"I believe you get a good value for your money at Shinto. This time we had a party of 6 celebrating 3 birthdays. For a Sunday early evening, this place was a bit empty to start off with and we felt a little isolated, but the crowd eventually picked up with lively chatter. Our waitress was very attentive and our chef Chris was right on the money being professional and re-cleaning the grill before starting which was appreciated given that there's always fried rice bits or something else flying around from other animated chefs. Our meals were cooked perfectly given that our steaks ranged from medium to well and the shrimps seared to perfection. Three complimentary birthday cookie / ice creams capped the evening well."

"I've been to a number of Hibatchi restaurants, this is the first for me with an open "cafeteria" atmosphere, not my preference. The food was very good, I chose the shrimp & steak. Certainly didn't walk away with room for more. The preparation for the dinner was well done with the typical Hibatchi routine. Prices for the dinners were in the average range. Drink prices were very high though, two cocktails here will set you back about $16, the atmosphere at the bar is not worth the price, may have been worth it if there was some sort of entertainment. The entire staff was very freindly from the minute we entered until calling it a night. I will not return or recommend Shinto unless the visit was through Groupon."

"The ambiance and decor promised a nice setting for a birthday celebration. We had a drink at the bar, pressured by front desk staff to move into the practically empty hibachi dining area. We were seated at a table with a family with a couple of young kids, no problem, but they had been kept waiting. We were advised to order our sushi immediately by the dad, he had been waiting a long time for his. We ordered wine, the server had no idea about the items on the list, She promised us the bartender would come over and help. He didn't, just sent her with a couple of tasters.
The chef took forever to bring our meals, not sure why since by now we were the only hibachi patrons. He struggled with the presentation but the food was very good."

"I tried calling to make reservations twice and their voicemail was full. Our server had to have been new, as she had to go and find out answers to our basic questions regarding the menu. Our chef began cooking our meal before our soup/salad came. I think there are other hibachi restaurants in the Naperville area that are definately nicer. We will not be coming back to Shinto."

"Had a great time at Shinto's our server Melissa is the best along with Chris the chef who has his own flair for cooking and doing tricks on the grill. This is the best value for your money in Naperville on a Tuesday night!!"

"Upon arrival the service was slow and the waiter didn't have a clue. Manager came by to offer apology and offer free drinks and appetizers but left it on the bill anyway. After over an hour wait the show started. We had Chris(asian guy) as our chef great job by him and the server Melissa who came in at the end save the day. I will continue to dine there just need to be prepared better for the Tuesday experiecne."

"Everything was good. The sushi was great. The only complaint was that the waiter clearly was rushing us so they Could close. They were closing at 9pm which is fine but they Should have refused to book a late RSVP."

"We've been to Shinto several times now. The food is always very good with ample portion sizes. The dining experience however drifts when they are significantly busy. Our table was seated in an order where the chef was delayed with other tables (understandable), but when he got to us he found that our waiter had not prepared the grill so he could start immediately causing another delay while the grill heated up."

"We had hibachi on a Tuesday night which is when they have specials. Our chef went through the motions very quickly, the typical jokes they tell and all, but he went fast and wasn't very enthusiastic. Compared to the first time I came here and had hibachi, this was terrible. I don't know if it was just because it was a discount night, but I'd have to say our chef was done with everything within 20-30 minutes and I'm used to this being an experience and not going so quickly."

"Excellent find since this was our first visit. The food, service, atmosphere was very good. Shinto has specials too which we like. The sushi bar was very good, and the bar has a full selection wines, beers, & spirits."

"Brought kids 5-10 for their 1st hibachi experience. Chef put on an excellent kid-friendly performance. The finicky one loved his food and they've talked about it non-stop. Thank you."

"I was impressed at all. I have been to restaurant similar to Shinto and at best I would give them average. The table are very small that your place is half on the the table the other have you have to hold to it. the food average at best."

"The staff went above and beyond to make our visit to Shinto a positive experience. We had originally dined on a Thursday evening, which was previously the night each week that they offered select 1/2 price bottles of wine. Even though they no longer have this special deal, the manager was still willing to honor it. Unfortunately, they were out of the wine that we chose, however, the owner came over to apologize and let us select any other bottle of wine on the menu at half price. The owner was friendly and helpful, and it appears that he really cares about his patrons. We ordered appetizers and sashimi dinners, and all of the food was fresh and presented in an artful way."

"I love going to a Hibachi grill, and this one certainly did not dissappoint. Our waiter was very friendly and helpful. This was a family outing, so we did choose an earlier time when the restaurant was less crowded, because I try to be courteous to other diners when bringing kids. Our group was able to have it's own table, so we were given lots of attention and the kids loved the interaction with the waiter and chef and we all really enjoyed our meals. A Groupon brought us there, but the great service and food will bring us back again."

"A group of 7 of us went to Shinto to celebrate a wedding engagement and ate at the Hibachi. Chef Chris really specialized it for the happy couple with shaping different foods into hearts. He put on a good show, kept our attention, and kept us ooing and aawing and laughing. The food was delicious. My steak was perfectly cooked. We also ordered sushi ...Mexican Roll and Filet Roll ... very fresh with wonderful flavors. Our server Dan did an excellent job at keeping us happy. We had a great time and will definitely go back."

"Despite the online reservation and Shinto staff calling me to confirm, we still weren't seated until 30mins after our scheduled reservation. It was a Saturday night, so I can appreciate the complexities of getting patrons in and out of any establishment, but waiting a half hour at the bar and then another 15mins at our table prior to service is unacceptable. When service did begin, our waiter made a more than admirable attempt to make up for our wait. The hibachi style preparation and overall food was mediocre at best. Overall, the experience was barely "fair", but I'm willing to give it a 2nd shot."

"What a great place for amazing Sushi and delicious drinks. My wife and I went for our first time, and were blown away at the great ambiance, the friendly staff, and the very reasonable prices for the great quality food you get. $5 for the desserts is a steal, and the drinks were made perfectly. We will definitely be attending Shinto again in the future"

"First, we had a reservation @ 6 pm but arrived @ 545. When we check-in in with the hostess she told us we would get seated closer to our reservation time. No prob, I understand you have to wait sometimes. But if you make reservations you make them for a reason. Now I am not an impatient person but It was me, my husband, my sister and my 3 kids (ages 6,4, &1). Of course we had to wait for about 45 minutes to actually get seated. When we eventually were seated i asked them for a highchair and they told me they didn’t have any more but as soon as one became available they would get it for me. I scanned the restaurant and it looked like they only had about 4 highchairs. So that was already bad. My sister had to go to the table next to u"

"It's way too expensive especially when you're taking out a family of four even though two of the four members are 13 and 10 years old only. They nickle and dime their customers, even for fried rice you have to pay $3.00 while overwhelming majority of other Habachi and Sushi restaurants include the price of the fried rice with the cost of the main entree. In addition, Shinto's prices are on the high end for just about everything on the menu. I would not recommend this restaurant to other people."

"As with most hibachi style experiences, it is the Chef that runs the show. The Chefs were awesome. Tables all over were rowdy, laughing and clapping. Ours was no different. Great with both my 15 year old and my 2 year old! He even got my 2 yr old to attempt catching a broccoli in her mouth."

"I was recently here on 1/26/13 and had a good experience but it was quite inconvenient. I purchased a GoogleOffer with intentions to use it that night but upon arriving at the restaurant and asking the front hostess if I would be able to use it, I received no answer. The waiter then had to inform me that they couldnt redeem it because it was a "special event" and the promotions werent being honored. When I bought the Offer, I specifically checked the blackout dates and even checked the website but there was nothing said about a special event that night. When sending out deals, itd be nice to inform customers of blackout dates beforehand so this doesnt happen. Very inconvenient."

"I realy wasn't that impressed. I thought I would be but wasn't. Being a first timer, They needed to explain what you need to do and make sure everyone gets a list of appatizers. I ordered the Salad to start and I odered the shrimp habatchi with fried rice. I have to say the shrimp were very good, but the salad kinda turned me off. It was a bowl of water and the dressing just piled on. It was not appatizing to me. We watched the rice being made, and I was expecting more flavor, it wasnt there. Even at 12 dollars notsure I would do it again. I brought my wife here because someone recommended it, but she wasnt impressed either. some of party arrived a little early, and the hostes didnt really want to seat and the place was bare."
