"This was our first trip to New Leaf and it was memorable. The food was very good and we had a very charming and helpful waiter, Jason. I would definately recommend this charming spot to friends."

"Oversalted food left a bad taste in my mouth. Not thrilled with the new chef. Appetizers came quickly, then a very long wait for entrees. Will think twice about returning."

"Treat yourself to some good food, beautiful scenery, and fine service! Take the A train north to 190th and visit the New Leaf Restaurant and Bar. You won't be disappointed. We just went there for lunch, and had the delicious shrimp salad sandwich and chicken Cesar Salad. Ed was our fantastic waiter. We sat outside and enjoyed the noon air, and were treated like royalty! We will definitely go back on our next trip to NYC."

"We live in the neighborhood and go here often. Brunch, lunch and dinner are always great. We often bring guests and they always comment on how wonderful it is. The atmosphere is different than anything else you'll get in NYC. Food is top notch. Service is impeccable. Is a hike for those who don't live in the neighborhood, but well worth it. And great to make a day of it with the park and the Cloisters right there!"

"New Leaf is nestled in the Cloisters. If you're seeing the museum, you should eat at New Leaf to make the day particularly special. New Leaf is a very pleasant dining experience. The food was excellent and the service cheerful. Prices are reasonable.
The only issue is that New Leaf is accessible only by the "A" train (if you're not driving). You can expect 45 minutes to one hour to reach it from many points in Manhattan if you're not located very close to the A train. Therefore, plan a leisurely day if you're meeting people for lunch. You're afternoon is shot. So take a stroll through the Cloisters and enjoy the gorgeous scenery.
Great place to meet people driving from NJ by the GW Bridge as an intermediate point. They'll appreciate it"

"New Leaf Restaurant and Bar new chef has added some wonderful new entrees to the menu including Brook Trout one of the best I have ever eaten. Soups here have always been delicious and the tradition continues. Come on Friday night and listen to live jazz as you dine in one of the prettiest restaurants in NYC. Staff is friendly and attentive. Bartenders skillful and fast. A hidden gem nestled in the middle of Fort Tryon Park near the Cloisters."

"I had never been to the New Leaf Cafe before. We went to see some live music on a Friday night. Wow, I had no idea a place like this existed in NYC. We felt like we were back in the 50s. The atmosphere was fun and energetic. The service was excellent. The food was pretty good, not great, but overall we loved the experience! We will definitely be back. And we'll bring friends. Everyone should try it!"

"We thought it would be convenient after going to the Cloisters, which it was. It turns, however, that this is not simply a restaurant convenient to a cultural spot. It's a lovely restaurant in its own right. Food was truly remarkable; service was perfect. The cocktail, of course, contributed to a great sense of well-being!! All was really good. Surprisingly good given proximity to the Cloisters. The Fort Tryon park setting made it even more lovely. it's worth a drive up (or even the bus). There were several families with young children. The acoustics were good, however, so they were cute, without being annoying noise-wise. All three courses were perfect."

"I have multiple severe food allergies, the most severe being gluten and corn. While the server could not tell me every ingredient in the dishes that I would be receiving, I did feel confident that he would relay my messages to the chef. So while in the end I felt a bit less control over what they were serving me (usually a waiter will want to clear the entire list of ingredients with me beforehand), everything went smoothly and they handled my allergies well. Everything seemed fresh and made from scratch. I had the skirt steak with parsnips and a wonderful salad with white grapefruit and a pomegranate juice dressing. For dessert, I had the homemade ice cream which, that night, was one scoop each of maple, banana, and vanilla."

"I grew up in the Inwood section of Manhattan, which is at the bottom of Ft. Tryon Park. The New Leaf Restaurant is located near Ft. Washington area at the top of the park. As a child, we would go into the restaurant, which, at various times, was a cafeteria, among other things. I was delighted to hear that it was being refurbished thanks to Bette Midler but had not had the opportunity to see it for myself. What a surprise! It has truly transformed into a real restaurant in the middle of the park. It is now a very nice place to start your visit to the Cloister Museum or just a tour of the park. While it was a chilly day and we had to eat inside, I am sure that, in warmer weather, the outside is a delightful place to dine."

"The menu changed which is not always a bad thing, but when we were asked how our meal was we stated definitely not the same. The waiter told us the chef changed, which in this case is a bad thing. Hopefully they notice the difference in quality, and do something about it. We aren't sure if we are going back. We will think about giving it one more chance since it was our favorite spot. May be it was just a bad day."

"The menu changed recently with a new chef and while the surroundings are still outstanding, the food is not nearly as good as it was. The new menu has more less expensive options but overall is much more limited and sorry to say, not worth the long trip for most to get there right now. My entree, fresh grilled sardines, for example, included three delicious small fish with a good salsa verde, but other than some over-mayoed cole slaw, it had nothing else. I long for the delicious seared tuna they used to have generously garnished with sauted vegetables and a couple ricotta ravioli."

"Restaurant is in a nice garden like location in Ft. Tyron Park near the Cloisters. The food was well prepared and enjoyable and the service was attentive. However, acoustics are not good. The wood and stone surfaces of the restaurant interior do not absorb sound. There were two large groups in the main dining room the evening we visited and the noise level was annoyingly deafening. Next time we'll eat outdoors weather permitting."

"Had a lovely lunch on a beautiful spring day. The weather was perfect, the food was spot on for a light meal, and Fort Tryon was blossoming into what will be its' full summer glory. It's hard to believe that this location is so easily accessible from mid-town. As always, I look forward to these visits which I make multiple times throughout the year. Highly recommended."

"Service was extremely slow, so slow,in fact, that we had to keep asking the waiter whether someone had lost our order in the kitchen. When the food finally came, it was ridiculously overpriced and very mediocre in quality. The portions were miniscule. The Shrimp salad sandwich was served on one slice of stale bread. The teaspoon of Shrimp Salad atop the stale bread was under-seasoned and tasted, to us, like camouflaged Tunafish. My Caesar Salad with Chicken consisted of a half cup of shredded lettuce with a half teaspoon of musty Parmesean cheese thrown on the surface. The 'Chicken' was a soggy, fishy-smelling very, very, very flat sliver of cold, wet chicken (the thickness of a crepe) lying soggy and limp on the bottom of the plate"

"This was a perfect way to usher in Spring. The outdoor seating is the way to go. Indoors seems gloomy, not too appealing. Our food was very good, a cut above any of the other local places but not over the top. Recommend the shrimp salad. Virgin Mary was outstanding, on the very hot side, perfect for lunch or brunch times. Our waiter, Mark, was a delight, very professional. Altogether a wonderful experience followed by a walk through the flower garden - wonderful sculpture exhibit and doggy heaven."

"Two of us ordered medium-rare steak. Mine was inedible and looked different from the other piece. The wait staff was nice, if not very professional, and my chair kept getting kicked by the servers. On the other hand, they did serve us a beautiful birthday dessert. I have been hear several time before, but I get the sense things are slipping."

"This time was a disappointment. The waiter brought salads same time as entrees (said he assumed we wanted that???). Dinner was just okay: the steak was tough, chicken was good but sweet potato pancakes were soggy and inedible. Definitely felt things were slipping."

"Located in Fort Tryon Park, the restaurant is in a beautiful woodland setting. We ate at New Leaf on a perfect spring day and enjoyed a wonderful lunch on the patio. Service was attentive and friendly. Our food was fresh, well prepared and presented. I had the salmon and my husband had the French onion soup and the Caesar salad. French onion soup was good and Caesar was huge and good but not your traditional Caesar. My salmon was excellent. We visited the Cloisters after lunch...good day trip!"

"This is a great place for dinner, but not for lunch. Our lunch there last week was a disaster. My son's pasta was inedible; insipid tomato sauce and a bad mix of ricotta filled ravioli with cheddar cheese on top. We sent it back and it took the kitchen over 30 minutes to prepare him a hamburger instead. Management then told us they needed our table since a party of four were coming in. They said they would give us a free beer to move but that they had run out of the Brooklyn Brewery Ale my son had been drinking. Even though management did not charge us for our beers or my son's food, it was an unpleasant experience."

"From the moment that my husband and I walked into the restaurant up until the moment that we stepped out, after a lovely dinner, we felt nothing but welcome. The wait staff was extremely helpful and attentive. The wine and cocktail options were not too extensive and we were both very satisfied with our choices. The Flash Fried Calamari as an appetizer was perfect. The sauce that accompanied the calamari, a mint-cilantro chutney, complimented the flash fried taste very nicely. My main course was the House Made Pappardelle which came with crisp, fresh vegetables. My husband had the hamburger with cheddar cheese. The meat was prepared exactly as he ordered, the cheese was melted just right. We were too full for dessert. Next time!"

"This restuarant is perfectly located near the Cloisters. The food is significantly of higher quality than most general dining experiences away from home. It is accomodatiing for my severe food allergies and sensitivities with extra care from the staff's assurance that all are knowledegable and very attentive. If raw foodies and vegans are concerned about eating out, this is a special visit. With the best experience, I highly recommend that this is a place that will be on my return list when I visit the cloisters again."

"This is a lovely place, with great ambience, in a beautiful location. The food, however, had the right inspiration but only average execution. A few simple improvements in attention to detail from the kitchen and you would have a place that was easy to recommend. Also the wine lost was extremely limited which wa a surprise given the "look"."

"It started with Daniel the bartender being warm, friendly, professional and makes agood drink. Then we went into the main dining room and met Holly who was the consummate server, all while being outgoing and giving. Then the food incredible! And even though we did not order dessert Holly saw to it that one was sent over, with a candle, as it was my birthday. Great place to celebrate it! We cannot wait until the warm weather when we will definitely go back for al fresco dining. One negative the only way in from the parking is the lower (service) entrance which is in need of a facelift. Not a good first impression but everything else was so wonderful it wipes that awa"

"A non-profit restaurant, part of Bette Midler's park project, only 3 blocks from an A train, about a block from a Manhattan bus. Wonderful, mostly local food. We shared perfect fried calamari, a delicate avocado and artichoke salad, and a superb crab cake., and all chose the same thing from the fourteen or so selections: duck roast (breast) with baked apple and grits and cheese side dishes--wonderful. Sorbets and maple cream brulee were outstanding.. We went in March, but I imagine in season it's exqusitie Lovely service,, intimate (only 14 tables) and soft jazz in the cozy bar on the night we were there."
