"I Love Pizza !!! I love thin crust pizza, and Apizza Scholls' pizza is absolutely stellar. I've only had two kinds since I've been going, and I can't past the pepperoni pizza and the capicola pizza. Their pizzas are so beautifully prepared, the crust is so crisp and thin, and the ingredients so fresh and flavorful, no one else can compare. Their salads are huge, and there are many, each meant to serve at least two to three people, but I will eat their Caesar salad by myself. They have a very nice wine list, the service is good, and it's not a fine dining restaurant. But, If you like thin crust pizza, you MUST experience Apizza Scholls. Their Pizza Is The Greatest !!! You won't be sorry. . . You'll thank me !!!"

"The pizza and Cesar Salad are top notch, but both times I have gone, our waiter has been brusque and unfriendly. I chose this restaurant to celebrate Mother's Day because my 6-year-old son likes pizza and I thought a pizza place might be kid-friendly. While there were other kids there (I had a 5:15 reservation), our waiter seemed put off by children.
However, the pizza is delicious. I am hoping that my server is also an owner/chef because I find it hard to believe he was hired for his people skills."

"Apizza Scholls is focused on their New Haven style pizza, which is thin but still slightly chewy inside while being crispy on the outside. My pizza had fresh basil on it, which smelled fantastic when the EIGHTEEN INCH PIZZA appeared in front of me. Unfortunately, they have no smaller sizes than that, so I got to eat this pizza for three days in a row, since I dined alone here. Additionally, they have birch beer, which people from the Pennsyvania area will recognize as a rarity anywhere outside of the Northeast. The service was fine, the dining area was oddly split apart, and the area is difficult to park in, but this place is again all about the pizza. And it's worth it for that alone."

"Love, love, love Apizza Scholls. Everything was fantastic, but if you are going to take home leftovers, make sure they put them in a box!! Our server cut the pieces and stacked them on top of each other cheese on cheese, completely ruined half of our delicious pizza."

"Although the pizzas were very good, but considering the hype about Apizza Scholls since they first opened, I was a bit disappointed. The dining area has no atmosphere. Wine list is scanty and when going as a group it would be nice to taste a variety of Pizzas, the 18" pie limits that. They would do much better offering smaller pies of 12-14" to allow people to sample more choices in one outing. As a side note, the left over pizza loses its texture the next day even after reheating. So order only what you can eat at the restaurant and don't bother with left over. The pizza is great when first baked and served. The service is average."

"One of our favorites, we come often. The Ceasar salad is a must--uniformly excellent continuing to be the best that I have had in Portland. Had the special--meatball and onion--could have used a few more onions but the crust, sauce, garlic and meatballs were, as always, excellent. They now take reservations on Open Table which eliminates the hour wait. We have never arrived with a reservation and not had a table waiting for us."

"First time visitor. Easily made a reservation on their website. Our table was near the back. Kinda crowded together. Thankfully the 2 babies at the next table weren't screamers, or I'd have left. Service was friendly. Ordered the mixed antipasto plate (over-priced for what you get) and the Bacon Bianca pizza. Lots of American bacon! Good, but odd flavor. Not typical pizza. Crust was more chewy than crunchy. Moxie soft drink was another first. Good, but odd flavor there, too. Pizza only comes in one size, so we had plenty to take home. Next time we'll try a "normal" pizza like cheese and sausage to see how that compares to typical pizzas served elsewhere. Over all good, but not sure it measured up to all the hype."

"I got to know about the place from Anthony Bourdain's programme. So I was expecting a good pizza. We got one pizza with two favours: amore and truffel. The quality was superb and it surpassed my expectations. We are from Malta and this pizza was close to the top pizza place in my island. Well done."

"We have finally decided to eat 90% of our pizza here! (The other 10% is when we are starving.) This really is the best tasting pizza for us. We had a half plain / half pepperoni, which was absolutely delicious. The service is very pleasant; they really hire good people. Interestingly, it was the night of the NCAA Men's basketball championship game, and it was still very busy."

"We went to Apizza Scholls in 2011 and I had been dreaming of this pizza since. We were very happy to be able to make a reservation, but I would have gladly waited in line an hour for their pizza. I visited Italy recently and this is equal to theirs. Clean favors , pure ingredients! Wonderful."

"Having never been here before, I wondered if it could live up to the hype in the press. Yes, it did. Pizza is delicious. You should try it if you haven't already. It's worth the wait. We thought the value was good as well - the pies are huge."

"If there were a category for "super favorite", Apizza Scholls would be on the list. We love the pizza. We started with the cesar salad, which can easily be shared by 2 or 4. We had a plain pizza, sausage & olive and the tri colore. All of them were -- as usual and expected -- excellent."

"Some of the best pizza I've had. There's some quirks to the place about seating availability and ordering because they are usually busy. I went at 4pm (opening) on a Sunday and while there was a line that got seated immediately, and I had a reservation, I believe most other days there would a long wait. Suggestion is to get a reservation. Portion-wise, a salad (comes as a large bowl) and a pizza is definitely enough for 4 people, unless you have big eaters or want leftovers then get two pizzas."

"I was introduced to Apizza Scholls by friends, one of which was from New York and who had lamented the fact that there was no pizza to be found on the west coast to rival that of the Big Apple's, until he went to Apizza Scholls. He recently visited NYC, and on his return said that the pizza at Apizza Scholls was better than he found back home. I thank him for introducing me to Apizza Scholls and have since introduced two sets of friends, and intend to do more. All I know is that their thin crust pizza is the ABSOLUTE BEST in the area, and their Caesar Salad is WONDERFUL !!! I shall return again, and again, and again.
Nola"

"Everything looked so good on the menu, but we are a bit traditional in our pizza flavors and decided to build our own (pepperoni, sausage and black olive). I added a caesar salad to round out our meal. The salad was fantastic! The romaine is served a bit rustic (leaves are not torn, huge peels of parmigiano and large house-made croutons). The dressing is a bit bright and balances well with the flavors of the pizza. And on to the pizza. *drum roll* Wow. The pizza came out with a wonderful smokey smell (from the oven). The crust was pretty thin and very tasty. The sauce was amazing. Very flavorful and fresh. Best sauce, hands down, I believe I have ever tasted. If you are going to try Apizza Scholls, do try the reservation app on their websi"

"Apizza Schools cares about a well-composed pizza, and I love them for it. Their dough and crust are amazing, and the toppings always hit the spot. The staff is friendly, and attentive. As ex-New Yorkers, and ex-San Franciscans, we love the place. It's our favorite pizza in Portland!"

"The pizza--there are no words to adequately describe these pies. Every aspect is amazing! The crust is both crisp and chewy, with a beautiful char. The cheese is gooey and rich. The tomatoes are bright, and the amount of sauce is just right. The house cured meats absolutely blew my mind--the ham is deeply smoky, with just a hint of sweetness, and the capicollo is salty and spicy. The only lackluster topping was the pineapple, which lacked freshness and imagination (suggestion--thinly shave against the grain fresh pineapple, quick pickle it, and possibly flash it in the oven). And the pizza makes the noise and the wait worth it.
Advice to diners--make a reservation. Walk-ins will wait, especially on the weekend. But it's worth it."

"After a lot of hype I finally made it. It was overall good pizza. Nothing amazing or worth the wait but fun to do once and experience. If you are from the east coast you will not be impressed by this pizza."

"For the curious "Apizza" denotes New Haven (Conn) style pizza. Which is a close and worthy relative of NY style pizza. If you are used to a large combination from Papa Johns or the 3 meat sicilian special from Pizza Hut do NOT consider going to Apizza Scholls. If you are an east coast purist, this is the place"

"We made reservations ahead of time to avoid having to wait for a table. When we arrived and gave the waiter our name he verified that we had a reservation. After checking the dining rooms the waiter stated that customers were just leaving and that we would be seated promptly after the table was cleared and cleaned. . . Well, we waited . . . and waited . . . Wondered how long it takes to clear off and clean a table for 2? My partner went up to the bar to ask if we were forgotten, only to be told it would be just a minute longer. We finally were seated and ordered our food. This is the third time we have visited your restaurant, although this third time wasn't a charm. Not so great of a dining experience that night :("
