Restaurant Reviews for Trece

Trece reservations Trece

4513 Travis St.
Dallas, TX 75205

Trece, located in the fashionable Knox-Henderson neighborhood, is the premier "Alta Cocina Mexican" restaurant and Tequila Lounge in Dallas, Texas. The kitchen is directed by Executive Chef Ruben Peck, formerly of the famed Mansion on Turtle Creek Hotel. Peck spent his last 5 years as the Sous Chef to Amador Mora. His new Mexican cuisine is a beautiful combination of native Mexican products, delicate sauces and vibrant, robust flavors. The Dallas Morning News gave Peck four and a half stars and called Trece “One of the Best Restaurants to Open in 2006.” The restaurant is a sleek combination of contemporary Mexican architecture, juxtaposed off of warm colors and commissioned Mexican art work. The casual elegance of the restaurant features several dining venues; the formal Dining room, the Private Wine Room, the Glass Enclosed Terrace, an energetic Tequila Lounge featuring 120 varieties of Tequila and the Outdoor Patio, equipped with fireplace.

Overall Rating 4.0 out of 5 (Very Good)
"Trece happened to be running a special 2-course meal for FREE. Usually the choices are very plain jane but these were right off the menu, very nicely presented, a good variety of choices, very filling. The restaurant was very busy when we arrived, but they honored our reservation and seated us right away. Service was impeccable! We will definitely go back, even if the meal is not free."

"We had a group of 17 and we were well taken care of. The food was outstanding and everyone at the table was very pleased. The waiter had plenty of supporting staff so we were never in need of anything.

Review 4 for Trece

Overall Rating 5.0 out of 5 (Outstanding)
"I really enjoyed this experience. I had a Monday night dinner (excellent deal!) Our server was very knowledgeable and explained everything in great detail: food, prices, tequilas, etc. I will absolutely return at another time of day. There were children from about 4 yrs old and above there, and there was no cause for complaint. The atmosphere is wonderful."

Review 6 for Trece

Overall Rating 1.0 out of 5 (Poor)
"When the time came to place our order we ordered two appetizers (table side guacomole & lobster nachos)along with with our entrees. The guacomole came out first and it was absolutley amazing, but we were wondering where our other appetizer was. After about ten minutes passed our waitress stopped by to check on us and finally informed us that the Lobster Nachos we ordered were sent to the wrong table, but that they would have another one at our table ASAP. This was no big deal, we understand that mistakes happen. Once we finished the Lobster Nachos we assumed that our entrees would be out shortly, but we were wrong. It took Trece a good 45-60 minutes to finally get our entrees to us after we finished our appetizers. We will not be back!"

Review 7 for Trece

Overall Rating 5.0 out of 5 (Outstanding)
"I have not had a good meal like this in a long time. The portions were not big, but were not small either. The food was very aromatic and filling, I had the Chicken Nachos which had a black bean puree and cilantro pesto it seemed like. And then I also had the Vegetarian Chile Relleno...it was fabulous, one of the best I have had. The service was outstanding, and the ambiance of the restaurant was very relaxing. I will definitely be returning to this establishment very soon."

Review 8 for Trece

Overall Rating 2.0 out of 5 (Fair)
"The service was ok. The food was good, except the fish tacos. horrible. The drinks, were very tasty but I doubt they had a full ounce of alchohol in them? in fact I question if they had any alchohol in them? We were 6 and 3 people ordered the top shelf marguerita, all said, " is there any top shelf in this drink?" Then the 20% gratuity was added to the bill for us. I don't mind tipping but I like to tip on service and food, which on this visit did not rate 20 percent."

Review 10 for Trece

Overall Rating 2.0 out of 5 (Fair)
"How many waiters does it take to take a customer's drink orders at Trece? Five!

We had 5 waiters stop by the table and ask if we wanted guacamole-yet no one asked if we wanted something to drink. It took a herculean effort to get a waiter to slow down enough to actually take our drink order-& even then he acted like it was a burden.

Plus, on Customer Appreciation night (free food Mondays), we wanted to order extra appetizers on the regular menu-and the waiter reminded us rudely that we needed to pay for it.

No kidding! We were planning that anyway! Do they really think people are really that cheap?

Of course we wanted to pay for it-and happily boost their profit margin with booze. We would have had more drinks too-if we wer

Review 11 for Trece

Overall Rating 3.0 out of 5 (Good)
"We went to Trece for Sunday bruch. Nice location. The food was so so. Maybe a 5 on a scale of 10. The guacamole appetizer and pastries were the best part of the meal. I had the omelete of the day made with chorizo. Not enough flavor for a simple omelet. We also had the Bandera which has 3 enchiladas. The same problem here. The meal had little flavor to be a mexican dish. The wait staff was nice even though the food was not up to expectations."

Review 12 for Trece

Overall Rating 5.0 out of 5 (Outstanding)
"The view from our table was gorgeous--light-wrapped trees, an outdoor fireplace, and palm trees in the snow. Our waiter was particularly helpful in describing drinks and entrees. He even brought us a sample of the blueberry mojito. (It was delicious!) Entrees were creative and well-seasoned. We appreciate that the manager briefly checked with us to make sure we were being taken care of. We were."

"My husband and I celebrated his birthday by having dinner at Trece Jan. 30. We were very pleased with everything! The food was unique and in addition to the lovely presentation, it was very tasty. Michelle took excellent care of us with plenty of information about the menu and was always right on time throughout our meal. We've already recommended Trece to several friends and coworkers. The ambiance was wonderful and we look forward to coming back again! My hasband has already planned a work dinner for a large group next week and he's hoping Michelle will be there!"

"We started at the bar and had a great margarita to kick things off. The extensive tequila list was nice to choose from. I liked the seating in the main dining area as we had a table that backed up to a booth. The indoor patio may be better... Review 25 for Trece

Overall Rating 4.0 out of 5 (Very Good)
"My friend and I went on a fairly busy night, but we were impressed by our server Jennifer's ability to take care of us extremely well. Our water and drinks were constantly replenished, our food was promptly brought and taken away, and anything else we needed was handled well. We didn't feel rushed or hurried, despite there not being any tables left in the restaurant.

The food was quite good, and the portions were perfect. Some fine dining restaurants in Dallas think fine dining is code for "small plates," but not Trece! The atmosphere is fun and energetic, but not too over the top.

Be prepared to pay $4 for valet, parking in the neighborhood is difficult to find.

Overall Rating 4.0 out of 5 (Very Good)
"Actually a rather strange brunch experience because it was the Sunday after New Year's Day and we dined in the enclosed patio room, had a delicious meal, but it was us and one other couple in the entire restaurant. We had the lobster nacho, which was very good, and the vegetarian chile relleno, which was exceptional, perhaps the best individual dish we had in 3 days in Dallas. We also enjoyed a very nice Malbec and espresso. Service was pleasant and efficient. Hope business was just slack because of the date."

Review 28 for Trece

Overall Rating 4.0 out of 5 (Very Good)
"Our time at Trece was good. Our table was ready as reserved, service was a little too involved, but we may have been his only table. He was very attentative. This would have been great if our dinner conversation was a little more casual.

They guys at the valet were not very friendly with little sense of humor. I always hate valet arrangements that require pre-payment. I am coming back for my car as it is worth more than the $4 fee. When there is a fee and the service is poor, there usually is not a tip. Complimentary valet always gets a good tip.

"by seeing dinner menu, I found this place may be little costy as Mexican dining but we tried dinner on Monday by using holiday free diner invitation. Service was very good. profesional but friendly. Meals were served smoothly. I had green salad and fish tacos. They are good. Although we only paid for drinks and deserts, they gave us bill with price for meals we had just for confirming order. I still think meals are little costy but by considering the location, atmospher, service etc, I may want to come back for special occasion."

Review 32 for Trece

Overall Rating 2.0 out of 5 (Fair)
"This was our first and probably last trip to Trece. The food was interesting, but the menu was very limited and much more expensive than we anticipated. Our steak tasted good but was not well-trimmed. The chips are done in the 'over fried' fashion, and weren't popular with our party. The guacamole was excellent, the salsa okay. The tab for six of us was more than $300, which was a surprise; we split three entrees among us, with one pitcher of sangria and two margaritas - very pricey for that amount of food. The view was lovely on Christmas Eve - it was snowing and we enjoyed the view of the outdoor fireplace. I think Trece is a nice bar with some unusual bar food - not a restaurant, really."

"Decent service throughout dining experience, waitress was only somewhat attentive. The chips and salsa were brought out at the same time our appetizers arrived. The chips tasted stale and the salsa seemed somewhat runny. The enchiladas were an excellent start and the poblano sauce is a great accompaniment. The nachos came out burnt this time and did not offer the same great taste that I would normally expect. My budin azteca entree seemed extra oily and greasty. There seemed to be a ring of grease around the plate that I do not recall having seem when I previously ordered this meal. There was an over-abundance of chicken and it seemed to have made the tortillas soggy, so not a lot of flavor this time. Chicken enchiladas were disappointing."

"The food was great, and while the hostess looked a little unfriendly, the waiter was very helpful and nice. The bartender was a bit rude, but the drink he mixed was great. The music consisted of Christmas jingles, which was not what I had expected. Otherwise, nice place, would go again!"

"I really enjoyed dinner here. The ambiance was kind of trendy and upbeat but it was still quiet and comfortable. The enclosed patio makes you feel like you're dining outside. The food was unique and the quality was excellent. I would definitely recommend Trece if you're looking for something more exciting than traditional Tex-Mex."

"We waited an hour for our food to come out. We were expecting our appetizers but we received our entrees. They delivered the appetizers about 20 minutes later. The server said it was his first night so it was forgiveable. I have definitely received better service on other ocassions."

"Monday nights are amazing! A free two course meal, thats correct free, has eight selections to choose form. All the items are large portions and extremely good. The wine is a tad over priced but it is easily justifiable when your meal is free. RSVP for Monday night and bring friends!!!"
