The Front Room puts a modern spin on classic American diner staples, regional specialties and comfort food favorites. The restaurant bar offers a wide variety of espresso and coffee-based drinks, fresh pressed juices and an artisanal cocktail menu with a mix of classic and contemporary variations. The intimate space features a sleek mid-century design and covered courtyard patio overlooking Southern Methodist University. Located in The Lumen, a Kimpton hotel, The Front Room is open daily for breakfast, lunch, dinner and cocktails.
"What a shame!! My husband, three sons and I just returned from a late brunch at The Front Room. It was our first time there and certainly will be our last. While the food wasn't bad it certainly wasn't outstanding. The service, however, was the worst I've experienced in Dallas...that's really bad! The restaurant was basically empty when we arrived...maybe 3 or 4 tables filled. We noticed what seemed to be two managers on duty in addition to seven or eight servers. With ample staff and few patrons..we were left with empty water glasses, slow offers of refills of drinks, etc.. Our food took at least thirty minutes to come out and even then all three of my sons' orders were wrong. I would not recommend The Front Porch to anyone..."

"Good place for a business breakfast. Tables are a bit wide, but it's clean and food was all very good. A tad slow on refilling the coffee cups, but everyone was quite friendly. Would def go back except no self-park, and I'm not a fan of valet parking when they park the car ten feet from the checkstand."

"I was so looking forward to a great dinner at the Front Room since the menu looked great and the place looked like it had a good vibe. The only good thing I can say about it is, yes, the place does have a good vibe. Unfortunately, the food is excruciatingly bad. My husband couldn't even cut his meatloaf it was so tough. Seriously. Hard as a rock. I ordered the omelet with two cheeses and some onion and it came to me cold, hard and with very little cheese. The waiter was scatter brained and never came back to check on us; the place wasn't even busy! You'd think he would have noticed we barely ate our food, but he didn't even ask...a sure sign that people usually leave lots of food on their plates! Bad, bad, bad."

"Disappointing. Service was fine but the food was not. Went in for dinner on Saturday evening. The manager was very attentive and accommodating as was the server, but this could not compensate for the very food quality. The atmosphere was cold. Would be fine for breakfast but not a good environment for dinner."

"We both had the Eggs Benedict. Entrees were both lukewarm (ham was actually cold). Probably would have been much better served hot. At 9:30 in the morning we expected great food. Drink service and waiters were great."

"Have been to this restaurant twice--Brunch and Lunch.Had the same waiter both times. Less than attentive. Food average for a diner. Out of sweet rolls for Brunch and No bread offered at lunch with hot entree. Good location and very nice valet parking."

"Have been wanting to visit The Front Room so breakfast for a co-worker seemed appropriate. Each staff person was polite and friendly, greeting us with a genuine warmth and service. Will definitely return for another occasion."

"We arrived with an 11:00am reservation. We had to wait for a table for about 10 minutes. Then they asked us to walk towards our table and somehow they had seated another party at our table, instead of asking them to get up, they made us wait another 10 minutes for a different table. Once we were finally seated, we waited another 10 minutes and finally stopped someone to ask for a menu, silverware, and our waiter. We ordered our food immediately - waited 30 minutes for it and then mine was totally wrong. By the time my correct order came out my friend was totally done and neither of our meals were very good. I would not go back or recommend brunch."

"Went for brunch on a Sunday. It didn't seem crowded, but the service was slow. It took 40 min to get our food. My wife ordered their fried chicken which came in a basket that let a lot of the crumbs onto the table. It wasn't a problem until they took the plates away and never cleaned the table. It took another 10 minutes to get the check."

"The food was great, but the service and the initial wait at check in was inexcusable. What's the purpose of having a reservation? Waiter, Shawn, was very irritating."

"The service at The Front Room is always kind and personal. The menu offers a wide range of items including their amazing jalapeno cornbread with local honey butter and honey comb.
I'll keep coming back, and I strongly recommend you do the same!"

"Our group of five enjoyed the delicious food - Fish Tacos, Shrimp & Grits and the Scallops. We were impressed with the presentation, service & ambiance. We appreciated dining in comfortable inviting setting. The staff asked if we would like a tour of the hotel which we did....it was a special treat that was the "icing on the cake"."

"I was attending a Tate Lecture at SMU's McFarlin auditorium and thought it would be convenient. I also thought I would enjoy the interior design and the menu was playful. They offer a great menu but also a pre-fixe dinner for Tate attendees. The service was stellar and suggestions were spot on. I plan to dine there before upcoming Tate lectures."

"We made a reservation for five people and they had no table available for five. After waiting at the bar for nearly 30 minutes, the hostess came up and asked if we'd like to sit in a booth for four with a chair pulled up at the end. We had been waiting awhile and no other table seemed to be insight so we reluctantly took the table. It made the experience not nearly as enjoyable as it should have been, particuarly for my guest sitting at the end of the table who was regularly bumped into by servers and patrons walking by."

"Great diner theme with an elegant twist. We ordered short ribs and a pork chop which were anything but ordinary. The chef's abilility to take diner fare to a fabulous new level makes The Front Room a very special place."
