Ouisie's Table
Known by generations for her hospitality, proprietress Elouise Adams Jones, a.k.a. Ouisie, serves an eclectic collection of Southern foods with an excellent wine list to match. High ceilings and fans in the main dining room it evoke the ambiance of a Texas manor house. The adjacent dining porch overlooking the patio and garden, as well as Cooper’s Wine Bin, provide additional dining and entertaining areas. The daily fare encompasses traditional offerings like her well-loved pimento cheese, the shrimp and grits, and the popular Gulf Coast oysters to the favorite Tuesday special Ouisie’s award winning chicken fried steak with corn pudding. A fine plate of grilled Prime beef tenderloin or a brace of quail stuffed with super lump crab meat with Cognac glaze are good examples of the daily specials one might find on the blackboard.

"My girlfriend and I took her dad to Ouisie's to celebrate Father's day and it was disappointed. Both my girlfriend's red snapper and my halibut were overcooked, and my girlfriend's father garnish was cold. On the other hand, the starters were good.
I think we will not return to Ouesie's in a long while."

"Not going to compete with the Fleming's of the world, but I dont think it is supposed to, or should. Oussie's is a nice place with a great ambiance, live music, and decent wine list which will leave you satisfied on all accounts. Food leaves a bit to be desired but it is also moderately priced."

"This was my first time at ousie's and I'd heard great things about the scenery and food. It was just okay for me. I may try it again, but not for brunch as I felt limited by the menu. Also, my waiter wasn't very helpful in explaining anything. Just wasn't impressed by the food or service."

"the food is always good, but the noise level caused by a live musical group made for uncomfortable dining.
I usually love live music at a restaurant, but Ousie has put it in the middle of the room, very close to tables and even after changing tables, made conversation even between 4 people almost impossible

"The service was first rate and it went down from there. I couldn't hear my companion speak as there were two loud wedding parties celebrating and we were in a back room. The food was not of the quality I had expected for a place in River Oaks. Will not be visiting this establishment anytime again soon."

"The food and the service are invariably spectacular, but it's really the atmosphere and ambiance that cannot be beat, or even matched. Lots of restaurants have really good food and service, but there is no place in town that is as pleasant, nice and relaxed as Ousie's. It feels like being at a friend's house. That's nearly impossible to replicate, especially without looking like you're trying too hard. Still hate valet though."

The food was bad. I ordered the Yellow Fin Tuna. Whoever cooked it had no idea what they were doing. It didn't have one speck of seasoning and had the texture and taste of room temperature tofu. If not for the sauce, it would have had no taste at all. It was the worst tuna I have ever had. If anyone would have asked, I would have told them. The waiter didn't ask and a manager never bothered.
My wife's chicken was OK but it wasn't special at all.

"We went with another couple for the first time. Food was delicious, service was excellent, and live music provided a wonderful backdrop to our evening. Great place to visit and catch up with friends and enjoy a great meal as grown-ups. Ouisie's had a very welcoming, comfortable feel that made us feel quite at home. We look forward to returning."

"Ousie's has such a great feel to it and the food is consistently good! I have been there many times and have always loved my food. I tried the pumpkin seed crusted flounder with fried shrimp special this time and it was great. My husband and I split the lemon pie for dessert but I really wanted the entire thing myself!"

"I have all my business lunches here. It is easy for the downtowners to get to, and convenient for the inside and outside the loopers. Food is always good and offers a great selection for all palates. While noise level is energetic you always feel you may have a private conversation. Ouisies table is my go to place for business lunches."

"We were seated early, but on the closed-in porch. It was a little loud out there because of other patrons, so I asked if we could be moved in the main dining room, and they moved us right away. The waiter was attentive most of the time. He must have gotten busy, because there were times we had to wait. We started with the crabcake appetizer and it tasted like it came from Sysco. There wasn't any flavor at all. My boyfriend had the scallops with risotto. They were cooked perfectly and were delicious. I had the snapper and oysters. The fish was overcooked. The broth on the bottom was good, but the fish itself was tasteless. We ended with Tres Leches, and it was excellent. The music was great. It was entertaining but not intrusive."

"Ouisie's is simply perfect. My favorite seating is always The Porch, but the dining room is lovely for a more formal ambience. I have grown up with Ouisie's, starting when there was a simple chalkboard menu on Sunset. The food is outstanding and the service is impeccable. It is wonderful to have such an excellent restaurant where kids are welcome, but, at the same time, adult groups can have an elegant meal. Special events are handled effortlessly, with beautiful attention to detail. Ouisie's is comfortable, yet elegant and the food is superb."

"We've dined at Ouisie's Table many, many times over the years, and it has always been a favorite, but we were very disappointed with our experience last Sunday. To be fair, it was Mother's Day, and the restaurant was extremely busy. But much of the food we were served was not up to par.
Two orders of shrimp gazpacho were sent back because they were nothing but broth (no veggies, no shrimp, no nada). To his credit, the waiter immediately replaced them with salads. The rack of lamb was delicious, but the sides were mushy and tasteless. The red snapper was tough, and the risotto that accompanied it was bland.
We'll surely give Ouisie's another chance, but not on a holiday."

"I recently went with my family for the first time in years (having only been there for a business lunch before where I didn't pay much attention to the food). The menu was very limited and it was hard to find something that was not high in fat. Giving up on healthy, I had beef tenderloin tacos. It was less interesting than what I would get at Torchy's Tacos for 1/3 the price. One companion had a breakfast dish with eggs that were brown. I like eggs but could not eat these. I guess they were cooked in butter that had turned a bit dark in the skillet. Finally, the wait staff seemed bored or perhaps they wanted to be some place else; I did."

"WE had not been in a year or so. it was Mother's day early evening. There seemed to be a shortage of staff. Waits were long. Some items of food had run out. A long standing issue is the lack of vegetarian items on the menu. When the waiter offered a nice solution, the kitchen came out with something entirely different and not suitable. after most of the guests had finished, the vegetarian member of our team got her food.
probably wont come back for awhile. Her other restaurant has been better than this one."

"Excellent food, bad service. We were brought check without asking if we wanted dessert. Waiter got upset when we said that to him. He said he asked us if we needed anything else and we said no so he brought the check. Also, they started moving all of the tables and chairs and putting them away while we were still talking and having coffee. It was obvious and apparent they wanted us out and wanted to close. They even drew a curtain that blocked off our section. Given this is considered a high-end restaurant, I wouldn't have expected this service."

"I hate Valet Parking.I do not like anyone inside my car. The Valet Guys are like Nazzis and try to force you out of your car. I tip them and ask to park it myself which is reasonable. They do not assist at all. What difference is it to them. I do not want my car damaged by anyone again.This needs to be addressed.. I would go to Ouisie's more often if I didn't have to deal with militant Valets. R J IS THE BEST WAITER I HAVE EVER HAD ! VERY ATTENTIVE AND PROFESSIONAL!"

"Service - a bit intrusive. Food - fair at best (my dish was room temp at best; my friend's homemade chips would've been much better if fried in fresh oil and well-drained). Pretty disappointed in the food, but I usually am there. But, no question, Ouisie's is a pretty place."

"Dined at this restaurant before but this time the food and service was not up to par. My food was bland and lukewarm. Service was fair. I ordered shrimp and grits without the bacon and mushrooms. The waiter brought me a bowl of grits with bacon and mushrooms with NO SHRIMP. My family and I should have chosen another restaurant to have Easter Brunch. We left feeling very unsatisfied."

"My overall rating for Ouisie's Table would have been 5 stars, but the kitchen had run out of several items (including eggs) after the Easter Sunday lunch rush. By 5:30pm, it seems like someone could have purchased a few dozen eggs :) or at least alerted the server so that he could have told us which menu selections (the fixed Easter menu) were unavailable before we placed our orders. Otherwise, it was delightful! This was my first visit, my choice for celebrating my birthday with family after hearing so many great things. I look forward to returning. A+!"

"This was Easter Sunday with a reservation at 2pm. The waiter apologized and indicated they had served over 700 people However, it was a long wait for our food to be served.(45 minutes) Then when it was served they forgot part of the entree. The waiter did his best. Probably an earlier reservation would have been a better choice."
