and I have started trying a new restaurant every Friday night and Mack and Kate's was our choice this week. I had their fried pork chops with Gouda mac and cheese and steamed broccoli and my wife had the shrimp and grits and a house salad. Everything was delicious.
The only complaint I had was that the portions were a little small for the price. I ate everything on my plate and was still hungry, where at most restaurant's I fill up and have leftovers for lunch the next day. For the money, I felt like there should have been more or at least included a salad. Not much of a complaint, just letting you know what to expect."

"Me and my friend felt rather ignored by the wait staff during our dinner visit. The food was not to bad but parts of the dish come out colder than others. I wish the music was not so loud, the louder the music gets the louder people talk. I think lunch is better than dinner."

"A teriffic restaurant with great southern cuisine. The waiter was attentive but not overbearing. Nice atmosphere, not to high end but just perfect. The food was just delicious with average pricing for a restaurant as nice as it is. Thanks..."

"Great food and service and kid friendly. The food was kind of southern fusion like mac and cheese with lobster. It is not inexpensive but worth the money. Wait staff was creative with coming up with good kid food. I would give it 5 stars"

"Once again food was excellent. The food definitely falls in the comfort food category with the pork chop and lobster mac and cheese the tops. Wife had the red grouper special which was excellent."

"My wife and I went for the 1st time and were very pleased with the ambiance and the menu selections. The quality of the food was outstanding. My only negative comment would be in regard to the service. We had made reservations and the hostess seated us promptly. Once seated, our server did not arrive for several minutes. We had to flag down a server who announced that he was our server. Another party had been seated after us and was greeted promptly by their server who took their drink orders. Not happy with that situation. Secondly, our server never told us about the nightly specials as we overheard other parties being told. Two strikes. Otherwise, we enjoyed our experience very much and will return."

"The shrimp and grits were wonderful; the beef, mushroom pasta dish had way too much olive oil. The salad was very plain (mayo and lettuce?), the crab cakes were nice but certainly nothing to brag about although their presentation was beautiful, and the chocolate dessert (flourless chocolate cake) was a bit dry. The waiter was excellent. I was excited to go but considering an average price of over $100.00 for two people for dinner (including tip), I was disappointed."

"We have been several times & it has always been fantastic. The sea scallops are my favorite but there are plenty of other top notch menu items to choose from all of which are superb!! I highly recommend MacK & Kate's."

"I'm a food blogger and eat out a lot. I have eaten at the newer M restaurant and I think I liked Mack and Kate's just as much if not more. We started with tcrab and avocado salad. While tasty, it lacked crab, but was delicious. Probably wouldn't order it again unless they added more crab. The special was Trigger fish with Risotto and was excellent as the waiter had recommended it would be. We also had the steak and biscuits which were perfectly prepared along with amazing crispy truffle fries. I would come back to get that sandwich. We were too full for dessert, but I know (from M) that the blackberry cobbler is sensational. Great atmosphere. Seating not very comfortable."

"don't really have a rating for Mack & Kate's because we didn't get to eat there ! They aren't open at night anymore. We were in town visiting, and drove 20 mins from our hotel and couldn't get in, so I called and the voice message said they aren't open for dinner anymore. They REALLY need to update their hours with Open Table so that people can't make reservations for dinner !!!!!"

"The food was across the board excellent. I cannot recommend the restaurant because the service bordered on incompetent. The dining room was only half to two thirds full and the staff did not seem overly stressed. We were briefly acknowledged upon sitting down but we sat there for about 15 minutes before the water glasses were filled and drink orders taken. Apparently there were several specials but we did not hear them. Several other tables received what looked like a complimentary tray of small biscuits but we did not. The second round of wine took at least 10 minutes so we just sat there not eating so we could enjoy it with our appetizer. A number of times our water glasses remained empty even though the server filled glasses next to us."

"Never fails... Food was tremendous and the staff, as usual, treated us perfectly!!! You can't go wrong with the servers.. All are good. Fried green tomatoes, beef tenderloin, scallops, lobster Mac N Cheese, and peanut butter pie... And it was as good as it sounds!!!"
