"Michael's is super convenient to the Museum of Modern Art and shopping. The restaurant is filled with wonderful art by Jasper Johns and Frank Stella and the garden room abounds with flowering tree branches in all four corners. Waitstaff is efficient and friendly and you can linger or eat quickly and return to work or fun. Menu highlights fresh ingredients and the portions are normal, not oversized. A room filled with dealmakers and conversation seemed remarkably quiet and you can easily communicate without shouting. A super choice for a business lunch or comfortable visit with an old friend, Michael (the owner) will visit your table and chat and he is want to do. Highly recommend. Lunch for two was $50 with tip but no dessert or liquor."

"Wine Director Kasi Shelton was very knowledgable, friendly and helpful. She made the overall experience delightful. Food was very good and the ambiance was comfortable, not too "claustrophobic" (like many of the NYC restaurants). We would go back just for the Portuguese wines and the Korean Tacos."

"On purpose, knowing it would be calm and quiet, we booked for 8pm on Saturday night. Michael's is known for its weekday lunch scene, of course, but our experience on the weekend could not have been better: every staff person was attentive and gracious, but not overbearing. We were not rushed, even though we were the last to leave, and our meals and wine were superb. I'd never been to Michael's in New York for dinner...what a find!"

"I have a permanent table at this venerable hot spot every week for a reason. Everything on the menu is good. The wines are a perfect compliment to the meal. The service is family friendly without being intrusive and annoying. And the scene...well, you don't go to Michael's if you're shy and seek privacy. I love this place!"

"I feel Michael's is a midtown neighborhood secret. The staff are very accommodating and the menu is very well-priced. The decor was a bit alarming at first, but then I soon realized it was because it wasn't uber trendy and overly branded like many of the restaurants in NYC. The building is older so the restaurant feels dated when you walk in, but don't let that fool you. The staff is very personable and the menu has a little something for everyone. We told them it was my sister's birthday, and they even gave her a small bouquet of flowers to take home. I'm sure if I lived in the area, this would be a regular place for me and my family. Loved their Korean tacos and the mango cheesecake!"

"A hidden gem in the heart of Midtown Manhattan! One of my new faves, right in between great shopping and great theatre. The food is wonderful-"California Cuisine," prepared by a Korean chef. Raw items, salads, small plates, and then a la carte entrees. Everything we ordered was a hit! The service is attentive yet not overbearing or fussy. We had a lot of food, all of which was delivered in a timely and thoughtful style. The atmosphere is sophisticated, simple, and serene; quite different from most midtown spots. Run, don't walk, to Michael's NYC!"

"Michael's is my go to spot for a business lunch. The staff is super attentive without hovering, Michael is a genial host, the tables are set far enough apart so that you don't feel that neighboring diners will be listening to your conversation, the setting is airy and lovely, the prices are sensible, and the food is delicious, both the new small plates and the old standards. All in all Michael's is very conducive to entertaining important business contacts in great style and a pleasure to dine in. An added attraction for those who think it important, there is generally plenty of media star power in attendance."

Great mixology menu created by Ektoras. They take some time to arrive but worth the wait. Staff was attentive and friendly. I recommend a visit when you are in the area."

"I haven't been to Michael's for nearly a year and had read about their revamped menu. There are more choices and the menu is better priced. The one downside is that the portions are also downsized. I ordered a very good scallop main course and it consisted of 2 small scallops in a delicious vegetable/puree sauce. It was very good, but a 3d scallop would have made it better."

"Liked the new menu (small plates) very much but happy to see that some of the "old standbys" such as the cobb salad and great burger were kept. Was surprised with paper menu, however,it looked too fast food. Overall, food and service were great."

"A client in town staying in the neighborhood so we hit Michael's. Service, atmosphere, all good; we got there at 6 on a Mon. and were the only table but by 7:30 it was fairly full. The food is why I'll go back though. I had 3 perfect little delicately fried oysters with grapefruit; wish there had been 6 on the plate but they were delicious. I also had the branzino, a bit small and possibly cooked on the upper end of perfect, but the dish as a whole was terrific. We shared brussels sprouts (fantastic) and the gruyere mashed potatoes (very good), and my companions had soups, the little crabcakes and the pork chop, all proclaimed excellent (though for a double-cut chop, it wasn't very big). Very high quality food, classic place."

"We enjoyed our evening! Only complaint was waiter seemed to dismiss us because we ordered from Restaurant Week menu. When we asked him about one of the entrees, he said he couldn't tell us about those menu items because he wasn't familiar with them. Wow. That's pretty bad."

"I had read the reviews on Yelp about the age of the dinner crowd, but the fact that we were a table of five 20-something girls did not detract from the stellar service or the quality of our experience. We came for restaurant week and the food was incredible -- each of us practically licked our plates. Michael himself was also there and came by to say hello, which was an added bonus."

"Michael's shouldn't participate in Restaurant Week as it is clear they don't want you to order off the menu - they don't provide it unless requested. My appetizer (gnudi) was mushy and flavorless. Everything else we ordered was good. Rather surprised that they offer 1/2 glasses of wine; although that's not indicated on the menu. First time dining there for pleasure - had only been there for business or corporate events. Wouldn't return; wouldn't recommend it."

"The owner, Micheal, is a terrific host whether the restaurant is packed or is relatively empty as it was this cold morning the first week in February. The staff is well trained and very attentive without being intrusive. The breakfast menu has it all for the dieter or those looking for something special. I often go for both breakfast and lunch and am never disappointed."

"All five of us--from grandparents to parents to teenager--loved our restaurant week dinner with its innovative choices. From parsnip soup and salmon tartare to start to Korean fried chicken, shrimp with snow pea leaves and braised short ribs with cippolini onions and brussels sprouts, all were seasoned with flair. The tiny glazed doughnuts with cinnamon ice cream were dreamy.
We sized up the regular menu--with its varied choices of small dishes--and agreed we'd be glad to return any time--for breakfast, lunch or dinner.

"Michael's is my business lunch go-to spot. The tables are well-spaced, allowing private conversation and while lunchtime gets a bit noisy, conversations are still easy. Always star studded with media types, the staff, as well as Michael himself, are very gracious and welcoming to all. Special requests are promptly attended to. The back room, far from feeling like Siberia, offers a beautiful garden view and spot for peaceful conversation. The food is delicious and healthful (without getting aggressive about it). The new small plate menu items like kale salad are delicious. Bravo Michael."

"Michaels is a Business Lunch place. THey know how to be efficient when the primary reason people are there is to discuss business. Redesigned space is bright even in Winter; staff is efficient without being on top of you; food is good, but its the whole shebang why people come here, its less to dine, than to be treated professionally, no surprises."

"I went for dinner while visiting NY, and had the RW menu. The waiter suggested the Korean fried chicken, which was fabulous. As always, the staff are wonderful, esp. the wine steward, who offered excellent wine pairings. I always enjoy a visit."

"We were an assorted group of four, who decided to try Michael's during Winter 2013 restaurant week. Every one of us was delighted. The room has the low-key elegance of a fine hotel, with a spaciousness that's become unusual for city eateries (oh, the luxury of neither overhearing nor being overheard by the next table!). Top honors went to the superbly flavorful Korean fried chicken and the velvety, tangy potato gruyere puree. The short ribs and the ricotta gnudi were also excellent. Notice the diversity here? It's held together with an overall leitmotif of umami. Wines by the glass were surprisingly affordable. Desserts were not noteworthy, but with food this satisfying, you don't need dessert."
