Local Roots - A Farm to Table Restaurant
Located in Roanoke's Historic Grandin District, Local Roots Restaurant celebrates the absolute best of the region, from locally-farmed vegetables and meat to the handcrafted dining room tables produced by area artisans.
Our roots are deeply embedded in the lush farmlands of Southwest Virginia. They are nourished by modern-day farmers who employ age-old techniques, hard-working heroes who nurture not only the people, but the land as well. We've gotten to know these local farmers and are better for it. They help us keep time with the rhythms of the seasons. Sun-ripened tomatoes in the summer, hearty root vegetables in the winter - we serve what is fresh and natural at the peak of its flavor.
Our roots are fed by a philosophy we call S.O.L.E.: Sustainable, Organic, Local, Ethical. It's a principle that guides us as we decide from whom to source our meats and vegetables. It also informs our beverage program.

"Very good restaurant focusing on locally sourced ingredients. Shitake rissoto was excellent. Mackerel a bit overcooked. Service very helpful, but orders, including dessert, took a long time to come out of the kitchen."

"We had the 7 course chef's tasting menu with paired wine - had a TREMENDOUS time, three hour dinner and just the most fabulous flavors/textures and all the dishes were just beautiful. We explained we wanted to just have fun with food, open to trying anything and one course was served as a hot rock (350 deg) on a bed of rock salt and herbs (which created a wonderful scent as they got hot) and raw fish we were able to cook ourselves on the rock. Just fun, flavorful and amazing. Couldn't recommend a restaurant more highly.
The chef clearly has as much fun as his customers with this and he is a regional treasure."

"I live in San Diego, CA and I've not found a restaurant here that I think is as good as Local Roots. Incredible flavors, creative and lovely preparations... I always want to lick the plate. I had Sunday dinner there this visit and they offered a more family style dinner menu. I had a spicy bison chili that was out of this world, just melt in your mouth and the spices... yum. I was told there was a bit of dark chocolate and ancho chilies. Whatever the seasoning was, it was delish. I'll be back to this restaurant every trip and I never have eaten the same thing twice."

"My husband and I had dinner at Local Roots for my birthday. I had never had the opportunity to enjoy a chef's tasting menu and noticed that they offered one... so we tried their 7 course offering. Honestly, it was exquisite. Each item was beautifully prepared, amazingly flavorful and the variety - well, we had an amazing two and half hours of exploring tastes and textures and talking and... it was just lovely. I had the wine pairing with my meal, my husband did not. Truly enjoyed their offerings, I am not a connoisseur so the explanations were enjoyed and appreciated. The wait staff is quite knowledgeable and professional. We live in San Diego and I am hard pressed to name a restaurant here that I think is as good as Local Roots."
