Pastis
Pastis is a French bistro located in Manhattan's meatpacking district opened by Keith McNally. Executive Chefs Riad Nasr and Lee Hanson and Chef de Cuisine Pascal Le Seac'h prepare a menu that combines hearty Provençal dishes with moderately-priced bistro fare. The bar serves a range of house cocktails, wines by the glass, carafe or bottle, and several varieties of pastis, an anise-flavored aperitif from the south of France.

"Pricey French bistro but generous portions of favorite dishes are superbly turned out. Like Balthazar, the staff operate like a machine making the above average prices worth-while all round.

"On arrival, the host let us know the table was going to be ready in less then 5 minutes and invited us to wait in the bar. The bartender asked what we would like to drink, and after talking it over, we opted to wait until we got to the table since it was only going to be a few minutes. The bartender then began pushing a drink order from us that I again politely said we were going to wait. He then asked if we were going to order something to drink at the table and proceeded to be "upset" that we would not have anything at the bar. His behavior was inappropriate with facial expressions and eye rolling.
The dinner was good. Wait staff was very attentive and nice. Food was good. Pastis seems to be relying on past notoriety."

"This was my third visit, the second with fellow "out of town" guests. I like to take people to Pastis for the atmosphere, and because I know the food is always excellent. Our most recent dinner did not disappoint.
We had a great table by the window near the bread counter, which provided a perfect vantage point for people watching. Everything was delicious (for me: bread, saumon fumé platter, the veal, the mousse au chocolat); my tremblement de terre cocktail was too much for my fellow diners(!); the wine was good; and the service was very attentive, thoughtful and smooth.
I look forward to going back."

"We (2 people) went late on a Tuesday night and each had a pasta dish and split an order of green beans. Perfect amount of food and all dishes really good. Plus we were 15 early for our reservation and were seated immediately. Really enjoyed our dinner."

"Lovely choice in a fun and vibrant neighborhood. The menu was perfect. The food (I had chicken and my dining partner had steak frites...) was to die for. And with a reservation, we were seated the moment we walked into this very busy, absolutely adorable restaurant. We loved the vibe and the wine menu. Our server seemed very distracted and wasnt quite as attentive as he should have been... but it was a busy Tuesday night. I will def be back on my next trip to NYC... may even plan a customer event there."

"I loved the Parisian cafe feel of this restaurant. It's a little piece of France tucked away in New York City. Reservations are strongly recommended. For this visit, I went during brunch. The restaurant was already bustling at 11 am. I would definitely return for lunch or dinner. I ordered the Eggs Hussard which were savory. My friend had the Eggs Norwegian. In addition, we both had La Fraise Cocktails, which delicious and simply refreshing especially during the hot weather. Our server recommended the Ile Flottante for dessert. Simply light and sweet but not overpowering. Service was on point and friendly."

"This was recommended so we travelled quite a way to try it - it would appeal more to the younger set as it has a trendy feel. The menu is not adventurous, but simple .

"The food was good, however the tables are far too small and you are seated very close to the table next to you. Every time someone walked past my chair I got bumped as space was at a premium.
The bread basket, starters and entrees all arrived at the same time and there simply wasn't enough room on the table for all the food so some of it had to be sent back to the kitchen.

"My husband and I have been eating at Pastis for years. We have always loved the ambience. You feel like you are in Paris. The hostesses are always accommodating when given our seating preferences. The service is always good. The food has always been delicious. We have always enjoyed such dishes as the chicken liver mousse, the steak frites and the creme brulee. This visit

"The scallops were perfect.

Our waiter gave us a special reason to come back to Pastis: his joy during our stay gave us a warm and cosy feeling.
I guess his name was Aaron. "It's a great restaurant, it's a great city, why not love being here?", answered him when I told him that we were very delighted for his cheerfull working mood.

"Went there for breakfast last week and had the worst coffee ever. The server even refilledy cup without asking so I had no chance to politely bring this up. Ok breakfast but overall a lot exaggerated rate for the quality on food and service.
This place doesn't deserve it's reputation.
Go elsewhere. N.Y is full of amazing places where you better spend your money."

"Travelled all the way from London, told to go to Pastis by a friend. Average food, poor service (40 mins for our food to arrive). Waiter said the kitchen had 'lost our ticket'. When we complained nothing taken off the bill. Had to speak to the manager who removed our coffees. Wouldn't go back."

"Its quantity over quality. A brunch factory with no soul. Orders come quick and they get ya outa there as fast as they can. We came early and were relegated to a yet empty dining room next to the washrooms to watch staff eat their meal and get a team briefing. Next guests squeezed next to us when all tables were free. Eggs Benedict were fine. Service formulaic. This place caters to one time visitors and doesn't care if people return...."
