Opened in April 1995, Lumi features Mediterranean-influenced Tuscan cuisine served in a charming townhouse setting on Manhattan’s Upper East Side.
Chef Matteo Temprerini earned a Michelin star for his previous work in Italy and his expertly crafted menu offers dishes based on his culinary genius coupled with his passion for the finest food of Tuscany.
Warhol art, banquettes, mirrors and sleek sconces on terra cotta walls in the main dining room create a chic, sophisticated yet warm atmosphere.
The elegant upstairs dining room is a gem of old New York: its high ceilings, antique chandeliers, fireplace with a striking mantle piece, bay windows and silk taffeta curtains, evoke romance.
Framed by wrap-around windows, the dining room adjacent to the bar provides additional seating at banquettes surrounding a marble fireplace. Lunch and dinner are also served at the full-service bar.
April - November, guests can enjoy meals at Lumi’s lovely outdoor cafe

"Had dinner at Lumi with my girlfriend on Valentine's Day. The experience was outstanding. The food was imaginative, appealing and promptly served, and the gluten-free aspect was scrupulously observed. The wait staff was unobtrusive yet responsive to every need. Surroundings in the upstairs dining area were elegantly appointed with a festive note for the day. We will be sure to return!"

"Hi, We had our booking for Valentine's night. Found staff to be extremely helpful and efficient. Menu looked really nice, I had ravioli in sage and pinenut butter sauce which was okay - not very flavoursome, bit bland and it was a very very small portion i.e. would have suited a starter portion. I then ordered the cheese plate for desert as I was still hungry - only one type of cheese arrived on it, no crackers provided with it and presentation of it a bit too simple. Also, the food, meal seemed to be quite rushed i.e. we were in and out in about 1 hour - probably because protions were so small we ate it very quickly! It was an alright experience, i.e. not bad but not great!"

"To enjoy the top-quality Italian food (like the especially tasty butterflied chicken with broccoli rabe) in a pleasant, quiet atmosphere, be sure to aim for a table in the upstairs dining room. Downstairs is for those who prefer a more boisterous bar scene."

"We werent very pleased with this place. Our first choice for an appetizer was not available so we ordered the muissels. The mussels were bad and we asked that they take them away. They offered to replace them and we refused. Later on we were charged $14.00 for the bad mussels. Food was mediocre and extremely overpriced. 2 entrees and an appetizer that was bad ran us up a bill of $100.00. Not recommended."

"We actually found Lumi just by browsing the internet. We were in the city for the weekend after Thanksgiving, so doing some prior planning I made my reservation a week in advance. I was supprised that not only were we seated early, but the table that I had requested was already set and waiting for us. The service was outstanding!! The menue and wine list were fantastic!!! A great place, wonderful ambiance, friendly and attentive staff!! We will be back!"
