The Grand Cafe is a charming, romantic neighborhood café, offering classic American and Continental bistro fare, situated in a beautiful space that once held an old world European bakery. The kitchen utilizes the best local and seasonal product to craft such dishes as Duck Confit, Braised Short Ribs,Daily Fish Specials, Home-cured duck proscuitto, hand-rolled gnocchi, pasta, crackers and more. The pantry-to-table approach imbues brunch, lunch, dinner and Pivate Dining menus with unparalleled freshness, and has garnered critical acclaim – Mpls St. Paul Magazine's Dara Moskowitz writes "The best Unknown Restaurant in Town: Great and Simple Coexist at Minneapolis's Grand Cafe", and Andrew Zimmern calls Grand Café “one of the most romantic spots around". Grand Cafe is located in South Minneapolis, 5 minutes from downtown & uptown, & 15 min from airport.
"This delightful little restaurant in the South side of Minneapolis is a real treat. We started with their melange which was roasted peppers, goat cheese, artichoke hearts, salami variant, and serrano ham. Wonderful contrast of tastes and textures. Tomato bisque had a little fire in it, but not unpleasant. Their rabbit may the best I've ever had, including Europe. The chef was walking around and gave us a little update on how the rabbit was prepared, The owner/manager was also in attendance and checked with all of the tables. Service was impeccable. Wine list was balanced without having an unmanageable list---nice selections. Definitely worth anyone's time fora good meal."

"The vegetarian pasta was excellent. The pork osso bucco was more like a casssolet but tasted very good. Desserts were a disappointment. Service was very friendly and efficient. Worthwhile to visit."

"I took my wife, 1 year-old, and in-laws out for Mother's Day brunch and couldn't have been happier. The service was just incredible, especially the busy day they were having. The wait staff are incredibly nice, knowledgeable, and professional. I love the old hardwood floors, tall tin ceilings, and retro bar. The food was unique and excellent. I would recommend this place to anyone and everyone. I absolutely loved it and so did my family!"

"I never would have picked this place out if I was just driving by but it's a nice little neighborhood gem. The menu is very limited but the food was fine. My friend enjoyed her grilled cheese and my burger was okay. A little disappointing considering it's supposed to be grass-fed beef and should've had more flavor. Service was fine for a non-busy Thursday lunch but nothing special. Only true quirk is that they don't split checks, which seems a little odd, so make sure you can do the math."

"We went on "Date Night" Tuesday, when they offer a fixed price menu for two that includes a small appetizer, delicious salad, choice of 3 entrees, and a bottle of wine for $50! That's $25 per person including the wine. Food was creative, beautifully served, and delicious, and service outstanding. We're going back."

"We live in this area...and, we are always trying new places. But, this is like our home. We feel at ease...can hear our conversations. Food and service are always just right. Our kids (as kids) and nephews grew up coming here...and, they now return here with their families and friends. This is the kind of place that we hope remains after we have gone.

"The food was very delicious--save room for dessert because their affogato is to die for. The service was also impeccable. The waitstaff was very attentive and timely; everyone helped each other out and I got the impression all the waiters considered every table "their" table. The Grand Cafe has a very cozy, romantic ambience, so it would be a great place to impress that special someone."

"Simply put, we enjoyed the finest meal we've had in Minneapolis in years. The hand-cut Agnolotti with house made ricotta was something far beyond delicious. Ditto for the Halibut with peas. We are coming back...this week!"

"We chose Grand Cafe because the dinner menu we saw online offered a hamburger as one choice. We wanted to have a variety of choices and price points because we invited another couple to join us whose taste in restaurants we weren't familiar with. When we arrived we were told the hamburger was no longer a choice. We asked our waiter to split the check, which he did not. The pasta we ordered was a bit skimpy in size. Our waiter virtually disappeared after he took our order. We were not impressed. When we came to Grand Cafe shortly after it opened several years ago we had a much better experience."

"This was my first time to Grand Cafe. The food was good but not great. The same with the service. I think we had three different servers and no one person seemed to be "responsible" for us so there were some lapses in attentiveness. Not horrible, but noticeable. But the ambiance was terrific and cozy on a cold April night. Worth a visit."

"It was odd we went for a good evening. It started good with the waiter working hard... then he seemed to forget about us. It was like he disappear. We would think about going again but they don't seem to be able to handle a full restaurant."

"easily one of my favorite restaurants in the TC. The Prix Fix meal on Tuesday night the best food and the best bargain in town. The ciappino cannot be matched. I love Chef Jim. I love bringing friends to this restaurant."

"Our group of 4 really got lucky by visiting here on a Tuesday night. What a deal! Three courses plus a bottle of wine for $50 per couple! The courses were appetizers, salads, and main dishes, each stunning. The appetizers came 4 to a plate so easy to share, 2 beef carpaccios and 2 sardine roll ups, all with really neat sauces and flavors. The salads were perfectly dressed greens with fennel pollen for a kick. Two mains were offered, braised shortribs and cioppino. The cioppino was perfect, with the different shellfish and fish cooked for varying lengths of time so that everything came out cooked to perfection. The shortribs were fall-apart tender. The wine was a light, flavorful German pinot noir. Service was thoughtful. Ambiance is plain."

"This is a favorite of mine. Unfortunately, my dinner guests had a complaint... Still love the food, but it's too loud for comfortable group conversation. They should turn down the music and stop tossing flatware."

"On the recommendation of the waiter, we had the special daily flatbread which was spicy, light and very flavorful. The Cassoulet with duck confit was done just right - Yum! My husband had the Cioppino and it was filled with goodness (shrimp, mussels, scallops, oh my!). Excellent food and a great experience."

"Oh My God was the food delicious! We had flat bread that was amazing, I had the hash which was to die for. We shared a dessert that was a caramel budino that was a great way to cap off lunch. I would definitely recommended it to friends!"

"I took a friend to the Grand Cafe for his first experience and the first time i have been there since the new chef took over. We started with the charcuterie which was made all in house. Our favorites were the lomo and headcheese. We then had a flatbread with pesto, salami, and house pickled peppers. We then had the hand cut fettuccine with duck prosciutto and the.pasta was beautifully rolled. For entrees we shared a pork tenderloin with melt in your mouth pork belly and a tasty kumquat marmalade, and the bison ny strip barley risotto, foie gras, pickled ramp, and truffles. For dessert we had a budino which is a must, and cute house made truffle. The server was very informative and recommend the perfect wines. It was a grand experience!"

"My husband and I love treating ourselves to dinner at the Grand Cafe. We enjoy the intimate setting and attention that the chef and staff give to their guests. The food is consistently good. Wonderful to go out and enjoy a meal you would not be able to make at home (easily)."

"I made my second visit to Grand Cafe this weekend, and I am sad to say it was disappointing. I love the ambiance and the service is great, but my dinner and the entree choices of 2 of my 3 dining companions was unexceptional at best. My beef tenderloin - one of the most expensive entrees on the menu - was tough, tasteless and a tiny portion to boot. The size did not matter as I hardly ate more than a bite. The short rib ordered by my daughter and my husband was also chewy - hardly could be described as falling off the bone. A knife was most definitely required. My first visit was far better, although even then, we had hoped for far more from this darling neighborhood restaurant. Probably will not return."
