Central
Central, located in the heart of Montgomery’s Downtown entertainment district, is a true American restaurant highlighting local and seasonal ingredients. This locally owned gem offers wood-fired dishes in an 1890’s warehouse space boasting exposed brick, flickering gas lanterns and a bustling open kitchen. In the main dining room, 16 foot ceilings, spectacular overhead lighting, a central bar comprised of reclaimed wood all overlook Montgomery’s downtown alley.

"I was very pleased that our table was ready to go straight away - this does not always happen when you make reservations at a restaurant. The hostess was very sweet and thoughtful of the fact that one of our group has mobility issues. Our server was nice, but he could barely get words out of his mouth in an understandable way. He kept going on and on and on...and on. I was so embarrassed for him that I couldn't make eye contact and that is not like me at all. Basically, it made the entire brunch awkward for our party - we were there for Mother's Day, not "Love Your Waiter Day."
The food was good - the best item ordered was the pimento cheese with flatbread appetizer. Overall, a nice meal with family, but I didn't get a "wow!" factor."

"We had a great experience. We were celebrating our anniversary and thought it was the perfect spot. We had a great table for some privacy and yet were able to see the room and speak to those we recognized. The food was great and the service was top notch. Didn't feel like we were in Montgomery, felt like an upscale locals place in a large city."

"Central is the most elegant of the restaurants that have opened in the city's entertainment district. It's a good choice for entertaining out of town business guests, and that was the purpose of this meal. Food was well prepared, hot and enjoyed by the table. Only downside was service staff seemed constantly distracted, and perhaps stretched too thin. However, to give our waiter credit, he was as attentive as we needed."

"I had a client in town from Virginia who had dined at another restaurant and she was totally disappointed in the service and food based on the price; she admits to being a food snob. Your restaurant was the only one for which she had positive comments. And our waiter was great; I believe his name was James.

"Made reservations but ended up with one of the worst tables in the isle while walk-ins were able to get nice booths. It took about 35 minutes to get our first round of drinks. By this point we were frustrated for the rest of the evening."

"This is a beautiful space and seems to be a place to see and be seen by locals. Well dressed crowd, beautiful décor and design, very busy open kitchen, in a very lively area of town. The most memorable food item was the homemade pimento cheese served with flatbread made in house. Salad was excellent, but a small portion of the same salad came with the entrée and the waited failed to steer us to a different appetizer to avoid duplication. The waiters highly rated salmon came out so fast our salads were far from complete. The presentation was good, but it was overcooked and void of flavor. It is a fun place with that we would visit again when in the area."

"Visiting Montgomery on our way to Florida for spring break ... looked on Yelp and Open Table for a great restaurant ... very happy to have come across Central. Located in an old building with great decor and vibe - waiters in jeans & plaid shirts, exposed brick and fabulous windows. We loved the menu and our waiter helped us pick excellent wines & dishes. The only disappointment was my son's mac & cheese side dish - not much flavor. We dined early so the noise level was very pleasant ... not sure what it would be like later in the evening. If we're ever in Montgomery again we'll go back for sure."

"I have always loved eating and taking out of town friends to Central because of the Ambiance... you don't feel like you're in Montgomery. The decor is stunning, the service has been mostly good, and downtown is a place to show off... I have always been confused and bothered by the waiter’s attire. It just seems so off from the mood and setting of the restaurant. I have always wanted them to be dressed in slacks, white shirt and skinny black tie, OR- let's be honest... anything other than jeans and a hoedown plaid shirt. It negates the beauty of the restaurant. I have found the food to be inconsistent. One person loving it whiles the other finding it nondescript. Calamari is PHENOMIANAL."

"We have been here for lunch and dinner and the food was really good. We took guest this past week and our food was fair at best. The fish taco were very fishy. The Cuban was lacking in taste. The french fries were barely warm and no flavor. My club looked liked the turkey meat was undercooked and the bread was hard. Our service was slow with a half empty restaurant. Chalk it up to a bad day but it will be awhile before we try again."

"Chef Leonardo Maurelli has made the food even more amazing. The evening menu has changed and the lunch menu tastes better than before. You cannot go wrong with any of the sandwiches at lunch and at dinner.. ANYTHING will knock your socks off. The kitchen looks great and seems happy and engaged. Sadly they still have lackluster service. I know who the manager is and although I'm there frequently I have never been greeted by him or had him come help when there is a problem. Central, please just get the front of the house figured out- I'm ready for this to be a place where I can relax and have amazing food and drinks.. not have to worry about the service I will receive."

"I have been excited about Central opening and attended the pre-opening event. I have eaten there a number of times including having my office Christmas party there and been very pleased. However, this last time was a bit of a dissappointment. We had taken our son there for his 30th birthday. The service was good as usual and we love the atmosphere. The food was too spicey with no warning from the wait staff. My wife could only eat half the pork chop. My steak frites was cool and dry (ordered medium)and I specifically asked if the bourbon sauce on the pecan tart was strong and told no but it was overwhelming. All three of us were dissappointed but the new menue may well be what other customers are looking for."

"This was our second time for lunch. The place has a nice ambiance but is a little loud. The service was particularly bad; all staff was in a big hurry and not very attentive. Overall, the menu for Easter brunch was too limited. My tenderloin was good, but not cooked as ordered. Roast potatoes were hard as a rock and tasted like they were cooked the day before and reheated. My sister ordered the flat iron steak, which came out not as ordered and was served with only a pile of french fries for an overpriced $17. I will probably try the restaurant a third time but not during a special limited menu event."

"Although we have had great experiences at Central in the past and their food consistently is good, they continue to struggle with very poor service. They make no attempt to correct obvious errors and are lapse in attention to detail. Despite the fact that they were not busy, we never received our appetizers, ran out of water and beverages twice, and rarely saw our server or any server at our table. Our server later told us that he "didn't have any help." Unfortunately, there are too many good restaurants including SaZa's in the same allyway that Central is located that serve great food and a great experience to waste more time on dining at Central."

"I ordered a burger and fries. It was cooked well but was nothing interesting so thought it was WAY overpriced. My friend ordered a fish taco that was so full of small bones she had to send it back. The server was gracious but I thought management was remiss in not coming over to apologize to her.

"Honestly, our experience was terrible. And I am a person who in the past has booked major business parties at Central in the past. The problem was mainly our waiter. He did not know what the specials were, he didn't know how the lobsters were cooked, he brought us one soup we had not ordered and another in the wrong size, he repeatedly said he was going to find out something for us, then forgot and took up with another table. It was kind of unbelievable. For the prices you charge -- and this was my wife's birthday dinner -- it's outrageous to use waiters who are completely at sea. He was completely incompetent and, to boot, several times disparaged other restaurant staff, saying that they weren't doing their jobs and so on. Amazing."

"This was our second visit to Central. Our first was lunch and the food was bland. This visit was dinner. The food was very good, but service was poor. As we ordered, our waiter discovered we had a menu 2 months old so he replaced it. When food arrived, 5 of our party of 6 were served. Our server never acknowledged or addressed the problem to us; I overheard him say to another server that he wrote the wrong order for the missing plate. When plate did arrive, he was slow to guess which one of us ordered it, when only one of us had no plate"

"This was by no means my first visit to Central, however it was my first lunch visit. Our seating was prompt and courteous. Our server was friendly but far from efficient. I took his advice and ordered a new entree and was pleased with my food, though I did think there could have been a more substantial portion of turkey compared to bread portion. My lunch companion ordered and enjoyed a pasta dish. We waited what seemed a little too long for our food at lunch, waited on refills, waited and waited on ticket and waited way too long to receive our card after payment. Our server was Chris and we dined on Monday, March 4."

"Central's appearance was aesthetically pleasing and creates a wonderful place for a romantic date. The food was very good and well prepared. The staff was nice, but i felt that our waiter seemed to speak as if coming from a script. He did try very hard to provide good service, but I think some training will be needed by providing education to the waiters on how to provide the service to exceed customer expectations and to help them understand the expectations of the customer in a place such as this. A few things that were noticed were that the customer's wine should be poured by the waiter as well as the glasses were noticeably left with the dish washing residue. We will plan to return and expect an even better experience! Kudos to Chef!"

"Food was great, service excellent. Only complaint was that our initial drinks were way too late in arriving at the table. Two in our group ordered Hendrick's gin martinis, and it seemed like maybe someone had to go out to find a bottle before our drinks were served. My amberjack entree was incredibly wonderful, best cooked amberjack I've ever experienced. There was a full house, and all was amazingly good considering the numbers of diners there that night. I'll definitely be back."

"This was our second time eating here. This time we brought a group of 10 for my wife's birthday. The service was very slow, it took the waiter 45min to bring us our drinks and then forgot one of our guests drinks and it took another 10min to get that. There is a brick oven that puts off so much heat in the dining room that we could not enjoy our meal for the sweat pouring down our backs. This was the second bad experience here and there will not be a third."

"I treat myself to good food and wine when I travel and this was great! I spent $45 on taxis each way to go there and felt it was well worth it! Modern, upscale but still maintaining an old restored building feel. With high ceilings, spacious feel, but still cozy. Although a solo diner, I was treated very well, the Chef even came to visit and sent over some extras. The menu was interesting, not too large, and everything was carefully prepared with flavors well-balanced and nicely presented. Good wine list, albeit CA centric, with many good wines available by the glass. Everything very fairly priced. This has to be the best rest. in the area. I would definitely go back. If in or even nearby Montgomery, don't miss it."

"The food was absolutely deliscious! Our server was very courteous and prompt, however it did seem to take the food quite a while to come out, even though the restaurant wasn't very crowded. The pork shank was wonderful! Definitely worth going back!"

"We love the place and the ambiance. This was our second time here and food was not as good as the first time. It was Ok - just not as good as before. We had a reservation but still had to wait because a couple of tables wouldn't leave. So, not really their fault and they were very attentive and provided complimentary wine while we waited. So great customer service."

"Not one of the more stellar performances by the restaurant. Bar tender was a bit surly but our server was fantastic. The manager made up for the deficiencies with complimentary drinks. The scallops could have been a bit cleaner and sautee'd a bit more. The fish was a bit over salted but all in all it was a pleasant enough experiece."

"Although I am not a food critic, the meal was excellent. This restaurant knows how to prepare food. The seasonings on all of the food was a perfect balance. Nothing overwhelmed or dominated my palate but it was scrumptious in terms of flavor. I was pleasantly surprised. This place is a gem. And the decor is just stunning."

"We had the herb half of chicken which was so tender and packed full of flavor. Also the ribeye was cooked perfectly and very tasty. But the Duck rolls with the ancho chili honey sauce just took first prize. Delish!!"

"They ran out of the first three items I was going to order. What I ended up with was great however. All the food was excellent and the decor is very nice. Kids are dine for lunch but only I'd recommend older kids for dinner. We will definitely go back."
