Little Country Gentleman offers fine dining with a sense of humor. Executive Chef, Mike Randolph, offers three tasting menus each night that draw on ingredients sourced from the midwest. Each meal is a journey and will include a good amount of eating and fun. We also feature a unique list of Old World Wines by the flight, bottle, or glass.
Each night offers a three-course, six-course, and grand tasting menu. Diners will have two options for each dish on the three-course menu. The six-course and grand tasting menus will be set. Modifications are politely declined.
Because of our style of service, we can only accomadate reservations of six or fewer.
"My wife and I ate the nine course meal with all the little and not so little extras that the kitchen threw in ie the new trout dish with edible head and bones, beef cheek amuse, and intermezzo drink. Overall we found the food to be so contrived that any natural flavours were lost in a myriad of textures that really weren't suited to be put together. The presentation of the food was so off kilter in terms of size and style of serving dish to portion of food that we were disappointed at each stage before even trying a morsel. IMO the chef needs to go back to basics and learn classic food marriages and to ditch all the foams. As to us we will stick to Niche, The Crossing, and Alinea."

"We had one of the best meals in our 10 years in St. Louis. We chose the three course tasting menu and added a cheese course at the end. It was all marvelous and the service was exceptional. One of our party does not drink but the bartender whipped up a unique and delicious appletini "mock tail". A 5 star meal."

"Little Country Gentleman is anything but little on flavor and presentation. The tastes and textures were surprising to my taste buds. One of the best dining experiences ever. The 3 course meal was perfect! You just have to savor every bite. I'm drooling just thinking about the mushrooms and fresh herbs."

"Our group of 5 went to Little Country Gentleman to celebrate a special event, and had the 3 course dinner plus dessert. Three hours later, we left after a lovely evening of excellent food, interesting wine and cocktails, and spot-on-service. The staff didn't hover, but were always available when we needed them (for either wine tips or to answer a question about one of the dishes). We came in as fans of molecular gastronomy, so we were prepared for the charism of this specific restaurant and weren't disappointed. Best dinner out ever."

"Reservations were at 6 they were not ready we were not seated nor addressed until 615. We did not want drinks since we were have the wine selection with our dinner. But they asked a couple of times what we wanted to drink before we had a menu. Then it was at least another 20 minutes or so before they took our order. Once the food came it was ok. The food was excellent, the wine selected for our meal was at best ok. If we went again I would choose our own wine."

"Exciting and delicious food on a 3 course tasting menu in restaurant that transforms itself from a popular breakfast-lunch spot in Clayton. Excpetional service with all people helping your table so you never feel you are left waiting for "your" server. Wish there was more light to be able to see the food and the menues without turning on the iphone. Expensive dinner, but worth it. Look forward to the menue change and we'll definitely go back."

"Food was great. Service was good especially the wine sommelier. Our waiter was good, the vodka straight up cocktail was not chilled. My partner has been in the bar industry for a long time and told him the vodka was warm. He said it was shaken but did not offer to take it back. We realize this is not a place to have cocktails but you should know how to prepare them if you sell them."

"The food was very good but portions are small plate so don't expect a lot of food. I do think it was very over priced for what you get. Probably one of the most expensive restaurants in Clayton. The restaurant is touted as fine dining but the atmosphere needs some help. There were no tablecloths - just eating on a wooden table top and drinking from mason jars. The service was excellent. In summary - over priced."

"There are small things about this restaurant that we LOVE (e.g. the nighttime changeover from Half & Half, the intimacy, the ambition of the prix fixe menu, the snickerdoodle at the meal's end). Unfortunately, we could not get over the cadence of the service -- we'd been seated for more than 60 minutes and only one course had been served (a thimble full of food, as it turns out). The enforced slow pace of dining, one size fits all tables, is annoying instead of elegant."

"My husband had chosen this restaurant for his 31st Birthday dinner. I had never heard of it before but we are always looking for something new and how glad am I we found this place! We didn't realize it was the same location as our favorite brunch restaurant Half & Half. The entire staff went more than the extra mile to make our night memorable. On our way home my husband and I recalled each dish, how everything was perfectly timed, and how amazing the service was. I had no intention of having a alcoholic beverage as I typically don't care for one. But whenever he offered free bubbly, I tried it and was amazed at how it was what I never knew I wanted. I then ordered a glass for the meal. We will be back. THANK YOU for everything!!!!!!!!"

"The restaurant itself had a simple, country, eclectic feel - nothing pretentious and trendy. We've passed by it many times, but never noticed it before. The staff was exceptionally knowledgable about the food and wine, and provided great service. We opted to do the 8-course meal, a MUST try! Every bite provided a burst of flavor and every course was delicious. The chef is amazing and is a culinary artist. We have already recommended this spot to many people and will definitely go back."

"This is a pricey place but if you love food adventures you must not miss the opportunity to eat here. You must be willing to leave choice to the chef and eat everything that is placed in front of you. Not for the "I can't/won't eat that" types. I ate foie gras ice cream for goodness sake! And it was delicious!"

"LCG is one of the hidden gems in St. Louis. While some other chefs and restaurants get James Beard notoriety for their food, LCG delivers an equally good if not better experience.

"We thought the restaurant was very overpriced. We also did not like the serving staff pushing liquor at any opportunity. I personally do not eat much and did not appreciate not being given the choice of a salad or something lighter. The size of the portions was excellent for me, but I was forced to accept two entrees and could finish neither of them. Conversely, my husband felt the portions too small. I guess I would say - not enough choices."

"Little Country Gentlemen was an interesting dining experience. The method of spacing out the three or eight course meal is understandable when you want to enjoy and savor each portion. However, the time between courses was rather long. It was a challenge to sit for 45 minutes with only wine and water to drink. It would have helped to have had some bread or lavash crackers to enjoy between courses, especially at the price of the meal. The snicker doodle cookies that came with our check was a nice addition and treat but could have severed a better purpose as some in-between bread. I enjoyed the food and unique preparation but if I consider returning for the eight course meal I might have to BYOB or BYOC."

"The best meal my wife have had in St Louis in a long time. Up there with some of the places we have eaten in NYC. Having been to Per Se, Daniel and Le Bernadin before, we really loved our experience here as the flavors in each dish of the three course meal were spot on. We will be back!"

"This is a fixed menu fare. The chef is a gastronomic genius. Can have the 3 or 6 course, we had the 6 and had a wonderful dining experience. This is the only menu available, so you can't stop in for appetizers or a dessert. The wine pairings were great discoveries. There were some that were new to us and they complimented the fare beautifully. The sommelier was as well versed as the chef. Definitely a place we will revisit."

"We went with another couple, and had the 8-course tasting with the matching wine flight. It was an exquisite experience, with much care and thought clearly put into the menu and the matching wines. My two favorite dishes were the sweetbreads (much to my surprise - I tend to avoid offal with the exception of liver, but this was wonderful) and the first course of raw tuna and local caviar with a fantastic gelatin ribbon of citrus. My one wish would have been for more savory flavors in the tasting selection - many of the dishes were dominated by sweet flavors, and I would have liked to have experienced more of the savory side of the kitchen's creativity."

"The food was excellent, however, it took a really long time to get through all 8 courses. We were there for almost 4 hours. Our server was excellent and I dont think it was Meg's fault that the kitchen was maybe backed up, but that definitely took away from the experience of the meal."

"What a wonderful addition to the St. Louis food scene. I've eaten here twice in the last week, and the food was consistently innovative and superb. The creative cocktail menu makes it so hard to choose, but I don't think you can go wrong. We did 3 courses on our first visit and 8 courses on our second visit. Both meals were jaw-dropping wonderful!! The chef graciously accommodated my dietary restrictions, and I never felt deprived on account of those restrictions during a single course. If you enjoy amazingly good food, this is the place for you!"

"We did the 8 course, $84 tasting menu. We also chose to have the $70 wine pairings. The food came out so slowly that the wines weren't matched. There was 30 minutes between morsel's of food- a 4 1/2 hour dinner. The food was interesting and delicious, but too little food for all of the wine. The wines were off beat, unfortunately, too off beat. Often we had to ask what the wines were, instead of being told. The timing needs to be outstanding for a tasting menu with wine pairings of this magnitude and price to work."

"The food was extremely creative and amazing. They specialize in small portions that are very focused on bringing together a variety of flavors. There was a lot of service staff and our waiter was good the support staff could be more attentive. Cocktails are also terrific but high priced - 14 or 15 dollars each for things off of their specialty list."

"One of the best meals we have ever had--in St. Louis or outside of it. The cocktail menu is imaginative and innovative. The wine steward has some interesting pairings for the great dishes. We did the 8 courses with wine. The food was detail oriented with some interesting combinations that support the 'mystery' course names on the menu. Staff was knowledable, just the right amount of friendly and attentive. Will definitely go back and would highly recommend."

"We were really looking forward to our dinner at Little Country Gentleman. When we sat down, the waitstaff ignored us for the first 10 minutes. We opted for the 3 course menu, figuring we would come back for the 8 course if the meal lived up to the hype. The food was delicious - but overly complicated with too many flavors, and tiny portions. The waitstaff had trouble remembering everything that was on the plate when it was set in front of us. We loved the steak tartare starter, and the skate wing. The drinks were to die for. We had one served with a smoke canopy that came out with a flourish and the delicate balance of smoky flavor was truly impressive."

"We were celebrating a birthday at Little Country Gentleman. The food and the service were excellent. We started with a cocktail which was very creative and tasty. We had the wine flight with our dinners, and it too was very good. The dessert course was perfect, we had one swee treat and a selection of cheeses. I will reccommend LCG to all my friends, kudos to bar tender Jeff, Mike Randolph, Dale, Chip and the rest of the staff."

"This new restaurant where half and half is in the morning is not to be missed. Remarkable attention to detail. The kale soup and scallop with chamomile were remarkably good. Goetta with the quail was an interesting paring. The foie gras ice cream was delightful. Wine parings were good and worth trying although all European. The portion sizes are small but not an issue at all with the 8 course menu. For a less filling option the 3 course would be fine. The service is good. Price is on the high side for STL but you get what you pay for."
