"The service was exceptional at Kaya's from the moment we entered the door. Our appetizers of Crispy Calamari and Yucatan Hot Bean Dip were the best we've ever had. Our entrees were the Tropical Paella, Grilled Salmon Salad, Crispy Fish Tacos and Jerked Pulled Pork Quesadilla. They were all outstanding; however, the chef recommended that salmon be prepared medium-rare. That was too raw for us. Their freshly made limeade was refreshing. Their Delirium Tremens was too expensive at $11 per bottle. We ordered Creme Brulee and Strawberry Pretzel Pie for dessert. Desserts are not Kaya's forte. The creme brulee had hardly any custard under the glazed top and the pie was a dud. Mine is so much better. Overall experience -- delightful!"

"My wife and I took a weekend trip to Pittsburgh and could not pass this place up. It had great reviews and lived up to every single one of them. We consider ourselves foodies and slightly harder to please than the average customer but we walked away full of food and not regrets. If you are in Pittsburgh you would be foolish to eat anywhere else."

"My wife and I really enjoyed our experience at Kaya. The food was exceptional. The jerked Mani Mahi was one of the best dishes I've ever had. Our server " Bert" was first class. Every recommendation he made was spot on. He definitely made our time at Kaya more enjoyable. We will be back very soon."

"Kaya has been one of my favorites in the city for many years. From the first time I walked in the door and was hit with the creative lighting, open feel of the space, and friendly staff I knew that I had found a great spot to come back to over and over. The trapas are, in my opinion, the best part of the menu. Lots of choices with tasty twists on the idea of "appetizers". And the chef keeps adding a new one now and then to keep it interesting. This is a special place where even the ice cream tastes better! Don't hesitate to visit Kaya again and again."

"My boyfriend got a $24 entree with 3 types of seafood and there wasn't much to the dish. I had the pork quesadilla and it was all right but not alone. I had to add the sauce to have flavor. My friend's drink didn't taste much like grapefruit and it was part of the cocktail's name. Her husband like the Kaya burger. Service was good."

"What a great spot! I took my kids (they are *very* adventurous eaters--I don't wager this would be up most kids' alleys) and we LOVED it. Creative, freshly-made appetizers (we had corn & lentil beignets with green curry dipping sauce) and terrific drinks. My daughter's NO-jito (exactly what you think it'd be) was terrific, my grapefruit-basil margarita was smooth and delicious. Entrees--the Kaya Burger (a conglomeration of avocado, bacon, Chihuahua cheese, and a sunny side up egg), jerked pulled pork quesadilla, and flank steak with read bean purée, plantains, yucca cakes, ramps & asparagus--were all fantastic. Casual and fun and creative, I can't recommend Kaya more highly. GREAT experience & we'd go back in a second!"

"We have been to Kaya many times as its one of our favorite restaurants. This time we were celebrating my husbands birthday. For some reason we had to wait unusually long for our food. This doesn't normally happen here. At one point the manager came over and apologized and offered us complimentary desserts for both of us. We appreciated their concern and the way they handled the situation."

He was totally willing to help vegan-ize my food for me, even offering suggestions to help make a better experience for my mother and me. "We look forward to the monthly vegetarian menu. Since there are two selections per course, my wife and I each ordered a different one and switched plates and wine half way through so that we could enjoy everything on the menu. The featured vegetables of asparagus and cauliflower were beautifully and tastefully prepared for each course. The desserts, which did not contain the featured vegetables, were excellent featuring a non-traditional banana split and carrot cake three ways accompanied by a delicious roasted pineapple ice cream. Just great!"

"This was my first time at Kaya and I really liked it. The mahi mahi sandwich was everything it was built up to be. Other choices at the table included the pulled pork and banana sandwich; sounded odd but really worked and the bean dip appetizer (also reccommend). Great cocktail list, too. I love where the restaurant is located. A very vibrant area in Pittsburgh; can't wait to return when we can sit outside and absorb the fun atmosphere."

"The food was excellent, although, while speaking to the waitress about her suggestions I was surprised by her arrogance and general unfriendliness. Between drinks and food I spent almost $40 on brunch and really expected to be treated better. I will be back though, most likely because my scallop and chorizo omlet was out of this world."

"Kaya is a great spot if you are looking for a change from the standard Pittsburgh Italian-American-Fish-Steak menues. The Caribbean food is different, better, spicy, and fresh. The bar offers great, complimentary choices of drinks and wine, the atmosphere is casual and light, and service is professional. However, there is nothing on the menu for Gramma, except maybe the rum."

"Thursday nights are fried chicken nights!! Come hungry because you will get an ENTIRE half of a chicken on your plate. It's really something special. Definitely make a reservation if you are planning on getting a seat for dinner anytime during happy hour (5pm-7pm) because there is quite a happening bar scene. "Kaya is more of a loud bar scene than a place for a dinner with conversation. The food is quite good and drink selection is excellent. It is a small, busy place. Even with reservations we waited 35 minutes for a table which makes me hesitant to return. Service was slow despite having an excellent server. Previous experiences at Kaya were much better especially lunch where service was prompt, the food superb and the atmosphere suited to conversation without raising your voice."

"This was our first visit and we wanted somewhere that was close to Bloomfield where our friends from Mexico City were staying. My daughter works for Public Radio WESA and we understand that you are underwriters of the Big Burrito Chain. The reviews from the workers at the station raved about the food, so, we came. We were not disappointed. We sttayed unil 10 and had great food and conversation. Thank you"

"Atmosphere was energetic and modern, although it was a little on the loud side for good conversation when we got there. (Happy hour had just ended) Service was good but not excellent although as I said happy hour had just ended and there were a lot of people closing out which my explain it. I had the curry vegetables with tofu and it was fantastic. Everything was very well prepared and had great taste. My date had the NY steak and it was very good as well. She ordered med.-rare and it was perfectly prepared.
I would certainly recommend Kaya to anyone looking for a more upbeat dining atmosphere and great food.
Side note: We went on Thursday and the Fried Chicken special looks INCREDIBLE."

"First time in PIT, went to Kaya based on Open Table & Urbanspoon recommendations. Was very skeptical when we were walking down and trying to find Kaya as rest of the food places in the neighborhood looked quite sad. Kaya turned out to be a pleasant surprise - in terms of food, ambience and the crowd. Good drinks, expensive appetizers but decent entrees. I had the fish tacos and they were pretty good. Will definitely go back there."

"Like Mad Mex, Kaya skews toward a younger demographic than my own [65], so I found it a bit noisier than I would have liked, even though I didn't have great difficulty conversing with or hearing my dining companion. The service was friendly and enthusiastic, and the food was excellent. I had the vegetarian tasting menu; my companion had the chef's tasting menu; both of us had the respective wine pairings. Although this was my first dining experience with Kaya -- I've been to all the other Big Burrito restaurants more than once -- I'm sure the food will draw me back again. It was thoughtful, innovative, and delicious."

"Kaya's is our go-to/return-to Strip District eating spot. While our trips to downtown are not frequent, we almost always seem to end up at Kaya's for lunch, brunch or a drink. As we are frequent travelers to the Caribbean, we thoroughly enjoy the menu and try to choose something different with each Kaya visit. The drink menu changes and is also interesting. We tend to try at least one, or more, of the many options and are never disappointed. Service is friendly and attentive but not overbearing. For Sunday brunch, reservations are suggested or take your chances at finding a place at the bar."

"This was a delight for Valentine's Day weekend. Their two tasting menus were very well done. While some of the flavors were not my taste, they were nonetheless executed to perfection. The service was superb. The manager always makes it a point to check with each table throughout your meal to ensure you are enjoying your food and your service. I've been to Kaya more times than I could ever count but she is ALWAYS there with a warm smile ready to ensure you have a wonderful meal. This is not just a restaurant but an experience. The menu is always changing and is filled with unique and creative items along with true standards. I keep coming back to Kaya because it is never a disappointment. It is one of the top 5 restaurants in Pittsburgh."
