"first visit at this location on Waialae Avenue. The food is still top notch and service was fast. We enjoyed the hamachi kama, Jodie's Roll that featured seared hamachi on the outside and spicy tuna roe, aioli sauce, masago and green onions - definitely one to order again! We also had the gyutan which was so delicious, it didn't even need the ponzu sauce it was served with. All that plus 16 orders of assorted nigiri sushi, oysters and oyster shooters. Dinner for two without drinks was a reasonable $202 before tip. Can't wait to come back again. Had to get two orders each of the hotate and moi nigiri sushi, it was so good."

"come early to avoid the dinner crowd and you can guarantee find parking behind the restaurant. we ordered the 'stairways to heaven' sashimi platter, ahi poke, oysters, and drinks. honestly i like this place more than Sasabune because it doesn't have that intimidating feeling as you're about to eat your food. service started out good when the restaurant was empty but we had to flag down our server by the end of the meal just to grab another drink and our check."

"The food we had was great, but the service was severely lacking. We ordered server all things, which were never punched in...so we waited for about 15-20 minutes for nothing. The servers seemed to be running around like chickens with no heads... Aside from that ordering fiasco, what we had was good. Kind of expensive for fair service and good food."

"Omikase, Chef's choice, is the trend here, at least for your first few visits; you will need to learn the intricate delicacies that are NOT California roll or caterpillar roll. Standouts were the dueling mackerel sushies from different types of fish, and the South Aftrican Lobster tail tossed with a mild aioli and rebaked in the lobster tail, served hot, yet the meat was mostly still raw in the middle. It was a show stopper! A great meal, gourmet meals are never cheap and this one was a ride of adventurouse flavors that were all memorable! Recommended."

"I have always wanted to try Sushi Sasabune but have never gone due to the high cost and Omakase requirement (we are not super adventurous sushi eaters.) I heard of Kona Kai from a friend who said that the head chef at Kona Kai studied under Sasabune and that they preferred Kona Kai over Sasabune. We ordered ala carte. I enjoyed the Spicy Ahi Chips and my Blue Crab Stuffed Eel. The Ebi Nigiri (orange shrimp) threw me back because I believe it was raw (it was not my favorite, but interesting). My husband thought the steak was just okay. We both loved the sushi roll with spicy ahi inside and hamachi on top (I think it might be called Joanies roll). I also loved the lobster dynamite."
