Amber group of restaurants first location opened eighteen years ago in 1994 in Mountain View, CA and since then has been rated among San Francisco chronicle’s top 100 restaurants. Amber Dhara, Valencia Street, in San Francisco’s mission district is Amber’s sixth location. The vision of this restaurant like its counterpart in Palo Alto is to do seasonal, regional, ecologically sustainable, unique and a delectable menu with an extensive wine and cocktail list and friendly service. "We were greeted in a very friendly manner and introduced to the "Happy Day" cocktail menu where Happy Hour lasts longer than an hour. ;) The young lady that took our order down memorized a very lengthy order with no errors and full detail - which surprised our large group of 7! The food was excellent. I particularly enjoyed the chili naan, butter chicken and biryani. We will definitely be returning."

"They wouldn't let us get happy hour prices unless we went to the bar. So we had to leave the table and go to the bar. Being the only customers in the restaurant at the time, that can be a bit wearisome."

"Wow what a difference between visits! First dinner quiet as could be. We could chat away. This visit, the bar was going full tilt at 6 p.m. Were advised sound barrier would be installed...they really need it!
Food was excellent. Really enjoyed everything. Leftovers next day also delish.
Would not want to go back to visit until the noise is under control."

"The food was surprisingly really good and the ambiance was great - I had dinner with 3 other friends on a Saturday evening and it was a good pick. The only weird thing was the service - it was almost like they were overcompensating for the place being new... they were OVERLY attentive. We were laughing that maybe it's because we're just used to the lackadaisical hipster attitude service of the Mission, but it was a little irritating at one point. Otherwise, a great place to start your Saturday evening out."

"The food was very good starting with the flavorful crispy samosa for appetizer, the Nizami Gosht (lamb) was tender in an outstanding sauce for dipping the garlic Naan. Chicken tikka trio was very good too. Great service and will rocommend this restaurant to friends."

"Excellent food made with high quality ingredients. The Amber enterprise (incl downtown location) by far the best Indian restaurant in the city. It has a nice combination of traditional dishes and those with a modern spin (batter-fried kale with chaat spices). The fried okra is very unique and delicious as is the paneer. Their eggplant dish is also very unique with a almond sauce and intense flavor like no where else. There is also a good wine selection. I think for the high quality the price is reasonable. I wish they had more dishes that are mild so that we could go more often with our children. I think its an undiscovered gem as it is not full when we are there."

"Good ambiance but food/service can use some improvements. We had Sunday brunch - food was cold at 1 pm. Dal and Sambar were visibly not appealing, could use a bit stirring and some cilantro. Except the fish, everything was cold and tasteless. There were no bowls available for Dal, Sambar, curry or even khir. We requested mango juice instead of mimosa, it was totally watered down, what a disappointment."

"The new management is ruining the restaurant. This was a nice restaurant but after last experience we are not going back. New owner or manager was arrogant and short. She should not be in a hospitality business."
