Sparks Steak House was opened in 1966 by Michael and Pasquale Cetta, hence the logo 'Cetta Brothers Steak Masters'. The restaurant is still a family owned and operated business and is located in midtown Manhattan, a five minute walk from Grand Central Station and The United Nations.
The restaurant is well known for excellent steaks, seafood, fresh vegetables and satisfying salads.
And of course, the huge wine list.
"Quintessential NY steak house. Portions were industrial size which, to me, is a turn off but for true carnivors, this is the real deal. Service and ambiance were excellent ."

"There are too many options with better good and substantially better service. Pass this one by. Service was unacceptable. The place was at best 2/3s full. Asked for an additional drink only once. Waited 18 minutes to be asked about dessert coffee. Waited 16 minutes for check."

"I try to go to Sparks on every trip to NYC. This meal was no exception. It was wonderful as usual. I've tried many steak restaurants in NYC and this one is the BEST! I will definitely be back and I hope it's soon!"

"This is one of my favorite steakhouses in nyc because of quality of food and service. The steak has been outstanding although they don't offer porterhouse."

"The crab meat and scallop for appetizer was very good, the steak on the other hand was over cooked, was disappointed with the steak, my husband on the other hand enjoyed it. The dessert were ok, we had cheese cake and mixed berry ramanoff , overall the food was ok, not sure if we would go back this there are so many steak house in the city, where we have had much better steaks, the service on the other hand was excellent."

"i am a regular at sparks and have always loved it, probably my favorite steakhouse in the city. this particular time, i had a bad experience, ordered the filet medium, and it came out way under "rare". thought about sending back, but, im always hesitant to do that for fear of handling. steak was so undercooked it was blood red and ice cold inside."

"Food was very average, not even in top 10 steaks houses in NYC IMHO. Service was spotty, order was not taken appropriately and one filet was not cooked to order. Decor could use some work as the place looks exactly like it was 45 years ago. At least sever were not as stuffy as thy could be in these type of places. Menu selection was inadequate for a top steak house. No ribeye, no waygu or equivalent, tough choice if you don't want strip or filet."

"If you love traditional steakhouses with some history, Sparks is it. The servers are sharply dressed and mindful and the food is plentiful. Parking is also available right across the street."

"If you're look for an 'okay' steak to pair with FANTASTICALLY priced wines, this is definitely the place to go.
I'm touring all NYC steak houses with hopes to find my top 3. Sparks doesn't even come close to top 10. It took 20 minutes for us to even get a food/wine menu. There were NO verbal additions & no variety in cuts of meat. AND THERE WAS NOT 1 STEAK WITH THE BONE-IN!! I cannot comprehend that. The rest of the items on the menu were bland/unoriginal. Their creamed spinach was, just, not good. The Sirloin/filet are good. They did well there. But, their wine list was most impressive-prices were AMAZING: best in any steak house yet.
That's my motivation to go again: the Sirloin and very well-priced wine."
