DiNardo’s is the place to have your shell-cracking, claw-sucking, crab-eating feast. "I found the food to be not good at all . I ordered the broiled seafood combo the scallops chewy and about size of a quarter the shrimp were supposed to be jumbo they were medium at best. the piece of flounder extremely thin and small. It all was bland and tasteless. For 35.00 I felt ripped off.
I will not recommend this restaurant to anyone. Matter of fact I will share how bad my experience was to everyone I know."

"but not great. We both had clams on the half shell, which were excellent, and we both had the crab imperial, which was so-so. It had a lot of shells in it. We also had the special soup, which was crab bisque, which was good. It was very noisy and cramped. The staff got ready for a large party coming in to the table next to us and distrubed our dinner to vacuum and move the chairs around. They were nice and apologetic, though. I would go back for the raw bar or to buy crabs, but it's not a nice place to have a quiet dinner."

"Excellent service, great ambiance and date night location! Although their specialty "jumbo" crabs were a bit small, (I'm from Maryland and would consider that a large) the crabs were okay. They were not the great compared to what you get in Maryland but they are acceptable. The crabs were a bit undercooked.
My fiance got the dungeness crabs and he raved about them. They were particularly more delicious than the Maryland Blue Crabs. The fries were also amazing as well!"

"I was visiting a friend in Phila and thought we go for some soft shell crabs. Our waitress was very pleasant and informed us that it was a bad season for crabs so they were unable to get soft shells in yet (middle of May?) I decided on the crab imperial my friend had the broiled seafood platter. The crab imperial was dry, no sherry sauce, and my friend's seafood platter was overcooked. Shrimp and scallops were rubbery. We were too tired too hungry and tired to complain. I was disappoined to say the least. The last time I was DiNardo's was several years ago and the food back then was excellent. Sad to say I have no plans of going back in the future."

"I had a retaurant.com gift cert which is one of the reasons we chose this restaurant for Mother's Day. There were no restrictions on the gift cert, however, the restaurant would not let me use it because it was a holiday. The most popular item on the menu, the blue crabs, which my sister was looking forward to having, was sold out. The waiter was not the best, he was not able to remember things we asked for and we had to ask more than once. Overall, the experience was disappointing."

"My husband and I had dinner on a Sat. eve. - it was 2/3's full and very noisy in the back dining area, making it a bit hard to hear our conversation. The waitress was very pleasant, but the drinks we ordered took 10 minutes to arrive and our dinner order took 40 minutes to arrive. My meal was excellent - combination of crab, crab cakes, flounder and shrimp, making my wait worth it. My husband said his blackened scallops were good, but, average.
Staff is very nice and attentive. The atmosphere is family friendly, simple decor. The front dining room/bar area was much quieter and may be a better choice for some. This is not a romantic restaurant. DiNardo's is famous for crab. Definitely give it a try for the seafood selection."

"Traveling back to our hometown of Philadelphia, we definitely wanted to enjoy some hard shell crabs and we recalled Dinardo's being just the place to enjoy them. We were not disappointed!! Make sure you call ahead to be sure they have plenty of crabs as they can be slightly seasonal. Our simple family of 6 was treated like rock stars as soon as we arrived at the restaurant, including our son with multiple disabilities. The service was phenomenal from the moment we arrived. The food could not have been any better. We arrived with high expectations and left fully satisfied and eager for our next visit."

"We came here because it was "famous" and recommended for a special occasion. It was my birthday and there was nothing special about it other than the $300+ bill. They didn't even acknowledge that it was a special occasion for us other than a manager coming by to say happy birthday. We weren't looking for anything for free but some candles,sparklers, toast, happy birthday writing - something would have been nice. Even when we asked why they were famous we didn't get a good explanation other than to say they get crabs from the gulf. The whole reason we came here(from texas)was to get east coast seafood-so complete fail. Overall I would say a let down and an even bigger disappointment with a 3 star dining experience that came with a 5 star tab"

My reservation was made well in advance, and I spoke to someone the day of to confirm, ask about bringing in a cake-which is allowable,
and adding a person. The opportunity to share the fact that they would not have any CRABS, the reason our party was going there in the first place-was right then!!! Very frustrating that after years of pleasant experiences, things seem to have gone down hill. Also out of zucchini sticks!
All food ordered was fine and we tried not to let the fact that the reason we went there in the first place (crabs) deter us from an enjoyable meal together. Just call ahead the day of!!!"

"The night we were there (Tuesday night) they did not have crabs. Not sure how often that happens so you would want to call ahead. We ordered the Calamaria Appetizer and it was huge way more for the two of us. We have had a boat on the Chesapeake Bay for the last 20 years so we know our "Bay Cusine". The Boiled Seafood Platter was average, nothing special but the dessert was out of this world. If even asked about it and they said the Jamican Layer Cake comes from somewhere in Jersey, now I gotta go find it."

"I was to DiNardo's twice in a 2 month period. I was disappointed in the size of crabs. I ordered extra jumbo. They appeared to be only large. The food was just mediocre. Try other seafood houses in Philly!"

"Menu was very limited. My guests were not pleased. One chickan dish, two steaks and the rest of the menue was crab-fish dishes. One guess ordered the filet steak for 40 dollars, and refused to eat the side of brockley as it was over cooked and tasted very salty. The waitress delivered our glasses of wine and beer by touching the rims with her hands vs just the stem. So we all wiped down the rims. The Decor was out of a 1950 shore fish house. I had the clam chowder and it was tasty. Old fashion style. Cole slaw was also tasty. My wife had a crab cocktail and it was very good. My side of clams and pasta was also very good. Price was forty per person. Two pricy for us. I would try lunch first."

"What an odd Philly foundational restaurant. The decor is 1950s shore diner, the plates are plastic and the decor needing an update. Yes, the food adequate, but Philly is richer because of DiNardo's. This is the place to go for crabs, especially when looking for a meat-free restaurant during Lent. If your standards are the creative kitchens that are the norm today, relax and go for the ride. The corn crab chowder was thick, creamy and mild tasting. The fish of the day, tilapia, was nicely prepared with all of the sides. The jumbo crabs very spicy and getting them open to get to the meat made for a relaxed, fun and long dinner. The service is attentive, experienced and non-pretentious."

"Went last Saturday evening with my cousin for a Girls Night Out. Enjoyed my dinner. I ordered their NE Clam Chowder soup, it was good not great. The Crab bisque was the soup of the day & my cousin ordered that, she seemed to enjoy it. Entrees: Seafood Salad: shrimp, scallops, crab w/lettuce, tomato, red onion, cucumber. I have to say it was delicious even though it was $25. My cousin ordered the Broiled Stuffed Flounder which she enjoyed. Service was good, not warm & fuzzy but it's the city. Decor is dated but food is good. I will go back to try the crabs since that seems to be what Dinardo's is known for."
