"Our family of 10 visited Michael Forbes for brunch on Mother's Day. Despite it being a potentially busy day, the restaurant seemed very calm and accommodating. The brunch had an incredible variety of outstanding food choices and was very reasonably priced. We look forward to returning!"

"We arrived 5 minutes before our reservation time to find the hostess had mistakenly given away our reservation to another group of 5. It was Mother's Day dinner and very busy. After about 20 minutes she was able to seat us at a 4 top booth with a chair pulled up. We were very tight and had to juggle plates and space all evening. Our server was fun, but very busy, and drinks and special requests (like lemon in water) were forgotten. My niece ordered the steak and they were out. The food that did come was good. I don't think they were at all prepared for the busy night and I was very disappointed that our reservation was not honored and we were squeezed in to a very tight space. It was our first time to eat there."

"After reading the reviews I was skeptical and was not excited to eat here. Don't know why there has been any poor reviews. We were greeted as soon as we walked in the door by a smiling waitress who seated us immediately. She became our server. Drinks came super fast. Had a side salad, which was wonderful. All kinds of different lettuces and many toppings, their salad dressing of honey mustard was the best I have ever had! I ordered prime rib well done, yes I said well done. Most places will still bring it rare but when mine arrived I was thrilled,it was cooked the way I WANTED IT! My husband had the salmon sandwich, he loved it also. I did not think it was decorated by a grandpa as one reviewer suggested, I love the decor. will be back!"

"Michael Forbes was a favorite of ours many years ago in its original location. When we received a Groupon ad recently, we decided to give it a try.
This restauant seems to be a neighborhood favorite. We ordered 2 of the nightly specials, Scallops and prime rib. In short, my wife did not like the scallops because of a strong fish smell. The scallops with the orzo just did not work. The prime rib was Ok except that it was finished on the grill to bring it to a medium rare.
The wait staff seemed quite competent and the Manager was very nice. They understood the problem with the scallops.
We will probably try the restuarant one more time before writing it off."

"This was our first and most likely last time here. We went for Easter brunch, which was $19 per person for a buffet. The service was terrible. The server was awkward, greeted us poorly, didn't check on us, and the dropped the check on the table after we had just sat down with one plate of food. The food was below average to poor. It all tasted like it was from a box or can, and the selection was poor. The value for what was paid was poor. The salmon was never refilled, the ham was fatty, the grits were watery, the bacon saturated in grease, the pancakes were dry and tasted like a cheap mix. There were no drinks included; it was $2.10 extra for a cup of coffee with no refills. Don't waste your time or money here."

"I was happy to be able to make last-minute reservations for Valentine's Day. We generally don't dine out on VD, but it was nice to be able to this year. Not having to travel far was a benefit as well... good to have the restaurant in the neighborhood. Our service really helped to make the dinner more enjoyable... "We had no problems getting last minute reservations. Our server was very knowledgeable and personable. The service was perfect for a Friday night. Food and drinks were top notch and we would highly recommend the Cold Smoked Trout for an appetizer. We live 200 miles from KC so we don't get there too often, but when we do, we make it a point to have dinner there."

"The Brookside neighborhood boasts several great restaurants, and Michael Forbes Bar and Grill makes the decision of where to eat even more of a challenge. A great place for families or a couple/date night meal. Bar service nice and accommodating. There is history in the establishment, and the menu has some throwbacks to it, some traditional and some with a twist. The Pot Roast soup was delicious - very much a comfort food. Homemade style rolls brought to the table still warming in the pan - mmm. The fried catfish is perfectly de-boned at the table, as advertised (quite a sight to see, really tricky to then go and do it!). We enjoyed sea scallops with spinach crepes and Sicilian pork chops. Just right for a nice meal!"

"Dont bother with making reservations because they are completely ignored. Were 5 minutes late due to inadequate parking facilitiess and had to wait 20 minutes for a table. Other diners that came after us with rservations were also told to wait in the bar and they would be callled in 15 minmutes or so. The waiter was totally unfamiliar wuth the drink options. This place needs serious help. We've been there twice, first and last time on the same evening."
