"This was a first time experience for us and another couple. We love to try different kinds of food and dining experiences. This was an absolute gem! Everything was delicious as well as unique. The flavor combinations are genius. The food presentation is a work of art.Our friends and we were still raving about our dinner hours later and can't wait to get back and try other dishes."

"Mayas' "Nuevo Latino" cuisine is eclectic and delicious. The location on Magazine Street means it may be easier to get a reservation than places in the Quarter during festivals. I had a Brazilian dish that was fabulous -- since we ordered appetizers, I took half my entree home and had a 2nd meal. The salads are large. Relatively small so it feels intimate, but the high ceilings keep it from feeling cramped. Only complaint is they were out of the duck taquitos my husband was drooling over."

"In New Orleans, a town where hundreds of restaurants sport nearly the identical menu, Mayas' inventive, Latin-influenced cuisine is welcome relief. Flavors are assertive and delicious, dishes are carefully prepared and imaginatively presented. The only gaffes were service/ kitchen-related. Our charming server promptly took our cocktail order, but was slow to deliver them, appetizers arriving in advance of some of the drinks. Similarly, she served some entrees well before others, leading to that awkward "Don't wait for me" moment. Once served though, all were delighted, and eagerly shared and tasted around the table.
Those quibbles aside, Mayas' funky-chic decor and imaginative cuisine will delight you. We'll definitely return."

"Having recently moved back to New Orleans via sometime spent in Tampa, Florida following Katrina, we have missed the Cuban and Latin American fare. We were pleasantly surprised by Maya's menu. The guacamole and the seafood tostones were delicious. The Ropa Vieja and Lechon Pork were both well seasoned and tender. The Pinchon skewers were out of sight! They happened to be out of Cabernet that evening, but the Chardonnay Sangria was so good that my wife now prefers white sangria. The service is much better than we are used to in Tampa and the food came out in a timely manner. The bartender was great and the waitstaff very good with our kids. I can't wait to return so I can try the Chilean seabass and a few of their desserts next time."

"You will not be disappointed. The food is out of this world. You can't go wrong with anything on the menu. For those who usually skip dessert, try splurging on the tres leches cake - it will change your life.
Service is good. The bar services is slow, but worth the wait - all cocktails are hand made with love and taste like it. But go ahead and order your second round of cocktails as soon as you receive your first one - by the time you're ready for the next drink, it should be ready ..."

"We got sat at a horrible high top table in the front so we had people who were waiting to be seating crowding our table for the entire meal-not pleasant, especially when combined with how hot it was in the restaurant. We have had good service at Maya's in the past, but they were really off their game this weekend-taking more than 25 minutes to deliver a cocktail on one occasion. The food was great, especially the appetizer that's a mango, avocado, and shrimp stacker."

"Have been to Mayas twice and both times got the Seafood Moqueca. It is their signature dish and it is superb. The fish, usually mahi mahi, and scallops and the shrimp are so fresh and tasty. I wouldn't be able to choose to just have one of them so it's definitely worth the $3 extra to have the mixed seafood option. My boyfriend had a chicken dish which had some spinach in it - also delicious. Service was very good. Was a little noisy from a group at the back when we arrived, but after they left, we could enjoy our dinner."

"Well being not your typical "I need a po-boy" type, I desperately needed to switch it up given that I would be in NOLA for about 2 more weekends.
While parking was not all that nice, it was super cool to walk into the awesome aromas that floated through door as we passed through. Even though I perused the menu prior to my arrival online it was super hard to figure out what we wanted to eat.
To add, $5 magaritas, mojitos, and sangria...can't be beat.
I ordered the Tropical fish and my SO ordered the Ropa vieja! While both were delectable and were delivered HOT to the table, I wished that they both had a little more kick in terms of spice. Service was excellent and expeditious.

"Read lots of reviews (mostly positive), so thought this would be a good place for the wife and I to try for Valentine's day 2013. Wife felt overdressed a bit, but the place is eclectic, so I thought she fit right in. Ordered drinks (sangria and mojito), appetizers (guac & empinada), salad and entree. Food and Service was great up until server brought out our entrees. My wife's was a special that was a salad/entree. My salad was evidently forgotten and my entree was wrong. I informed the server, got the correct entree while my wife worked on hers with only complaint -the salad was over-dressed and too sweet, but enjoyed the scallops. I (eventually) had the coconut chicken curry, which was what I expected it to be. Server was very apologetic."
