An ingredient-driven BYOB restaurant dedicated to serving seasonally available local products with a focused, but constantly evolving menu reflecting the best meats and produce from our region.
"Went for brunch on Mothers Day and the food was outstanding. Unique combinations with great seasonal veggies. The Lobster Frittata was outstanding. Took our 3 year old and the restaurant was very accommodating and there were plenty of items in the brunch menu that, while not intended for kids, were perfect for him."

"I am bummed to write this review as I really wanted to enjoy our meal. Some of our meal was really good - the appetizers and desserts were solid. Trout tartare, ramp ravioli, and duck papardelle were outstanding, but the rest was equally disappointing. The pork was sliced so thin that it belonged on a sandwich, scallops were inedible and duck, while flavorful was tough. One of our meals was sent back and we barely received an apology or anything on the bill to acknowledge the error. If they stick to more of what works on the appetizers or the rhubarb tart, they'd be better off - - and perhaps a consult to a local restaurateur on how to execute better service."

"The menu is sparse, but makes it easier to decide! As a group of 4 we were all pleased with our appetizers and entrees. We had duck and 2 different types of fish, all with generous portions. The halibut was fresh and tasty. I think the philosophy of less is more definitely applies here with regards to the menu, as you know what you get will be delicious and fresh. The atmosphere was relaxed and casual, the service was helpful without being harping."

"Another great BYO in Philly. The food is quite delicious and culinarily unique. Our server Oscar was excellent. I was hesitant to order the whole fish branzino and he took the time to carefully describe it to me. I'm glad he sold me on it because it was wonderful."

"The food was outstanding, and there certainly was enough of a selection for variety. Our waitress was exceptionally helpful and knowledgeable. Because everything is made to order, it does take a while to get the food. But worth the wait. The only reason service does not get five stars is the delay. The server was terrific. Bring a bottle of wine and a good conversationalist, and relax and enjoy the excellent food. Allow at least an hour and a half."

"I dined at Russet with a girlfriend before a concert on May 8th. The experience was memorable in all of the best ways - a wonderful, fresh farm-to-table menu, quiet and attentive wait staff, quiet ambiance for conversation, no distracting music, timely receipt of food items gave time for savoring!!! Thank you for opening this wonderful restaurant. I look forward to many future opportunities to eat at Russet!!"

"The service was good. The decorating had no theme. The menu was short and uninteresting, only four entrees and no meat. Lots of unknown vegetables were served to pad the plate."

"The meal I enjoyed at Russett had all the hallmarks of the wonderful food I used to enjoy at Fork-fresh, well made and presented, flavorful, ample and thoughtfully sourced. The cheerful, attitude free staff was a major factor in my enjoyment. Thank you Russett for some of the best food in Philadelphia today."

"We dined with friends who had eaten there in earlier days and was not pleased. We knew they lived across the street from Russets and convinced them to try it again. They and we were extremely surprised with our experience. My friend and I had Halibut and it was probably the best piece of fish I have eaten in some time. The service was attentive but not overly so. The bread was especially good. Our friend was celebrating her birthday and a candle was put on our jointly shared dessert! We are going again."

"We tried Russet after being given a recommendation from Open Table for a restaurant near The Academy of Music and we have been raving ever since. We liked everything about this restaurant. The food is simply outstanding. The limited menu is no problem. In fact it is a plus, plus because everything is fresh and fabulous. Our servers were pleasant and eager to please. Even to the point of asking the chef how he made the sauce for my perfectly baked halibut. We will definitely return. the sooner the better. Teri Smith"

"Another nice Philly BYOB. The food was very strong, but not amazing. However, it's very seasonal (changing virtually daily), which is generally a plus to me, and leads to natural variation in quality; could be better or worse on a second visit... but definitely worth one."

"I am a relatively new resident of PA and have only been to Philly a few times. But for dining in Philadelphia, I need look no further than Russet. Beautifully designed website. Warm welcome. High ceilings and arches dating back to the 1800's. Staff, each and every one of them, without a fault. Friendliness abounds. Exemplary dining experience. A visit with the chef afterwards a high point as well. We will be back on our next visit to Philly...and the next..."

"Two ate early in a Saturday before a concert. When we arrived there was only two other people in the room. This is a BYOB restaurant, rare at this level in PHL. Menu was short but interesting. For appetizers, we had ramps ravioli, a fantastic dish, and local prosciutto, good but not as good and the best Italian or Spanish dry cured ham. For dinner we had halibut, very good and perfectly cooked and a Tuscan Style Pork Sausage, with polenta just delicious and not over cooked, as is frequently the case. Dessert and coffee were a chocolate cake and cheese. Coffee was good. Service was informal, attentive, prompt. We were given separate glasses for our red and white at no charge! Not cheap but we will be back."

"i find Russet to be very welcoming and comfortable with superior service and food. at brunch we had a blueberry pancake prepared uniquely and without syrup, as well as, diver scallops on toast points with broccoli rabe. Both were interesting, different and good. Also, the coffee is good and robust."

"This restaurant was awesome! We called ahead to see what fish was on the menu as we do not eat many fish and the other entrees were limiting to our tastes. They had branzino and were happy to hold it for us! When we arrived, branzino was no longer on the menu. We were a bit worried and asked about it and said they saved it for us and took it off the menu for the public since they sold out! This was extra nice and impressed us! The food was excellent. branzino was best I have had in city, and 3 pasta dishes were excellent as well. Would definitely come back!"

"Perfectly prepared dishes and very nice servers. They didn't bat an eye when I accidentally set a napkin on fire; even threw out a few cool one liners. Go for a romantic walk after dinner in one of the most exciting Philly neighborhoods. One of our new favorite spots."

"This is a tale of two dinners. I loved mine; my husband was extremely disappointed. The service was top notch: each server was pleasant, helpful and knowledgeable, and eager to make our evening perfect. The small selection of appetizers and entrees were each well chosen and seemed well prepared. My husband ordered the duck as an entree; it was promised to be very tender and delicious. It was tough and cold (very rare, so much so that it wasn't even warm). The servers quickly replaced it with a menu, and he ordered a more acceptable dish, but by the time it arrived, I had eaten every morsel of my delicious lamb. I loved this restaurant, even though it was so noisy! But my husband refuses to return. Go and see for yourself. Worth a t"

"The food at Russet was amazing! We loved everything we ordered. The desert was average but overall a great meal, EXCEPT the service. The first waiter we had hardly said two words and was dismissive, never brought us bread and couldn't be bothered with us at all. Randomly we got another waitress 1/2 way through who was better but it was unclear when/how/why she was suddenly our server. When we go to leave nobody is there, so we just leave and the tip reflected it. Love to go back for the food - HATE the service. Make it better!"

"Terrific location for Verizon Hall. So why wouldn't you make the food equally appealing. I ordered the lamb with pollenta. No taste, no seasoning, gross. Polenta was of poor consistancy. My husband ordered the scallops. No seasoning. The couple at the table next to us were grim. Two order of scallops, arrived cold with no taste whatsoever. Our desserts were called, "Budino." Budino in Italian is a custard. This was marinated plums, chocolate cake and whipped cream. It was tasty but...........It was not a Budino.
Don't give something a fancy name just to entice. You belittle the intelligence of your diners. Would not go back."

"Our first time at Russet was excellent, and then we had a bad experience the second time last year. There was a speical farm table menu exclusively served that night without any pre-warning on OPEN TABLE. The owner promised to send us and the other couple a $50 gift certificate and never did despite repeated follow ups. Saturday hight we decided to return and give the restaurant anhother chance. The prices are too high for the quality received. We began with a beet salad for $9 that was unattractively presented. My wife had the tile fish entree which she liked, but tile fish is one of the cheapest fish on the makret and $29 seemed high. I had aged duck breast for $32 that was chewy."

"Dined late on a chilly Wednesday. Only a handful of people in the restaurant. Surprised at how few entrees were offered and how exotic some of the offerings were. What we had was fine, the lamb ragu over papperdelle, the wild mushroom ravioli. We shared the sea scallops (only four) as a main course. Prices seemed high, but the ingredients were fresh and good quality."

"Lovely, cozy redone row house with a larger group room, apparently, in the back. While the prices are a step up from most good restaurants, the ingredients and quality of the offerings is outstanding. The menu changes daily, depending on market availability, which is also good. I give Russet high grades."

"Wonder changing w/the seasons menu. Limited menu but should satisfy all tastes/needs. Like the fact that menu is updated daily. Crisp service that is attentive without hovering. Overall outstanding service that is some of the best in the city. Think that appetizers and entrees may be a couple dollars overpriced. Nice atmosphere, rather upscale."

"Sustainable and unusual foods. I had the liver which was amazing. I wouldn't recommend the pork belly starter however as it was 99% fat. While not necessarily a bad thing, it just wasn't particularly flavorful. The chicken main course was fabulous. BYOB and prepare for a real feast. The portions are nice and big too."
