"I had been to the Bethesda and DC branches, and the food was not as good in Crystal City. Part of that might have been because it wasn't all that hot (as in melted cheese had hardened) because it took so long for our waitress to bring it. The service was incredibly slow-- after my daughter joined me, we waited half an hour before the waitress took her drink order, and then it took a long time to come. I'd hate to be there on a night when it was really busy (we were there on Wednesday). In addition, the instructions on the website about parking were unclear, so my daughter ended up having to pay $21 for parking. Of that, $10 was because she was 4 minutes over the 2 hour mark-- which she wouldn't have been if the service weren't so slow."

"This is a branch of the excellent, independent, DC tapas restaurant with the same name. This was my first trip to the Crystal City location and the food, service, and atmosphere were just as great here as in DC. A definite step up the chain restaurants that predominate in Crystal City. Tapas are small Spanish dishes that you can eat as an individual (although you will want to order several), but are best eaten shared with one or more other people so you can try more things. Two of us shared 7 items and all were tasty some extraordinary (the signature ham dish, the flank steak, spinach with pine nuts and raisins, potatoes bravas in a wonderful sauce, and bacon wrapped dates). It is hard to go wrong at Jaleo."

"We had the special "chef's tasting" menu. It was amazing! The chef came out to chat with us several times during the meal and provided a great sampling of the menu. We were stuffed by the end and it was probably over 2 hours for our meal. Great wine pairings as well!"

"Overall, it was a good experience & delicious, but there were a couple strange issues. First, we ordered a number of tapas for the table and then decided we wanted a couple more of a few items. When the 2nd versions of the dishes came out, it was as if they came from a completely different kitchen; different ingredients & preparations... both fine, but just hugely inconsistent. We also had to wait incredibly long for some simple scrambled eggs with cheese for my little niece, which just didn't make sense given the timing of everything else and the simplicity of the preparation. Finally, they ran out of pancakes, which is boggling given it was a Mothers Day brunch. I'll still be back, since I love Jaleo, but this wasn't their best."

"The food was tasty, the variety great. I don't think I will ever understand the cheese platter that has 3 wedges of cheese so small, each person only gets the smallest crumb to try, but everything else was lovely. I was able to add a note in my Open Table reservation that we were celebrating a birthday and they were very attentive to that fact, asking quietly which one of us it was, the wait staff quietly talking about it amongst themselves, all in anticipation of surprising my friend. It was great."

"I have taken visiting friends here multiple times and its always been a hit. Food is great and the staff always makes great recomendations. New on the menu was the "Jaleo Experience", if you want a custom multi-course experience, definitely try this. The chef discussed our food preferences, allergies and anything we wanted to try on the menu. It was great. Everything they brought us was excellent and the staff really made us feel valued."

"I have been going to Jaleo in DC and Crystal City for many years. The service was not as good as in the past and the prices have gone up dramatically. The food is still good, but they now have a policy of not providing bread except with certain dishes. When we requested bread, the waitress brought us a tiny portion as a "special favor." I lived in Spain and bread with the meal is normal in restaurants. José Andrés, give us back our bread!"

"I've been dining Jaleo Crystal City for 6 years; there's been an unfortunate decline in attention to detail. Food remains v.good. Service could've been faster. Jaleo no longer brings bread to table. Plates used to be replaced with each round . Zaytinya, another restaurant in the group, still does; so I was not pleased to use the same plate for 3 rounds--when the 4th round was brought, so were fresh plates. However, the previous plates weren't removed, so we had to stack soiled plates beneath the fresh ones. Sloppy.
If Jaleo is reducing plate use to save water & power, they should say so, as do green hotels which ask guests to reuse towels. If it's careless service, staff need to be kept up to a standard of fresh plates every time."

"The food was not as delicious as a lot of reviewers noted. I thought it was good but many dishes were too salty to me. The food was overpriced in my opinion. "Our first time at the Crystal City location. Big! Nice outdoor spot there. Food was excellent as always at Jaleo. Lots of great flavors. The two of us split 5 tapas - lamb chops, fennel/apple salad, garlic shrimp, grilled asparagus, and sauteed spinach. All were excellent. Our server was great too. Gave us lots of info upfront. "I opted to turn the choices over to the chef and the waiter by selecting the chef's tasting menu. The waiter asked for my broad preferences and for any limitations, e.g. allergies. "Jaleo was what I expected and didn't disappoint. It is very loud and the space is wide open so it is more conducive to celebratory gathering than it is a romantic night out. The food was very good but for a tapas place with small plates, I expected more on the menu.The service was outstanding. The server was very attentive without hovering. If you don't speak Spanish, some of the menu will need a little more explanation than the short description. It doesn't matter if you understand the description because it will be good."

"Although it is a "tapas" restaurant, we were not blown away by the tapas. We ordered the 3 different tapas: chicken croquettes, cod salad and garlic shrimp - I thought the garlic shrimp were a little oily for my taste; I liked the cold cod salad best. We shared a chicken and wild mushroom paella - delicious. We both ate the paella, then took half of it home in a doggy bag."

"I was entertaining a party of 8 clients. To avoid tapas ordering pandemonium I dropped by Jaleo early with a print out of the menu and the items I wanted highlighted. They checked to make sure they had the wine I wanted, and took care of everything after that. We arrived, sat down and within 15 minutes the dishes started coming. The food was fantastic. One thing we missed was hearing the dishes described in detail in an audible voice."

"This Crystal City location is by far the nicest of the Jaleos. The raised ceiling gives the place a fresh open energy and livens the mood. The wait staff were excellent. We had one of the sweetest waiters I've had in years in the States. It was so refreshing after a decidely downward spiral in wait staff quality in the DC area over the years. The food was yummy from start to finish. Some dishes were better than others as is always the case, so nothing terrible to report. We ordered the veggie paella after we'd already enjoyed several tapas. I loved the natural fresh ingredients. Nothing says fresh like a leafy herb stalk poking out of your food. Two thumbs up, Jaleos Crystal City!"

"The service was very good and the ambiance was great! The food, however, was mediocre at best. We had high hopes for the paella, our main reason for choosing Jaleo. But we were disappointed. There were 5 people in our party and no one enjoyed the paella. We order the seafood paella and the chicken and mushroom paella. Both tasted very salty. Other than the salt there was no other flavor to the dish or maybe the flavor was overpowered by the salt. Someone in our party stated it tasted like Rice O'Roni. The shrimp in the seafood paella was overcooked. We left unsatisfied and hungry. La Tascas in Old Town Alexandria has a more flavorable paella."

"Fantastic food and excellent drink selection. The food came out reasonably fast depending on the complexity and it was more of a constant stream instead of everything at once. That also means everything was nice and hot when it came out instead of sitting on your plate cooling off until you get to it. You want to be careful about how much food you order. They recommend 3-4 plates per person, but if you don't eat a lot, like my fiance, you will be bringing home a lot of leftovers. I'd suggest start with 5 options per pair of people just to be safe."

"The atmosphere is relaxed and stylish. The food is thoughtfully prepared and very good. The portion size for the price feels a bit small but makes sense given the style of cuisine and the quality of ingredients in play, and unlike most places. . . you can pace yourself to have room for dessert :-) Our server was very knowledgeable and helpful, and their business model allows the servers to act more as consultants - it seems they know the menu inside and out, they answer questions, and then other folks do the actual serving."

"I had a spectacular meal. Dining alone (in DC on business), I ordered the $55 chef's tasting menu. I expected it to be six or seven plates. Instead, they fed me until I couldn't eat anymore. They just kept bringing out dishes for 90 minutes straight. In addition to every bite being absolutely delectable, it was an outstanding value. In all, it was 15 plates plus dessert, and three of the plates were large vegetable dishes and another three were pretty significant sized meat portions.
I was absolutely psyched when I left the restaurant. It was so much fun, the food was so great and the value so tremendous that I couldn't get over the experience. Totally awesome job by the chef and waitstaff."

The seats are showing how worked out they are.
Our soups came out at different times so we could not start our Easter meal together.
Chicken Paella and Vegetables were super salty . Half of our party was unable to eat it.
The flan was the only thing that we were able to enjoyed and it was minimal.
We have to always try to get or waiter attention since he was always nowhere to be found.
I wish we would have order our Paella made to order formation Pepe. In Baltimore .
We traveled very far to try somenthing new and were left hungry regardless of the cost.
I'm not recommending this particular location at all.
I send an email to the General Manager and still not answer!"

"Food was great and waitstaff were very knowledgable. The tapas were great but it would have been nice for them to all come out at the same time. Some of the people in our party had two tapas while others were waiting on there first. Also, I understand the sentiment, but I would have preferred to serve myself our paella.
Overall, dining expierence was great and I will be going back soon!"
