"My family and I went to Katsuya for a special occasion. We had the omakase (chef selection). The first dish was amazing (don't miss the crispy/creamy shrimps), but I was not not too crazy about the robata grill skewers. The service was very friendly."

"The food was nothing to write home about and the service was less than desirable (waitress had a poor attitude and couldn't be better at showing us that she really didn't care). However, that being said, the ambiance was wonderful and the people-watching was great. The miso marinated cod was good but the rolls disappointed!"

"The food here is great, but small portions, big prices. Tables are very close together, very small, music loud, very noisy. Service slow -- we felt forgotten and had to remind the waiter to bring dishes. Dishes come out quickly and are delicious. Great cocktails. The food here is the star, everything else is typical SoBe -- and quite a scene on the way out Glad we went, not rushing to return, though."

"We we staying at the SLS Hotel and my wife loves sushi, so we booked a dinner there on April 27, 2013. It was our anniversary. While I am a "foodie", my wife is not. This was one of worst restaurants either of us have EVER been to. The wait staff did not understand the menu, and could only explain it as "Guys, everything is in small portions and is meant to be shared. That's what is hot right now in Miami, so that's what we are doing too." When we asked her about the Sauted peppers and asked if they are spicy she said, "Its risky. Sometimes they are hot and sometimes mild, so its a gamble." They need to shut it down and re-open as another concept. Amatuer hour. Pure disapointment. We had to leave half way through. The food was horrible."

"I made a reservation here weeks ago for 8:30.We arrived on time and were kept waiting for over 45 minutes before they sat us.When we checked in,they said it would be just a minute. Some of the menu items were very good and some were just OK. It is expensive.It is so loud in there you can't hear a word across the table.It is a trendy hot spot so it is to be expected.One unexpected negative-the valet parking charge was $30."

"We made a 11pm Saturday night reservation, but we weren't setted untill 11:20 though we checked in with the hostes at 10:45. The hostes seemed a little over wheeled and un organized because even though we were setted at a couch by the bar by a hostess we still got 3 calls from the hostess telling us the table was ready. The food was good, the prices are what you expect at a hotel that charges 18% percent on your bill weather it's at the bar for a drink or for dinner for two, I understand its south beach and they do it because of the tourist but at the bar 45 for two drinks it's pretty bad when it's only ok."

"Very average, not worth the expense. We ordered yellowtail sashimi w/ jalapeno (which is way better at our hole in the wall local sushi place), crispy rice with spicy tuna (good), robata eggplant (good) and miso marinated black cod (not good). Black cod was too salty. I have had far better in many places. The portion size was actually better than all of the other dishes, so relatively better value and it came with little side tasting portions which were better than the cod (bok choy, crispy potato, and cucumber salad). Also they have an enormous waitstaff but our water glasses were always empty and it takes a long time to get drinks from the bar since the server has to go upstairs to get them.
Overall, underwhleming and overpriced."

"It was very quick dinning, the kitchen was closed by midnight! they put us for dinning 11:40 pm, the hostess was not friendly , we had been served quickly and by 12:15 they gave us the check , for $230.00 dinner was not pleasant experience. they should not sit people at 11:30 and kick them out after 20 min! very unpleasant experience!the waiter and the server were very nice ! butwe were not enjoy the late booking and quick dinning!"

"I have eaten there a few times this winter and the food is very good. But having a 9:30 reservation, being told your table would be ready in 10-15 minutes when you arrive on time, being told at 10 that you were next and they would get you shortly, and then to be told at 10:15 that your table was ready only to find that you had to wait until10:30 because it wasn't, makes it a bad experience and not one you would want to repeat. To their credit, they picked up the bill but that was after the hour wait and then forgetting to bring one of two diners their first course."

"REALLY bad service. They brought the coffee cold although we waited for it for 1 hour. They brought the milk frozen ! The waiter was so irresponsible, he was looking and talking with some other waiters while we are trying to order or trying to complain with the bad service.(as I observed every waiter was like that) I have been to all Jose andres restaurants all over the world. This was the worst ! I'll never go again. Very average, trash restaurant. You pay the same amount money with Zuma and you get trash. REALLY BAD EXPERIENCE."

"The service was not organized. My wife had her entry and her main course before a got my starter. As I asked the waiter they managed it to bring it twice. The guys next to our table had the same problem, so I guess there should be really some new organization. The food was great and tasty. The music was way too loud, felt like being in a club."

"I was very exited to go to the new restaurant at SLS Hotel Katsuya , but when we came in and got the table for 2 people we were upset . Because all tables are so close to each other that you don't have any privacy. And it was my romantic dinner with husband . I was not impressed with the design either and the ambiance was not that great . I can recommend that restaurant only for casual dinner on weekday ."

"Arrived early to a busy and disorganised host desk, was told table might be 10 -15 minutes and it was suggested we went upstairs to order a drink. Upstairs bar is dark and night clubby, service was poor, ran out of coke so only received half an order. After 20 minutes went back down stairs to same chaos. Was told table was still not ready even though restaurant had empty tables. after waiting half an hour was hungry and bored and went elsewhere"

"Very professional service who knew the food and are able to guide a novice to an amazing culinary experience. Food was "top drawer". The dessert offerings were a little weak in comparrason to the rest of the menu, but we did not go here for the desserts....we came to taste the rest of the menu....and it did not disappoint."

"This was my first time eating here and I loved it! We were seated quickly the waitress was very helpful with recommendations. Normally I don't eat too much sushi so we tried a lot of new things. The Crispy Rice with Spicy Tuna was great! Spicy Tuna Roll and California roll were great you could tell it was fresh and not your standard local Japanese food. Upstairs was very dark but more space downstairs was very bright will close tables. Overall really good. Good drink menu also."

"Frankly...the place is uncomfortable with inexpensive wooden chairs. While you are informed that plates are small, there's no way this is a good place for large groups as you'll have to order two of most things. It's difficult to time when things come out, and as a result, we received our "rice cake" well after we had anything to eat it with. And the poor timing/coordination throws off the momentum of the evening. Also, as it got busier and the trendier later crowd came in...we must have switched servers four times. The wait staff either didn't clear plates in time or took plates away with bites left which since portions are small to begin with we didn't appreciate this. Also, the bar drinks are weak and masked with the fruit juices."

"The food here was awesome, try the fried rice spicy tuna! Our server was nice & so busy. My husband & I couldn't hear eachother, not great for talking, just eating. Music was blarring & chatter was loud. Another diner told us it was worse before they put drapes on the walls. The table layout is cramped. The perimeter of the room is a bench so your date must sit across from you with back to whole room. It seems that you would both want to be able to see the room and admire the design as that is part of the experience. Maybe the layout was done to maximize seating but think it would be better with less tables and just made more exclusive. Our server kept bumping the table next to us when he served/spoke to us because it was so tight."
