"Per Diem is defintely a favorite of mine and reliable any time. The ideas for their food are always fresh and scrumptious, especially the Per Diem Salad or their Dungeness Crab Melt Sandwich. Their staff is top notch. In addition to my spending time there, I send many people for lunch, dinner and have had multiple events upstairs. Everything was impeccable."

"One major problem with Per Diem is that there is only one person working the front desk. Because most of the tables are upstairs that person has to check people in, then escort them upstairs, leaving reception open. The process takes forever and long lines develop. Its really very annoying. the service is otherwise very good."

"This was my 2nd time at Per Diem and the 2nd time I was happy. The food, service, and ambience were all very good. The only detractor was a server whose first language was not English. He brought a salad that my dining partner and I were to share, but he did not bring serving utensils. He was a bit confused, but finally came through.
The green tomato salad is outstanding and Mary''s chicken is good. My dining partner had a pasta dish with shrimp and other goodies which she declared quite excellent.
We also liked that our martinis came with little appetizers of a black olive compote on crusty bread. We did, however, miss the olives in our drinks."

"My last three times at Per Diem, I have had reservations and it took a minimum of 20 minutes to be seated while my party milled around at the front door. This time, however we were seated immediately for my 12:30 Friday lunch reservation. FANTASTIC improvement in management of the tables which had been lacking before. Same host, but doing much better job.
The food is consistent, fresh and well crafted, but the limited menu needs some change outs, additions or more specials."

"Very good lunch spot in FiDi. Busy place so make reservations early. Crab sandwich very tasty and filling with accompanying salad. Bucatini w/ ragu tasted like it took hours for sauce. Portions are good, prices reasonable and ambiance interesting with dark wood interiors. Only knock was took longer than expected for our entrees (later tables received their's b/4 ours). Nice surprise considering its plain exterior retail appearance."

"We were seated upstairs for lunch, which to me is a much less attractive space. The hostess attempted to seat us next to the service door, even though there were many empty and better tables. She granted my request for a different table politely and with a smile.
Our meals were uninspired. We came away not unhappy, but the whole experience left us wondering if we would ever return. I wouldn't recommend this place for lunch."

"Per Diem was a great little spot for me to take my mother when she came into the city to visit me at work. Nice ambiance, interesting decor, with a business yet fun feel to the lunch hour.The host was very friendly and welcomed us warmly upon arriving 10 min early for our reservation. Unfortunately, the waitress was extremely aloof and it was very distracting. She happened to take the wine menu away without asking if we wanted a beverage, eventually took our order and the food came quickly. The food was delicious although our order was incorrect, but I was not willing to take the time to change it. The crab melt and crab louie salad were quite tasty and the iced tea was fresh and unsweetened. I will be back to try out dinner and happy hour."

"I was looking forward to meeting a friend here for lunch on a Wednesday during work. When we walked in it was very beautiful and well decorated, I thought it had a very nice ambiance. Unfortunately, from the very beginning, the service began to slide. My main problem was that they were neither attentive nor knowledgeable about the menu. We both ordered salads and it took far longer than expected, the entire lunch ended up being 1 hr 40 minutes, without much lag time on deciding what to order. I had not factored a 2 hour lunch into my day and being in the financial district I imagine a lot of other working professionals don't either. The food, when it did arrive, was nothing memorable."

"There's been a change in chefs and the food is immeasurably better. Service is quick, unobtrusive and appreciated. My friend and I had salmon well done, which is always like playing the slots; one never knows what will happen because most chefs wants to serve it his/her way. It came the way we ordered it, not as if we ordered sushi! The burrata appetitizer was savory, sweet, salty and crunchy with bettered crostini. My lunch partner almost speared me to get to the last bite. Dessert was chocolate enough to satisfy any chocoholic but with enough vanilla to allow others to enjoy a bite. Although I use it for business lunches, I was made to feel at home with great service and and excellent food. What a great lunch!"

"mary's chicken was outstanding, moist and juicy. Mussels were divine. Potatoe pizza was unusual and delish. cesar chicken salad - lovey fresh greens but the chicken was thin and bit dry. refreshing arnold palmer brought separately to the table then poured and mixed at the table. had to ask for bread to sop up the mussel broth. Overall - excellent, will definitely return."

"Unless you spend a fortune, the wine list was pretty bad - including the wine originally suggested by the sommelier, which we rejected. Service was very slow and not attentive. Table did not have basic salt & pepper, nor were those offered when salads arrived - and the staff wasn't around for us to request them. Several of our party of 6 thought the food was okay, but several of us were extremely disappointed. The beet salad had an oily, flavorless dressing and soggy crostinis. This same group ate there early in the week back in June 2012 and had a much better experience. Guess things have gone downhill."
